Servants of God’s New Agreement1Why are we beginning again to tell you all these good things about ourselves? Do we need letters of introduction to you or from you, like some other people? 2No, you yourselves are our letter, written on our hearts. It is known and read by all people. 3You show that you are a letter from Christ that he sent through us. This letter is not written with ink but with the Spirit* of the living God. It is not written on stone* tablets but on human hearts. 4We can say this, because through Christ we feel sure before God. 5I don’t mean that we are able to do anything good ourselves. It is God who makes us able to do all that we do. 6He made us able to be servants of a new agreement* from himself to his people. It is not an agreement of written laws, but it is of the Spirit. The written law brings death, but the Spirit gives life.
An Agreement With Greater Glory 7The old agreement* that brought death, written with words on stone, came with God’s glory*. In fact, the face of Moses* was so bright with glory (a glory that was ending) that the people of Israel* could not continue looking at his face. 8So surely the new agreement that comes from the life-giving Spirit* has even more glory. 9This is what I mean: That old agreement judged people guilty of sin, but it had glory. So surely the new agreement that makes people right with God has much greater glory. 10That old agreement had glory. But it really loses its glory when it is compared to the much greater glory of the new agreement. 11If the agreement that was brought to an end came with glory, then the agreement that never ends has much greater glory. 12We are so sure of this hope that we can speak very openly. 13We are not like Moses, who put a covering over his face. He covered his face so that the people of Israel would not see it. The glory was disappearing, and Moses did not want them to see it end. 14But their minds were closed. And even today, when those people read the writings of the old agreement*, that same covering hides the meaning. That covering has not been removed for them. It is taken away only through Christ. 15Yes, even today, when they read the Law of Moses, there is a covering over their minds. 16But when someone changes and follows the Lord, that covering is taken away. 17The Lord is the Spirit, and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom. 18And our faces are not covered. We all show the Lord’s glory, and we are being changed to be like him. This change in us brings more and more glory, which comes from the Lord, who is the Spirit. |

하나님께서 새로 맺으신 계약의 종 1우리가 다시 우리 자신을 자랑하려고 이런 말을 하는 것이겠습니까? 우리도 어떤 사람들처럼 소개장을 가지고서야 여러분을 찾아갈 수 있단 말입니까? 또 다른 데로 갈 때에도 여러분의 소개장이 있어야 한단 말입니까? 2여러분 자신이 우리를 소개하는 편지입니다. 그 편지는 우리 마음에 쓰여 있습니다. 모든 사람이 그것을 읽고 깨달을 수 있습니다. 3여러분은 분명히 그리스도께서 우리를 시켜 써 보내신 편지입니다. 이 편지는 먹으로 쓴 것이 아니라, 살아 계신 하나님의 성령으로 쓴 것이요, 돌 판*에 새긴 것이 아니라, 사람의 마음 판에 새긴 것입니다. 4우리는 그리스도를 통해 하나님 앞에서 이러한 확신을 가지고 있습니다. 5그러나 우리 자신의 능력으로 이런 일을 할 수 있다는 뜻으로 하는 말은 아닙니다. 우리의 능력은 다 하나님께로부터 나온 것입니다. 6하나님께서는 우리에게 새 계약의 일꾼이 될 수 있는 능력을 주셨습니다. 새 계약은 문자로 기록된 율법에 바탕을 두고 맺어진 것이 아니라, 성령에 바탕을 두고 맺어진 것입니다. 문자로 쓰인 것은 죽음을 가져오지만, 성령은 생명을 가져다줍니다.
새 계약이 더 큰 영광을 가져오다 7하나님께서는 율법을 돌 판에 문자로 새겨서 모세에게 주셨습니다. 그 돌 판을 받았을 때, 모세의 얼굴이 영광으로 찬란하게 빛이 나서, 이스라엘 사람들은 그의 얼굴을 똑바로 바라볼 수 없었습니다. 물론 그 영광은 사라지고 말았습니다. 결국은 죽음에 이르게 하는 일(율법)의 심부름꾼인 모세에게도 이러한 영광이 따랐다면, 8성령의 심부름꾼에게는 더 큰 영광이 따르지 않겠습니까? 9모세의 일은 사람들을 정죄하는 것이었습니다. 그런데 그런 일에도 영광이 있었습니다. 우리의 일은 사람들을 하나님께서 받아 주실 만한 사람들이 되는 길로 인도하는 것입니다. 그렇다면 우리의 일에는 얼마나 더 큰 영광이 있겠습니까! 10한때 영광스럽던 것도, 그보다 훨씬 더 큰 지금의 이 영광에 견주어 보면 더는 영광스러운 것이 아닙니다. 11끝내는 없어지고 말 것도 영광스러웠다면, 길이 남을 것은 얼마나 더 영광스럽겠습니까! 12우리에게 이러한 희망이 있으니 우리는 아주 담대합니다. 13모세는 이스라엘 사람들이 그 영광(빛)이 사라지는 것을 볼 수 없게 하려고 너울로 얼굴을 가렸습니다. 그러나 우리는 모세처럼 그런 일은 하지 않습니다. 14사실 이스라엘 백성의 마음은 굳어져서, 오늘날에 이르기까지도 그 너울이 그들의 마음을 가리고 있습니다. 그래서 옛 계약의 책*을 읽어도, 그 뜻을 깨닫지 못합니다. 그 너울은 아직도 벗겨지지 않았습니다. 그것은 그리스도를 믿을 때에만 벗겨지기 때문입니다. 15오늘날까지도 그들이 모세의 율법을 읽을 때, 그들의 마음에는 너울이 덮여 있습니다. 16그러나 누구든지 주께 돌아오면 그의 너울은 벗겨집니다. 성경이 모세에 관하여 “그는 주 앞으로 들어가서 주와 함께 말할 때에는 너울을 벗었다.”*라고 말하는 것과 같습니다. 17주님은 성령이십니다. 주의 성령이 계시는 곳에는 자유가 있습니다. 18우리 모두는 얼굴에서 그 너울을 벗어 버렸습니다. 그리하여 거울처럼 주님의 영광을 반사합니다. 그리고 그분을 닮은 모습으로 바뀌어 가면서, 점점 더 큰 영광의 자리로 옮아 가고 있습니다. 이것은 성령이신 주께서 이루시는 일입니다. |
