God’s Children Win Against the World1The people who believe that Jesus is the Messiah* are God’s children. Anyone who loves the Father also loves the Father’s children. 2How do we know that we love God’s children? We know because we love God and we obey his commands. 3Loving God means obeying his commands. And God’s commands are not too hard for us, 4because everyone who is a child of God has the power to win against the world. 5It is our faith that has won the victory against the world. So who wins against the world? Only those who believe that Jesus is the Son of God.
God Told Us About His Son 6Jesus Christ is the one who came. He came with water and with blood*. He did not come by water only. No, Jesus came by both water and blood. And the Spirit* tells us that this is true. The Spirit* is the truth. 7So there are three witnesses that tell us about Jesus: 8the Spirit, the water, and the blood. These three witnesses agree. 9We believe people when they say something is true. But what God says is more important. And this is what God told us: He told us the truth about his own Son. 10Whoever believes in the Son of God has the truth that God told us. But people who do not believe God make God a liar, because they do not believe what God told us about his Son. 11This is what God told us: God has given us eternal life, and this life is in his Son. 12Whoever has the Son has life, but whoever does not have the Son of God does not have life.
We Have Eternal Life Now 13I write this letter to you who believe in the Son of God. I write so that you will know that you have eternal life now. 14We can come to God with no doubts. This means that when we ask God for things (and those things agree with what God wants for us), God cares about what we say. 15He listens to us every time we ask him. So we know that he gives us whatever we ask from him. 16Suppose you see your fellow believer* sinning (sin that does not lead to eternal death). You should pray for them. Then God will give them life. I am talking about people whose sin does not lead to eternal death. There is sin that leads to death. I don’t mean that you should pray about that kind of sin. 17Doing wrong is always sin. But there is sin that does not lead to eternal death. 18We know that those who have been made God’s children do not continue to sin. The Son of God keeps them safe.* The Evil One* cannot hurt them. 19We know that we belong to God, but the Evil One controls the whole world. 20And we know that the Son of God has come and has given us understanding. So now we can know the one who is true, and we live in that true God. We are in his Son, Jesus Christ. He is the true God, and he is eternal life. 21So, dear children, keep yourselves away from false gods. |

하나님의 자녀들이 세상을 이기다 1누구든지 예수께서 그리스도이심을 믿는 사람은 모두 하나님께로부터 난 사람입니다. 그리고 아버지 된 이를 사랑하는 사람은 모두 그 아버지의 자녀도 사랑합니다. 2우리가 하나님을 사랑하고 그분의 명령을 따르면, 이것으로써 우리가 하나님의 자녀들을 사랑한다는 것을 알 수 있습니다. 3하나님의 계명에 순종하는 것이 곧 하나님에 대한 사랑입니다. 그리고 하나님의 계명은 우리가 지키기에 너무 힘든 것이 아닙니다. 4누구든지 하나님께로부터 난 사람은 모두 세상을 이기기 때문입니다. 우리가 세상을 이길 수 있는 것은 우리의 믿음 때문입니다. 5그러니 세상을 이기는 사람이 누구입니까? 오로지 예수께서 하나님의 아들이심을 믿는 그 사람뿐입니다.
하나님께서 아들에 대해 우리에게 말씀하셨다 6물과 피로* 우리에게 오신 분은 예수 그리스도이십니다. 그분은 물로만 오신 것이 아니라, 물과 피로* 오셨습니다. 그리고 이것을 증언하시는 분은 성령이십니다. 성령은 진리이시기 때문입니다. 7예수에 대하여 증언하는 이가 셋 있습니다. 8곧 성령과, 그분이 받으신 세례의 물과, 그분이 당하신 죽음의 피입니다. 이 셋의 증언이 한가지로 똑같습니다. 9우리는 사람의 증언도 받아들입니다. 그렇다면 하나님의 증언은 훨씬 믿을 만한 증언으로 받아들여야 합니다. 그것은 하나님께서 친히 당신의 아들에 관하여 해 주신 증언이기 때문입니다. 10하나님의 아들을 믿는 사람은 하나님의 이 증언을 마음에 간직하고 있습니다. 하나님의 말씀을 믿지 않는 사람은 하나님을 거짓말쟁이로 만듭니다. 그런 사람은 하나님께서 당신의 아들에 관하여 해 주신 증언을 믿지 않기 때문입니다. 11하나님께서 당신의 아들에 관하여 하신 증언은 이것입니다. 하나님께서 우리에게 영원한 생명을 주셨다는 것과, 그 생명이 그 아들 안에 있다는 것입니다. 12그러므로 하나님의 아들을 모신 사람은 이 영원한 생명을 가진 사람이고, 그 아들을 모시지 않은 사람은 생명을 가지지 못한 사람입니다.
우리는 지금 영원한 생명을 누린다 13나는 하나님의 아들의 이름을 믿는 여러분에게 이 글을 씁니다. 그것은, 여러분이 영원한 생명을 가졌다는 것을 여러분 자신이 알게 하려는 것입니다. 14그리고 우리는 확신합니다. 우리가 하나님의 뜻에 맞게 청하는 것을 하나님께서 들어주신다는 것입니다. 15우리가 무엇을 청하든지 하나님께서 다 들어주신다는 것을 알고 있으니, 우리가 청한 것은 이미 모두 받은 것이나 다름없습니다. 16어떤 형제가 죄짓는 것을 보거든 그 형제를 위해서 기도하십시오. 그 형제의 지은 죄가 죽음에 이르게 하는 죄가 아니라면 하나님께서 그 형제에게 생명을 주실 것입니다. 그러나 죄에는 죽음에 이르게 하는 죄가 있습니다. 이런 죄를 지은 형제를 위해 기도하라는 말은 아닙니다. 17의롭지 못한 일은 모두 죄입니다. 그러나 이 모든 죄가 다 죽음에 이르게 하지는 않습니다. 18누구든지 하나님께로부터 난 사람들은 계속하여 죄를 짓지 않는다는 것을 우리는 알고 있습니다. 하나님의 아들*이 그 사람을 지켜 주시니, 악마가 그를 해치지 못합니다. 19우리는, 우리가 하나님의 자녀라는 것과 온 세상은 악마의 다스림을 받고 있다는 것을 알고 있습니다. 20또한 하나님의 아들이 오셨다는 것과, 우리로 하여금 참되신 하나님을 알게 하시려고 그분(아들)이 우리에게 이해력을 주셨다는 것도 알고 있습니다. 그리고 우리는 참되신 분 곧 하나님의 아들 예수 그리스도 안에서 살고 있습니다. 그분이야말로 참 하나님이시며 영원한 생명이십니다. 21나의 어린 자녀들이여, 거짓 신들을 멀리하십시오. |
