| The Better Way |

| “Wherefore putting away lying, speak every man truth with his neighbor: for we are members one of another.” ( Ephesians 4:25 , KJV ) |

What a wonderful recipe for peace of mind! Put simply, our text says: tell the truth to everyone; reconcile any anger before you pillow your head; stand up to temptation; don’t take anything that isn’t yours; do an honest day’s work; and share what you have with those who are in need.
There was once a whole family which was notorious for lying. They lied even when the truth would have benefited them more than the lie. As a result, they were miserable. They complained that you couldn’t believe a word the other one said, yet each individual was blind to his own lying tongue.
On the other hand, I know a lady who always tells the truth, no matter if that truth may be painful. She offsets the pain with tact and kindness, being ever humble and gentle. She is a peacemaker and generous with her time and her love, as well as her earthly possessions. Though her life is not trouble free, it is a joyous one, lived with devotion and graciousness.
The next time you are tempted to shrink from the truth, or to hold a grudge, or to be selfish, I hope you will think of my friend, Ada, and choose the better way. |

Dear loving Father, thank You for giving us the formula for peacefulness throughout Your Word. When we are tempted to take a shortcut, remind us there is none. In Jesus’ name. Amen.

마음의 평화를 얻기 위한 얼마나 놀라운 처방입니까! 오늘 읽은 본문은 요약하면 다음과 같습니다. 모든 사람에게 진실을 말하십시오. 잠자리에 들기 전에 분노했던 사람들과 화해하십시오. 시험에 빠지지 마십시오. 당신의 소유가 아닌 것은 어떤 것도 취하지 마십시오. 하루의 일에 정직하십시오. 그리고 당신의 가진 것을 필요한 사람들과 함께 나누십시오.
옛날에 온 식구가 거짓말하기로 유명한 가족이 있었습니다. 그들은 거짓보다는 진실이 그들에게 더욱 이익이 될 때에도 거짓말을 했습니다. 그 결과 그들은 비참하게 되었습니다. 그들은 서로에게 남이 말하는 것을 믿지 않는다고 불평을 했습니다. 그들은 자신의 거짓말 때문에 남도 믿지 못했습니다.
한편 진실이 고통이 된다할지라도 언제나 사실만을 말하는 어느 부인을 저는 알고 있습니다. 그 부인은 항상 겸손하고 온유하며 재치와 친절로 고통을 반감시킵니다. 그 부인은 자신이 가진 세상의 소유물뿐만 아니라 그녀의 시간과 사랑으로 화평케 하며 아낌없이 주는 사람입니다. 비록 그녀의 삶이 문제가 없는 것이 아니었지만 헌신과 인자로 살아온 기쁨의 삶입니다.
다음번에 혹시 진실을 회피하거나 원한을 가지거나 이기적이 되려는 유혹을 받게 될 때 당신이 저의 친구 에이다를 생각하고 보다 나은 길을 택하시길 소원합니다. |
