| The Incredible Body |

| “For just as the body is one and has many members, and all the members of the body, though many, are one body, so it is with Christ. For in the one Spirit we were all baptized into one body.” ( 1 Corinthians 12:12, 13 , NRSV ) |

I am a sports fan and I especially like to watch how winners celebrate. Have you ever noticed the difference between a single athlete celebrating and a team celebrating? The team celebrations seem much more joyous, and I think the reason is because there is something about being in common cause with other people in pursuit of a goal that transcends the individual experience.
In the same way, the frustrations we feel as part of a team easily surpass the frustration we feel when working alone. When the parts of a team are working against one another and asserting themselves as individuals the team enterprise easily breaks down. It takes a lot of work to be a team!
The apostle Paul compares the church to one of the most extraordinary and beautiful “teams” known to mankind: the human body. And to continue the team analogy, the Holy Spirit is the “coach” of this team. He directs each player to the role best suited for the team’s success, admonishes everyone to work together, and does not permit any “all stars” to fracture the team’s unity. The results can be incredible.
Praise God for the mysterious and extraordinary way He calls His followers to work together in harmony! |

Father, we acknowledge Your desire that we be a “team” that honors You and serves others. Thank you for the variety of gifts You have given us. May we be one today. In Jesus’ name. Amen.

| 신기한 몸 |

| “몸은 하나인데 많은 지체가 있고 몸의 지체가 많으나 한 몸임과 같이 그리스도도 그러하니라. 우리가 유대인이나 헬라인이나 종이나 자유자나 다 한 성령으로 세례를 받아 한 몸이 되었고 또 다 한 성령을 마시게 하셨느니라.” ( 고린도전서 12:12, 13) |

저는 스포츠를 좋아합니다. 특히, 승자들이 어떻게 승리를 축하하는지 보는 것을 좋아합니다. 여러분은 한 선수가 축하하는 것과 한 팀이 축하하는 것의 차이를 아십니까? 팀이 축하하는 것이 더 기쁨에 넘쳐 보입니다. 거기에는 개인의 경험을 초월해서 하나의 목표를 추구함에 있어 다른 사람들과 공유하는 큰 목적이 있기 때문에 그럴 것이라고 저는 생각합니다.
마찬가지로 한 팀의 일원으로서 느끼는 좌절들은 혼자서 일할 때 느끼는 좌절 보다 낫습니다. 한 팀의 구성원들이 서로 일하면서 반목하고 각자 개인의 의견을 주장할 때 팀 정신은 쉽게 무너집니다. 팀이 되는 것은 많은 일을 요구합니다!
사도 바울은 교회를 인류에게 알려진 가장 뛰어난 아름다운 ‘팀들’ 중의 하나로, 인간의 몸에 비유합니다. 팀의 동질성을 유지하는 데에 있어서, 성령님이 이 팀의 ‘감독’입니다. 성령님은 각각의 선수에게 팀의 성공에 가장 잘 맞는 역할을 지시하시며, 함께 일하도록 권면하시고, 어떤 인기 있는 선수가 팀의 연합을 무너뜨리도록 허용하지 않으십니다. 그 결과는 놀라운 것입니다.
하나님께서 그의 백성들을 조화 가운데 함께 일하게 부르시는 신비로운 방법에 대하여 하나님을 찬양합시다. |

| 아버지 하나님, 저희가 ‘팀’이 되어서 하나님을 경외하고 다른 사람들을 섬기도록 하는 하나님의 소원을 깨달았습니다. 저희에게 주신 은사의 다양성에 대하여 감사를 드립니다. 오늘 저희가 하나되게 하소서. 예수님의 이름으로 기도 드립니다. 아멘. |
