| The Anguish of Anger |
|
V: I think it is difficult for some people to control their ¡°fits of anger¡± (those times when their anger makes them lose control).
D: You¡¯re right. This morning¡¯s Power for Today author talks about that, and says that people who are ¡°habitual offenders¡± hurt others and hurt themselves.
V: An ¡°habitual offender¡± is a person who has made an action a regular part of his or her life.
D: The author uses some terrific examples of a store manager and a ¡°rookie¡± (or new) baseball player.
V: Yes. Both examples are funny. The manager walks through the ¡°packing room,¡± the area where things are ¡°packed¡± (or put into boxes), and sees someone ¡°lounging¡± on a ¡°crate¡± (a big wooden box).
D: A person who ¡°lounges¡± is relaxing and doing nothing.
V: Right. So the manager yells at the man, gives him a week¡¯s pay, and tells him to get out.
D: The funny thing here is that the young man did not even work at that store.
V: And then there is the baseball umpire who ¡°addressed¡± (or spoke to) the rookie who was protesting a ¡°called strike.¡± Remind me about this rule in baseball.
D: You know, a normal ¡°strike¡± is when the baseball player swings at the ball and misses. It can also be ¡°called¡± a strike when the ball is thrown in the right area and the man does not swing.
V: I remember that now. Well, the answer for ¡°habitual offenders¡± and for all of us is to ask the Lord to help us.
D: Exactly. Only with a power greater than ourselves can we ¡°overcome such tendencies,¡± which means to have victory in these things that we ¡°tend to do¡± (or find ourselves doing).
V: Let¡¯s us God¡¯s power in our lives today. And by the way, have a good one.
D: You too. |
