| Let Love Be Your Guide1I may speak in different languages, whether human or even of angels. But if I don’t have love, I am only a noisy bell or a ringing cymbal. 2I may have the gift of prophecy*, I may understand all secrets and know everything there is to know, and I may have faith so great that I can move mountains. But even with all this, if I don’t have love, I am nothing. 3I may give away everything I have to help others, and I may even give my body as an offering to be burned. But I gain nothing by doing all this if I don’t have love. 4Love is patient and kind. Love is not jealous, it does not brag, and it is not proud. 5Love is not rude, it is not selfish, and it cannot be made angry easily. Love does not remember wrongs done against it. 6Love is never happy when others do wrong, but it is always happy with the truth. 7Love never gives up on people. It never stops trusting, never loses hope, and never quits. 8Love will never end. But all those gifts will come to an end - even the gift of prophecy, the gift of speaking in different kinds of languages, and the gift of knowledge. 9These will all end because this knowledge and these prophecies we have are not complete. 10But when perfection comes, the things that are not complete will end. 11When I was a child, I talked like a child, I thought like a child, and I made plans like a child. When I became a man, I stopped those childish ways. 12It is the same with us. Now we see God as if we are looking at a reflection in a mirror. But then, in the future, we will see him right before our eyes. Now I know only a part, but at that time I will know fully, as God has known me. 13So these three things continue: faith, hope, and love. And the greatest of these is love. |

| 1내가 비록
여러 가지 인간의 말을 하고
천사의 말까지 할 수 있다 하여도,
내게 사랑이 없으면
나는 아무 뜻도 없이 그저 울려 대는
징이나 꽹과리에 지나지 않습니다. 2내가
하나님의 말씀을 받아 전하는* 은사를 받고
하나님의 은밀한 비밀을 다 알고
온갖 지식을 다 갖추고
또 산을 옮길 만한 큰 믿음을 가졌다 하여도,
내게 사랑이 없으면,
나는 아무것도 아닙니다. 3내가
가진 모든 것으로
가난한 사람들을 구제하고,
내 몸을 제물로 바쳐 불사르게 한다 하여도,*
내게 사랑이 없으면
이 모든 것이 내게 아무 소용이 없습니다. 4사랑은 오래 참고
사랑은 친절합니다.
사랑은
시기하지 않으며
자랑하지 않으며
교만하지 않습니다. 5사랑은
무례하지 않으며
이기적이지 않으며
쉽게 성내지 않으며,
자기가 당한 억울한 일을 기억하지 않습니다. 6사랑은
악을 보고 기뻐하지 않으며
진리를 보고 기뻐합니다. 7사랑은
모든 것을 감싸 주고
언제나 믿어 주고
희망을 버리지 않으며
끈질기게 견디어 냅니다. 8사랑은 결코 없어지지 않습니다.
예언은 있다가도 그치고
방언*도 있다가 잠잠해지고
지식도 있다가 지나가 버릴 것입니다. 9우리가 불완전하게 알고
불완전하게 예언하기 때문입니다. 10그러나 완전한 것이 오면
불완전한 것은 사라집니다. 11내가 어린아이였을 때에는
어린아이같이 말하고
어린아이같이 생각하고
어린아이같이 판단하였습니다.
그러나 어른이 되어서는
그런 어린아이 같은 짓들을 버렸습니다. 12지금은 우리가
거울 속에 비친 희미한 모습을 봅니다.
그러나 그때에는
얼굴과 얼굴을 마주하고 볼 것입니다.
지금은
내가 불완전하게 알 뿐이나,
그때가 되면
하나님께서 나를 완전히 아시듯
나도 모든 것을 완전하게 알 것입니다. 13믿음과 소망과 사랑
이 세 가지는 언제까지나 남아 있을 것입니다.
그러나 이들 가운데 가장 위대한 것은 사랑입니다. |
