Life in the Spirit1So now anyone who is in Christ Jesus is not judged guilty. 2That is because in Christ Jesus the law of the Spirit* that brings life made you* free. It made you free from the law that brings sin and death. 3The law* was without power because it was made weak by our sinful selves. But God did what the law could not do: He sent his own Son to earth with the same human life that everyone else uses for sin. God sent him to be an offering to pay for sin. So God used a human life to destroy sin. 4He did this so that we could be right just as the law said we must be. Now we don’t live following our sinful selves. We live following the Spirit. 5People who live following their sinful selves think only about what they want. But those who live following the Spirit are thinking about what the Spirit wants them to do. 6If your thinking is controlled by your sinful self, there is spiritual death. But if your thinking is controlled by the Spirit, there is life and peace. 7Why is this true? Because anyone whose thinking is controlled by their sinful self is against God. They refuse to obey God’s law. And really they are not able to obey it. 8Those who are ruled by their sinful selves cannot please God. 9But you are not ruled by your sinful selves. You are ruled by the Spirit, if that Spirit of God really lives in you. But whoever does not have the Spirit of Christ does not belong to Christ. 10Your body will always be dead because of sin. But if Christ is in you, then the Spirit gives you life, because Christ made you right with God. 11God raised Jesus from death. And if God’s Spirit lives in you, he will also give life to your bodies that die. Yes, God is the one who raised Christ from death, and he will raise you to life through his Spirit living in you. 12So, my brothers and sisters, we must not be ruled by our sinful selves. We must not live the way our sinful selves want. 13If you use your lives to do what your sinful selves want, you will die spiritually. But if you use the Spirit’s help to stop doing the wrong things you do with your body, you will have true life. 14The true children of God are those who let God’s Spirit lead them. 15The Spirit that we received is not a spirit that makes us slaves again and causes us to fear. The Spirit that we have makes us God’s chosen children. And with that Spirit we cry out, “Abba*, Father.” 16And the Spirit himself speaks to our spirits and makes us sure that we are God’s children. 17If we are God’s children, we will get the blessings God has for his people. He will give us all that he has given Christ. But we must suffer like Christ suffered. Then we will be able to share his glory*.
We Will Have Glory in the Future 18We have sufferings now, but these are nothing compared to the great glory* that will be given to us. 19Everything that God made is waiting with excitement for the time when he will show the world who his children are. The whole world wants very much for that to happen. 20Everything God made was allowed to become like something that cannot fulfill its purpose. That was not its choice, but God made it happen with this hope in view: 21That the creation would be made free from ruin - that everything God made would have the same freedom and glory that belong to God’s children. 22We know that everything God made has been waiting until now in pain like a woman ready to give birth to a child. 23Not only the world, but we also have been waiting with pain inside us. We have the Spirit* as the first part of God’s promise. So we are waiting for God to finish making us his own children. I mean we are waiting for our bodies to be made free. 24We were saved to have this hope. If we can see what we are waiting for, that is not really hope. People don’t hope for something they already have. 25But we are hoping for something we don’t have yet, and we are waiting for it patiently. 26Also, the Spirit helps us. We are very weak, but the Spirit helps us with our weakness. We don’t know how to pray as we should, but the Spirit himself speaks to God for us. He begs God for us, speaking to him with feelings too deep for words. 27God already knows our deepest thoughts. And he understands what the Spirit is saying, because the Spirit speaks for his people in the way that agrees with what God wants. 28We know that in everything God works for the good of those who love him. These are the people God chose, because that was his plan. 29God knew them before he made the world. And he decided that they would be like his Son. Then Jesus would be the firstborn* of many brothers and sisters. 30God planned for them to be like his Son. He chose them and made them right with him. And after he made them right, he gave them his glory.
God’s Love in Christ Jesus 31So what should we say about this? If God is for us, no one can stand against us. And God is with us. 32He even let his own Son suffer for us. God gave his Son for all of us. So now with Jesus, God will surely give us all things. 33Who can accuse the people God has chosen? No one! God is the one who makes them right. 34Who can say that God’s people are guilty? No one! Christ Jesus died for us, but that is not all. He was also raised from death. And now he is at God’s right side, speaking to him for us. 35Can anything separate us from Christ’s love? Can trouble or problems or persecution* separate us from his love? If we have no food or clothes or face danger or even death, will that separate us from his love? 36As the Scriptures* say,
“For you we are in danger of death all the time. People think we are worth no more than sheep to be killed.”* 37But in all these troubles we have complete victory through God, who has shown his love for us. 38-39Yes, I am sure that nothing can separate us from God’s love - not death, life, angels, or ruling spirits. I am sure that nothing now, nothing in the future, no powers, nothing above us or nothing below us - nothing in the whole created world - will ever be able to separate us from the love God has shown us in Christ Jesus our Lord. |

성령 안에서의 삶 1그러므로 이제 그리스도 예수 안에 있는 사람들은 정죄*를 받지 않습니다. 2그것은, 생명을 누리게 하는 성령*의 법이, 죽음에 이르게 하는 죄의 법에서 그리스도 예수를 통하여 당신을 해방시켜 주었기 때문입니다. 3율법이 사람의 본성 때문에 힘을 잃어 할 수 없었던 일을, 하나님은 하셨습니다. 곧 하나님께서 당신의 아들을 정결 제물*이 되게 하시려고, 우리의 몸과 똑같은 인간의 몸을 입고 세상에 나게 하심으로써 그 일을 하셨습니다. 그리하여 하나님은 당신의 아들이 입으신 사람의 몸을 써서 죄를 정죄하고 벌하셨습니다. 4그것은, 우리로 하여금 법이 요구하는 것을 이루게 하려는 것이었습니다. 우리는, 사람의 본성에 따라 살지 않고 성령을 따라 삶으로써, 율법이 요구하는 것을 이룹니다. 5사람의 본성을 따라 사는 사람들은, 그 본성이 원하는 일에 마음을 둡니다. 그러나 성령을 따라 사는 사람들은 성령께서 원하시는 일에 마음을 둡니다. 6사람의 본성이 지배하는 마음가짐은 영적 죽음에 이르게 하고, 성령의 지배를 받는 마음가짐은 생명과 평화에 이르게 합니다. 7사람의 본성이 지배하는 마음가짐은 하나님께 적대감을 가집니다. 그것은 하나님의 법에 복종하지 않으며, 또 복종할 수도 없기 때문입니다. 8사람의 본성의 지배를 받는 사람들은 하나님을 기쁘게 해 드릴 수 없습니다. 9그러나 하나님의 영*이 정말로 여러분 안에 살고 계시면, 여러분은 사람의 본성의 지배를 받지 않고 성령의 지배를 받습니다. 그리고 누구든지 그리스도의 영을 모시지 않은 사람은 그리스도께 속한 사람이 아닙니다. 10그러나 그리스도께서 여러분 안에 살고 계시면, 여러분의 몸은 죄 때문에 죽겠지만, 성령께서 여러분에게 생명을 주십니다. 하나님께서 여러분을 받아 주셨기 때문입니다. 11죽은 사람들 가운데서 예수를 살려 내신 하나님의 영이 여러분 안에 살아 계십니다. 그러므로 그분이 죽은 사람들 가운데서 그리스도를 일으키신 것과 마찬가지로, 여러분 안에 사시는 성령을 통하여 여러분의 죽을 수밖에 없는 몸에 생명을 주실 것입니다. 12그러므로 형제자매 여러분, 우리는 빚진 사람입니다. 그러나 사람의 본성에 빚을 진 것은 아닙니다. 그러니 그것이 지시하는 대로 살아야 할 의무는 없습니다. 13만약 여러분이 사람의 본성을 따라 살면, 여러분은 영적으로 죽을 것입니다. 그러나 여러분이 성령*의 도움을 받아 몸으로 저지르는 행실들을 죽이면, 여러분은 살 것입니다. 14하나님의 영*께서 이끌어 주시는 대로 사는 사람은 모두 하나님의 자녀입니다. 15여러분이 받은 성령은 여러분을 종으로 삼거나, 또다시 두려움에 떨게 만들지 않습니다. 오히려 여러분이 받은 성령은 여러분을 하나님의 자녀로 만들어 주십니다. 그래서 우리는 성령을 통하여 하나님께 “아바*, 아버지!”라고 외칩니다. 16성령님 자신이 우리가 하나님의 자녀임을 우리의 영과 함께 증언해 주십니다. 17우리가 하나님의 자녀이면 상속자이기도 합니다. 하나님의 상속자요, 그리스도와 더불어 공동 상속자입니다. 그러나 우리가 그리스도의 영광을 나누어 누리려면, 그분의 고난 또한 나누어 겪어야 합니다.
우리는 미래에 영광을 받을 것이다 18나는, 우리가 지금 겪고 있는 고난은, 우리에게 보여 주실 영광과 견줄 만한 가치도 없다고 생각합니다. 19하나님께서 지으신 세상 만물이, 하나님께서 누가 참 당신의 자녀들인가를 나타내 보여 주시기를 간절히 기다리고 있습니다. 20하나님께서 창조하신 만물이 아무런 쓸모가 없는 것들로 변해 버렸습니다. 그것들이 그렇게 되고 싶어서 그렇게 된 것이 아니라, 하나님께서 그렇게 되도록 하셨습니다. 그러나 거기에는 이런 희망이 있습니다. 21곧, 하나님께서 창조하신 만물이 죽음과 멸망의 사슬에서 벗어나, 그분의 자녀들을 위하여 마련된 자유와 영광을 같이 누리게 되리라는 희망입니다. 22하나님께서 창조하신 만물이 아기를 낳으려는 여자처럼, 지금까지 신음하며 해산의 고통을 겪어 왔다는 것을 우리는 알고 있습니다. 23그뿐 아니라 우리도, 하나님께서 우리를 당신의 자녀로 삼아 주시고, 우리의 몸이 구원받을 날을 기다리면서 속으로 신음하고 있습니다. 우리는 하나님께서 약속하신 선물 가운데 첫 선물인 성령*을 받은 사람들입니다. 24우리는 이 희망 가운데서 구원을 받았습니다. 그러나 눈에 보이는 희망은 희망이 아닙니다. 어느 누가 이미 가진 것을 바라겠습니까? 25우리는 아직 가지지 못한 것을 바라기에, 간절한 마음으로 참을성 있게 그것을 기다립니다. 26이와 마찬가지로, 성령께서도 우리의 연약함을 돕고 계십니다. 우리는 무엇을 위해 기도해야 할지도 모릅니다. 그러나 성령님 자신이, 말로는 표현할 수 없을 만큼 깊은 신음 소리로 탄식하시며, 우리를 위해 하나님께 간절히 청해 주십니다. 27사람의 마음을 샅샅이 살피시는 하나님께서는 성령님의 마음을 다 아십니다. 성령님께서 하나님의 뜻에 따라 하나님의 백성을 위하여 기도해 주시기 때문입니다. 28우리는 모든 일에 있어서 하나님께서 당신을 사랑하는 사람들의 유익을 위하여 일하신다는 것을 압니다. 그들은 하나님의 계획에 따라 부르심을 받은 사람들입니다. 29하나님께서는 당신의 백성을 미리 아셨습니다. 그분은 그들이, 당신의 아들의 형상과 같은 모습으로 빚어지도록 미리 정해 놓으셨습니다. 그것은, 아드님(예수)께서 많은 형제자매들 가운데서 맏이*가 되게 하시려는 것이었습니다. 30하나님께서는 미리 정해 놓으신 사람들을 부르시고 부르신 사람들을 받아 주시며, 받아 주신 사람들을 영광스럽게 해 주셨습니다.
예수 그리스도 안에 있는 하나님의 사랑 31그렇다면 이런 일을 두고 우리가 무슨 말을 하겠습니까? 하나님이 우리 편이 되셨으니 누가 우리에게 맞설 수 있겠습니까? 32하나님께서는 당신의 아들도 아끼지 않으시고, 우리 모두를 위해 내주셨습니다. 그런 분께서 어찌 아들뿐 아니라 다른 모든 것을 우리에게 주시지 않겠습니까? 33누가 하나님께서 택하신 백성을 고소하겠습니까? 당신의 백성을 받아 주신 하나님께서 고소하시겠습니까? 34누가 하나님의 백성을 정죄하겠습니까? 그리스도 예수는 죽으셨을 뿐 아니라, 오히려 다시 살아나셔서 하나님의 오른편에 계시며, 우리를 위해 하나님께 간구해 주십니다. 그분이 우리를 고소하시겠습니까? 35그러니 누가 우리를 그리스도의 사랑에서 떼어 놓을 수 있겠습니까? 어떤 고난이나 어려움이나 박해*나 기근이나 헐벗음이나 위험이나 칼이 우리를 그리스도의 사랑에서 갈라 놓을 수 있겠습니까? 36성경*에 이렇게 쓰여 있지 않습니까?
“당신(하나님) 때문에 우리는 늘 죽음의 위험에 맞닥뜨립니다.
사람들은 우리를 마치 죽임을 당할 양처럼 하찮게 여깁니다.”시 44:22 37그러나 우리는 이 모든 어려움 속에서도, 우리를 사랑하신 그리스도의 도우심으로 완전한 승리를 거두고도 남습니다. 38나는 확신합니다. 죽음이나 삶, 천사들이나 다스리는 영들이나, 현재의 어느 것도, 미래의 그 무엇도, 어떤 능력도, 39하늘 위에 있는 어떤 것이나, 땅 아래에 있는 것이나, 하나님께서 만드신 어떤 것도, 그리스도 예수 우리 주 안에서 드러난 하나님의 사랑에서 우리를 갈라 놓을 수 없습니다. |
