| A Majestic Sunset |

D: Good morning, Vicki.
V: Good morning, Don.
D: This morning’s Power for Today reading is very colorful.
V: Yes. The author talks about the “resplendent” (or shining and bright) beauty of a sunset.
D: I love sunsets. Sunsets are pictures painted by God in “pastel hues” (or soft colors).
V: The author took a photograph of one of God’s sunsets with a “silhouette of thistles in the foreground.” What does that mean?
D: Well, a “foreground” is the front part of a picture, and a “silhouette” means an outline. A “thistle,” of course, is another word for a plant with stickers on it.
V: It must be a great photograph. I wish I could see it.
D: It is amazing how God’s “artistry” (or skill as an artist) can create wonderful scenes, which, as the author says, “remain engraved in our minds forever.” Does that make sense?
V: Sure. “To engrave” something means to carve something. So God’s pictures stay in our minds forever.
D: That’s true. A person’s life can also be a creation of God.
V: The author says that the Bible gives us a “snapshot” (or photograph) of the life of David.
D: Well, it is not a literal picture taken by a camera, but the Bible does give us a great image of David’s life.
V: The author even says that David’s life is “vivid” (or lifelike) in our minds.
D: God can create wonderful sunsets and shape the lives of people, helping each of us to “radiate an aura” (or shine a beautiful glow) of God’s love.
V: Hey! Let’s look for God’s pictures today. And have a good one.

단: 잘 잤어요, 여보.
비키: 안녕히 주무셨어요?
단: 오늘 본문은 대단히 화려하네요.
비키: 그래요. 작가는 일몰의 눈부신 아름다움에 대한 이야기를 하고 있어요.
단: 나도 일몰광경을 좋아해요. 일몰은 하나님께서 연한 색조로 그린 그림이라고 할 수 있지요.
비키: 작가는 전면에 엉겅퀴의 윤곽이 비치는 일몰사진을 찍었다고 했어요. 이것이 무슨 뜻이지요?
단: 그러니까 “foreground”는 그림의 앞부분을 말하는 것이고, “silhouette”은 윤곽을 나타내는 것이에요. 그리고 “thistle"은 가시가 있는 엉겅퀴를 말하는 것이지요.
비키: 멋있는 사진임에 틀림없겠네요. 그 사진을 한 번 봤으면 좋겠어요.
단: 작가가 말했듯이 우리의 마음속에 새겨져 지워지지 않는 하나님의 솜씨로 만들어낸 아름다운 광경은 놀라울 뿐이에요. 이 말이 이해가 되나요?
비키: 물론이지요. 어떤 것을 새긴다는 것은 조각한다는 것과 같은 말이지요. 그러니까 하나님께서 그린 그림은 영원히 우리의 마음속에 남는다는 것이에요.
단: 맞았어요. 사람의 인생도 하나님께서 만드신 것 중 하나에요.
비키: 성경은 다윗의 삶이 어떠했는지를 우리에게 보여 준다고 해요.
단: 여기서 사진이라고 표현한 것은 글자대로의 사진을 말하는 것이 아니고 성경이 다윗의 삶에 대한 훌륭한 연상을 알게 한다는 것이지요.
비키: 작가는 다윗의 삶이 우리의 마음에 생생하게 나타내 진다고 하지요.
단: 하나님께서는 우리가 하나님의 사랑을 나타낼 수 있도록 도우시면서 사람의 삶도 일몰의 광경도 만들어 내시지요.
비키: 여보, 오늘 하나님의 그림을 기대해 봅시다. 좋은 하루 되세요.
