| So the Multitude Marveled |
|

I often wonder how I would have reacted had I been born a Jew and lived in Palestine during the ministry of Christ. Would I have been skeptical of the man Jesus? Would I have faced the clear evidence of the blind to whom Jesus had given sight and the lame who walked by His healing touch? Would I have been blinded by my own prejudice?
“Many who saw Jesus at work marveled”(NKJV). Some translations read were amazed. They were there! They saw the results of His work. They heard the shrieks of joy and excitement. They were truly overwhelmed by the raw power of the carpenter from Nazareth.
As we read such accounts in the calm and quiet of our living room or den, let us not let them become ordinary and routine. Let us read them as if we were there in the midst of the marveling multitude.
We can be awe struck in the presence of the King of Kings. We can feel shivers up the spine when we read of God’s Son hanging from three nails because we have sinned. Our mouths can drop open when we read that on the third day the tomb was empty. We can feel the excitement as we await the Lord’s return to take us home with Him for eternity. |

Dear Lord, You are the powerful and amazing God. Keep us from taking any of Your wondrous works for granted. Let us always be thrilled by Your blessings and Your love. In Jesus’ name. Amen.

| 기적에 놀라다 |
|
| “내 영혼아, 여호와를 송축하라. 내 속에 있는 것들아, 다 그 성호를 송축하라. 내 영혼아, 여호와를 송축하며 그 모든 은택을 잊지 말지어다.” ( 시편 103:1~2) |

저는 종종 제가 예수님께서 사역하셨던 시대의 팔레스틴에 유대인으로 태어나서 살았더라면 어떻게 행동했을까 궁금합니다. 인간 예수에 대해 회의적이었을까요? 예수님의 능력에 대한 명백한 증거인 예수님께서 시력을 회복시켜준 장님과 걸음을 걷게 한 절름발이를 볼 수 있었을까요? 아니면 내 자신의 편견 때문에 그런 것들을 보지 못했을까요?
“예수님께서 하셨던 사역을 보았던 많은 사람은 놀랐다.”라고 NKJV성경은 쓰고 있습니다. 다른 성경도 비슷합니다. 그들은 예수님께서 하셨던 일들의 결과들을 보았습니다. 그들은 기쁨과 놀라움의 환성을 들었습니다. 그들은 나사렛으로부터 온 그 목수의 능력에 완전히 압도되었던 것입니다.
조용하고 평화로운 우리의 거실이나 서재에서 그러한 이야기들을 읽어나갈 때, 그것을 평범하고 일상적인 일들로 여기지 않도록 합시다. 그러한 이야기들을 마치 우리가 놀라고 있는 군중들 한 가운데에 있는 것과 같은 심정으로 읽읍시다.
우리는 만왕의 왕 앞에서 두려운 생각이 들지도 모릅니다. 우리의 죄 때문에 하나님의 아들이 세 개의 못에 박힌 이야기를 읽을 때 간담이 서늘할지도 모릅니다. 삼일 째 되던 날 예수의 무덤이 빈 사실을 읽을 때 우리 입을 다물 수 없을지 모릅니다. 마침내 주님께서 우리를 영원한 나라로 데려 가시기 위해 오시는 것을 우리가 간절한 마음으로 기다릴 수 있습니다. |

| 사랑하는 주님, 주님은 능하시고 놀라운 하나님이십니다. 주님의 놀라우신 일들을 당연한 것으로 받아들이지 않게 하소서. 주님의 축복과 사랑으로 늘 감동 받게 하소서. 예수님 이름으로 기도합니다. 아멘. |
