Pray for Us1And now, brothers and sisters, pray for us. Pray that the Lord’s teaching will continue to spread quickly. And pray that people will give honor to that teaching, the same as happened with you. 2And pray that we will be protected from crooked and evil people. Not everyone believes in the Lord, you know. 3But the Lord is faithful. He will give you strength and protect you from the Evil One*. 4The Lord gives us confidence that you are doing what we told you and that you will continue to do it. 5We pray that the Lord will cause you to feel God’s love and remember Christ’s patient endurance.
The Obligation to Work 6Brothers and sisters, by the authority of our Lord Jesus Christ we tell you to stay away from any believer who refuses to work. People who refuse to work are not following the teaching that we gave them. 7You yourselves know that you should live like we do. We were not lazy when we were with you. 8We never accepted food from anyone without paying for it. We worked and worked so that we would not be a burden to any of you. We worked night and day. 9We had the right to ask you to help us. But we worked to take care of ourselves so that we would be an example for you to follow. 10When we were with you, we gave you this rule: “Whoever will not work should not be allowed to eat.” 11We hear that some people in your group refuse to work. They are doing nothing except being busy in the lives of others. 12Our instruction to them is to stop bothering others, to start working and earn their own food. It is by the authority of the Lord Jesus Christ that we are urging them to do this. 13Brothers and sisters, never get tired of doing good. 14If there are some there who refuse to do what we tell you in this letter, remember who they are. Don’t associate with them. Then maybe they will feel ashamed. 15But don’t treat them as enemies. Counsel them as fellow believers*.
Final Words 16We pray that the Lord of peace will give you peace at all times and in every way. The Lord be with you all. 17Here’s my greeting in my own handwriting - Paul. 우리를 위해 기도하라 1끝으로, 형제자매 여러분, 우리를 위하여 기도해 주십시오. 주님의 말씀이 여러분 가운데서처럼, 다른 모든 곳에서도 빨리 퍼져나가서 영광을 받게 되도록 기도해 주십시오. 2그리고 우리가 불의하고 악한 사람들에게서 풀려나도록 기도해 주십시오. 모든 사람이 다 믿음을 갖고 있지는 않습니다. 3그러나 주님은 신실하신 분이므로, 여러분을 굳세게 하시고, 악한 자로부터 지켜 주실 것입니다. 4우리는 주 안에서 확실히 믿습니다. 곧 여러분이, 우리가 명령한 것을 지금도 실천하고 있고 앞으로도 실천하리라는 것입니다. 5주께서 여러분의 마음을 이끌어 주셔서, 여러분이 하나님을 사랑하게 되고, 그리스도의 인내심을 가지게 되기를 바랍니다.
일해야 할 의무 6주 예수 그리스도의 이름으로 형제자매 여러분에게 명합니다. 게으르게 살며 우리에게서 받은 전통을 따르지 않는 모든 형제자매를 멀리하십시오. 7우리를 어떻게 본받아야 하는지 여러분 자신이 잘 알고 있습니다. 우리가 여러분과 함께 있을 때에, 우리는 무책임하게 처신하지 않았습니다. 8우리는 누구에게서도 값을 치르지 않고 거저 양식을 얻어먹은 일이 없습니다. 오히려 우리는 여러분에게 짐이 되지 않으려고 수고하고 고생하면서 밤낮으로 일하였습니다. 9우리가 그렇게 한 것은, 우리에게 권리가 없어서가 아니라, 여러분도 우리를 본받아 그렇게 살게 하려는 것이었습니다. 10그래서 우리가 여러분과 함께 있을 때에 “일하기 싫은 사람은 먹지도 마라.”고 명하였던 것입니다. 11그런데 우리가 들으니, 여러분 가운데 게으르게 살면서 자기 일을 하느라고 바쁜 것이 아니라, 쓸데없이 남의 일에 참견하느라고 바쁜 사람들이 있다고 합니다. 12주 예수 그리스도 안에서 그 사람들에게 명령하고 권고합니다. 조용히 일하여, 자기가 먹을 것을 벌어서 먹도록 하십시오. 13그리고 형제자매 여러분, 여러분은 좋은 일을 하다가 낙심하지 마십시오. 14우리가 이 편지에 써 보내는 말을 듣지 않는 사람이 있다면, 그 사람을 특별히 눈여겨보고 그와 사귀지 마십시오. 그리하여 그 사람이 부끄러움을 느끼게 하십시오. 15그러나 그 사람을 원수로 대하지 말고, 형제로서 따뜻하게 타이르십시오.
