1You are God’s dear children, so try to be like him. 2Live a life of love. Love others just as Christ loved us. He gave himself for us - a sweet-smelling offering and sacrifice* to God. 3But there must be no sexual sin among you. There must not be any kind of evil or selfishly wanting more and more, because such things are not right for God’s holy people*. 4Also, there must be no evil talk among you. Don’t say things that are foolish or filthy. These are not for you. But you should be giving thanks to God. 5You can be sure of this: No one will have a place in the kingdom of Christ and of God if that person commits sexual sins, or does evil things, or is a person who selfishly wants more and more. A greedy person like that is serving a false god. 6Don’t let anyone fool you with words that are not true. God gets very angry when people who don’t obey him talk like that. 7So don’t have anything to do with them. 8In the past you were full of darkness*, but now you are full of light* in the Lord. So live like children who belong to the light. 9This light produces every kind of goodness, right living, and truth. 10Try to learn what pleases the Lord. 11Have no part in the things that people in darkness do, which produce nothing good. Instead, tell everyone how wrong those things are. 12Actually, it is shameful to even talk about the things those people do in secret. 13But the light makes clear how wrong those things are. 14Yes, everything is made clear by the light. This is why we say,
“Wake up, you who are sleeping! Rise from death,
and Christ will shine on you.” 15So be very careful how you live. Live wisely, not like fools. 16I mean that you should use every opportunity you have for doing good, because these are evil times. 17So don’t be foolish with your lives, but learn what the Lord wants you to do. 18Don’t be drunk with wine, which will ruin your life, but be filled with the Spirit*. 19Encourage each other with psalms, hymns, and spiritual songs. Sing and make music in your hearts to the Lord. 20Always give thanks to God the Father for everything in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ.
Wives and Husbands 21Be willing to serve each other out of respect for Christ. 22Wives, be willing to serve your husbands the same as the Lord. 23A husband is the head of his wife, just as Christ is the head of the church*. Christ is the Savior of the church, which is his body. 24The church serves under Christ, so it is the same with you wives. You should be willing to serve your husbands in everything. 25Husbands, love your wives the same as Christ loved the church and gave his life for it. 26He died to make the church holy*. He used the telling of the Good News* to make the church clean by washing it with water. 27Christ died so that he could give the church to himself like a bride in all her beauty. He died so that the church could be holy and without fault, with no evil or sin or any other thing wrong in it. 28And husbands should love their wives like that. They should love their wives as they love their own bodies. The man who loves his wife loves himself, 29because no one ever hates his own body, but feeds and takes care of it. And that is what Christ does for the church 30because we are parts of his body. 31The Scriptures* say, “That is why a man will leave his father and mother and join his wife, and the two people will become one.”* 32That secret truth is very important - I am talking about Christ and the church. 33But each one of you must love his wife as he loves himself. And a wife must respect her husband. |

1그러므로 하나님을 본받는 사람들이 되십시오. 여러분은 하나님께서 끔찍이 사랑하시는 자녀들이기 때문입니다. 2그리스도께서는 우리를 사랑하셨습니다. 그리하여 우리를 위해 자신을 바쳐, 하나님께 향기로운 예물과 희생 제물이 되셨습니다. 그러니 여러분도 그분처럼 다른 사람들을 위하는 사랑으로 가득 찬 삶을 사십시오. 3여러분은 성적인 부도덕이나 온갖 더러운 짓이나 욕심에 찬 말은 입에 담지도 마십시오. 그런 것들은 하나님의 거룩한 백성*에게는 어울리지 않습니다. 4또 추잡하거나 어리석거나 천박한 말도 여러분에게 전혀 어울리지 않습니다. 그보다는 감사의 말을 하십시오. 5부도덕한 성 관계를 가지는 사람이나 행실이 깨끗하지 못한 사람이나 욕심으로 가득 찬 사람은 그리스도와 하나님의 나라에서 물려받을 것이 아무것도 없다는 것을 분명히 알아 두십시오. 욕심으로 가득 찬 사람은 우상을 섬기는 사람입니다. 6헛된 말로 이러한 죄들을 변명하는 사람들의 말에 속아 넘어가지 마십시오. 이런 것들 때문에 하나님의 진노가 하나님께 순종하지 않는 사람들에게 내립니다. 7그러므로 그런 사람들과 어울리지 마십시오. 8여러분이 전에는 어둠으로 가득한 사람들이었으나, 지금은 주님께로부터 오는 빛으로 가득한 사람들입니다. 그러니 빛의 자녀답게 사십시오. 9빛에서 나오는 열매는 모든 선과, 올바른 삶과, 진리입니다. 10무엇이 주님을 기쁘게 해 드리는지 늘 살펴 가려내십시오. 11여러분은 열매를 맺지 못하는 어둠의 행위에 끼여들지 말고, 오히려 그런 일을 폭로하십시오. 12하나님께 순종하지 않는 자들이 숨어서 저지르는 짓들은 말하기조차 부끄러운 짓거리들입니다. 13그러나 그것들 위에 빛이 비치면, 그것들이 얼마나 악한 짓들인지 분명하게 드러납니다. 14모든 것을 드러나게 하는 것은 빛이기 때문입니다. 그래서 이런 말이 있습니다.
“오 잠자는 사람아, 잠에서 깨어나라.
죽은 자들 가운데서 일어나라.
그리스도께서 너를 환히 비추실 것이다.” 15그러므로 여러분은 어떻게 살아야 할지 잘 살피십시오. 미련한 사람이 되지 말고 지혜로운 사람이 되어, 16기회가 닿는 대로 선한 일을 하십시오.* 이 시대가 악하기 때문입니다. 17그러니 어리석게 살지 말고, 주님의 뜻이 무엇인지 깨달아 알도록 하십시오. 18술에 취하지 마십시오. 술에 취하면 방탕하게 됩니다. 오히려 성령으로 가득 차게 하십시오. 19시와 찬송과 영적인 노래를 서로 주고받으십시오. 마음으로부터 주님께 노래와 찬양을 바치십시오. 20언제나 모든 것에 대해서 우리 주 예수 그리스도의 이름으로 아버지 하나님께 감사하십시오.
아내와 남편 21그리스도를 두려워하는 마음으로 서로에게 자신들을 복종시키십시오. 22아내들은 주님께 복종하듯 남편에게 복종해야 합니다. 23그리스도께서 교회의 머리이신 것처럼 남편은 아내의 머리이기 때문입니다. 그리스도께서는 그분의 몸인 교회의 구주이십니다. 24교회가 그리스도께 복종하듯이, 아내도 모든 일에 있어서 남편에게 복종해야 합니다. 25남편들은 그리스도께서 교회를 사랑하고, 교회를 위하여 자신을 내주신 것처럼 아내를 사랑하십시오. 26그리스도께서 교회를 위하여 자신을 내주신 것은 교회를 거룩하게 하시려는 것이었습니다. 그분은 기쁜 소식*을 통하여 교회를 물로 씻음*으로써 깨끗하게 하셨습니다. 27그것은, 교회로 하여금 티나 구김살이나 그 밖의 어떤 흠 하나 없이, 거룩하고 나무랄 데 없는 아름다운 모습으로 당신 앞에 서게 하시려는 것입니다. 28이와 같이 남편은 자기 아내를 제 몸같이 사랑해야 합니다. 자기 아내를 사랑하는 것은 결국 자신을 사랑하는 것입니다. 29자기 몸을 미워하는 사람은 아무도 없습니다. 누구나 자기 몸을 가꾸고 돌봅니다. 그리스도께서도 교회를 기르고 돌보십니다. 30우리는 그리스도의 몸을 이루는 지체들입니다. 31”그러므로 사람이 자기 부모를 떠나 아내와 합하여, 두 사람이 한 몸을 이룰 것이다.”*라고 하였습니다. 32이 말씀의 뜻은 매우 깊고 신비합니다. 나는 지금 이 말씀을 그리스도와 교회의 관계에 적용하여 말하고 있습니다. 33그러니 여러분도 각기 아내를 자기 자신처럼 사랑하고, 아내도 남편을 존경하십시오. |
