1Greetings from Paul, Silas, and Timothy.
To the church* of those in Thessalonica, who are in God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ. 2Grace* and peace to you from God the Father and the Lord Jesus Christ. 3We thank God for you always. And that’s what we should do, because you give us good reason to be thankful: Your faith is growing more and more. And the love that every one of you has for each other is also growing. 4So we tell the other churches of God how proud we are of you. We tell them how you patiently continue to be strong and have faith, even though you are being persecuted* and are suffering many troubles.
Paul Tells About God’s Judgment 5This is proof that God is right in his judgment. He wants you to be worthy of his kingdom*. Your suffering is for that kingdom. 6God will do what is right. He will punish those who are causing you trouble. 7And he will bring relief to you who are troubled. He will bring it to you and to us when the Lord Jesus comes from heaven for all to see, together with his powerful angels. 8He will come with burning fire to punish those who don’t know God - those who refuse to accept the Good News* about our Lord Jesus Christ. 9They will be punished with a destruction that never ends. They will not be allowed to be with the Lord but will be kept away from his great power. 10This will happen on the day when the Lord Jesus comes to receive honor with his holy people*. He will be admired among all who have believed. And this includes you because you believed what we told you. 11That is why we always pray for you. We ask our God to help you live the good way he wanted when he chose you. The goodness you have makes you want to do good. And the faith you have makes you work. We pray that with his power God will help you do these things more and more. 12Then the name of our Lord Jesus will be honored because of you, and you will be honored because of him. This can happen only by the grace* of our God and the Lord Jesus Christ. |

1바울과 실라와 디모데가, 하나님 우리 아버지와 주 예수 그리스도 안에 있는 데살로니가 사람들의 교회에게 이 편지를 씁니다. 2하나님 우리 아버지와 주 예수 그리스도의 은혜와 평화가 여러분에게 내리기를 빕니다. 3우리가 형제자매 여러분을 생각할 때마다 하나님께 감사를 드리는 것은 당연한 일입니다. 여러분의 믿음이 점점 더 자라고 있으며, 서로에 대한 여러분의 사랑이 커가고 있기 때문입니다. 4우리는, 여러분이 박해*와 어려움을 겪으면서도 잘 견디어 내며 믿음을 지키고 있는 것을, 하나님의 여러 교회에서 자랑하고 있습니다.
하나님의 심판 5그러나 이 모든 것은 하나님의 심판이 공정하다는 증거입니다. 여러분은 지금 하나님의 나라를 위하여 고통을 겪고 있지만, 그 결과로 하나님의 나라에 들어갈 자격을 얻을 것이기 때문입니다. 6하나님은 공정하십니다. 그러므로 여러분을 괴롭히는 자들에게는 괴로움으로 갚으시고, 7괴로움을 당하고 있는 여러분과 우리에게는 안식으로 갚아 주실 것입니다. 이 일은 주 예수께서 능력 있는 당신의 천사들과 함께 하늘로부터 나타나실 때에 이루어질 것입니다. 8그때에 예수께서는 타오르는 불꽃 가운데 나타나셔서, 하나님을 모르는 사람들과 우리 주 예수 그리스도의 기쁜 소식*에 순종하지 않는 사람들에게 벌을 내리실 것입니다. 9그들은 영원한 멸망의 벌을 받을 것입니다. 그들은 주님 앞에서 쫓겨나 주님과 함께 있을 수 없을 것입니다. 그리고 그분의 영광스러운 능력을 보지도 못할 것입니다. 10그날에 주께서 오셔서, 당신의 거룩한 백성* 가운데서 영광을 받으시고, 모든 믿는 이들은 그분을 보고 놀라워할 것입니다. 여러분도 그 믿는 이들 가운데에 들 것입니다. 그분에 관한 우리의 증언을 믿었기 때문입니다. 11우리는 다음과 같은 것을 마음에 두고 여러분을 위해 끊임없이 기도합니다. 곧 우리 하나님께서 여러분을 당신의 부르심에 걸맞은 사람들로 여겨 주시는 것입니다. 그리고 여러분의 모든 선한 목적과 믿음에서 우러나온 모든 행위를, 그분의 능력으로 이루어 주시는 것입니다. 12우리가 이렇게 기도하는 것은, 우리 하나님과 주 예수 그리스도의 은혜로, 우리 주 예수의 이름이 여러분 때문에 영광을 얻고, 여러분은 그분과 더불어 영광을 누리게 하려는 것입니다. |
