| Trouble All Around |

IN OLD Testament times, God's people fought their enemies with the sword. Today, God's people use the "sword of the Spirit, which is the Word of God" (Ephesians 6:17, RSV).
In either situation, survival requires that one not allow one's enemies to appear before and behind one at the same time!
In today's reading we see what God's people did when ambushed: they "cried to the Lord"; they "blew the trumpets"; and they "raised the battle shout." Summarized, this means uniting Divine power and human activity.
We see this principle throughout the Bible. Virtually any time that "salvation" is considered, whether physical or spiritual, we will find the cooperative union of Divine and human activity.
Someone has said that when there is trouble all around we must "pray as if it all depends on God, and work as if it all depends on us." This blend will avoid both senseless dependency and an undesirable humanism. Jesus, who came "to do the will of the Father," also said, "We must work" (John 9:4, RSV).
The battle is real, and Satan has nowhere obligated himself to fight fairly. |

Holy Father, when the battle is pressing in our lives, help us to remember that Your mighty arm is already outstretched to help us. In the strong Name of Christ. Amen.

| 사방에 에워 싼 적 |

| “너희가 여호와와 함께 하면 여호와께서 너희와 함께 하실지라.” ( 역대하 15:2) |

구약시대에 하나님의 사람들은 칼을 들어 적들과 싸웠습니다. 오늘날 우리 하나님의 사람들은 "성령의 검, 곧 하나님의 말씀"으로 우리의 적과 맞섭니다. (엡 6:17)
어느 처지에 있든지 살아남으려면 앞뒤 양쪽에서 한꺼번에 적이 나타나지 않도록 해야합니다.
오늘 본문 말씀에서 우리는 복병을 만날 때 하나님의 사람들이 어떻게 대처했는지를 보게 됩니다. 주님께 부르짖고 나팔을 불었습니다. 그리곤 소리 높이 외치며 전쟁에 임했습니다. 이것은 곧 하나님의 힘과 사람의 행위의 결합을 의미합니다.
이와 같은 원리는 성경을 통해 볼 수 있습니다. 사실상 육적이든 영적이든 간에 사람에 대한 "구원"이 이루어질 때 하나님과 사람의 행동의 결합을 발견하게 됩니다.
이점에 대해 누군가 이렇게 말했습니다. 사방에 어려움이 쌓일 때 우리는 "모든 것을 하나님께 맡기듯 기도하고, 모든 것이 우리에게 달려 있는 것처럼 일해야만 한다." 이와 같은 결합이 무분별한 의존과 바람직하지 못한 인본주의 두 가지 모두를 피할 수 있게 만듭니다. "아버지의 뜻을 이루기 위해" 오신 예수님도 이렇게 말씀하셨습니다. "나를 보내신 이의 일을 우리가 하여야 하리라."(요 9:4)
이 전쟁은 실제적인 것이며, 그렇게 할 때 사탄은 공정하게 싸울 장소가 어디에도 없을 것입니다. |
