Right With God1We have been made right with God because of our faith. So we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ. 2Through our faith, Christ has brought us into that blessing of God’s grace* that we now enjoy. And we are very happy because of the hope we have of sharing God’s glory*. 3And we are also happy with the troubles we have. Why are we happy with troubles? Because we know that these troubles make us more patient. 4And this patience is proof that we are strong. And this proof gives us hope. 5And this hope will never disappoint us. We know this because God has poured out his love to fill our hearts through the Holy Spirit* he gave us. 6Christ died for us when we were unable to help ourselves. We were living against God, but at just the right time Christ died for us. 7Very few people will die to save the life of someone else, even if it is for a good person. Someone might be willing to die for an especially good person. 8But Christ died for us while we were still sinners, and by this God showed how much he loves us. 9We have been made right with God by the blood sacrifice of Christ. So through Christ we will surely be saved from God’s anger. 10I mean that while we were God’s enemies, he made friends with us through his Son’s death. And the fact that we are now God’s friends makes it even more certain that he will save us through his Son’s life. 11And not only will we be saved, but we also rejoice right now in what God has done for us through our Lord Jesus Christ. It is because of Jesus that we are now God’s friends.
Adam and Christ 12Sin came into the world because of what one man did. And with sin came death. So this is why all people must die - because all people have sinned. 13Sin was in the world before the Law of Moses*. But God does not consider people guilty of sin if there is no law. 14But from the time of Adam to the time of Moses, everyone had to die. Adam died because he sinned by not obeying God’s command. But even those who did not sin that same way had to die.
That one man, Adam, can be compared to Christ, the one who was coming in the future. 15But God’s free gift is not like Adam’s sin. Many people died because of the sin of that one man. But the grace* that people received from God was much greater. Many received God’s gift of life by the grace of this other man, Jesus Christ. 16After Adam sinned once, he was judged guilty. But the gift of God is different. His free gift came after many sins, and it makes people right with him. 17One man sinned, and so death ruled all people because of that one man. But now some people accept God’s full grace and his great gift of being made right. Surely they will have true life and rule through the one man, Jesus Christ. 18So that one sin of Adam brought the punishment of death to all people. But in the same way, Christ did something so good that it makes all people right with God. And that brings them true life. 19One man disobeyed God and many became sinners. But in the same way, one man obeyed God and many will be made right. 20The law was brought in so that more people would sin the way Adam did. But where sin increased, there was even more of God’s grace. 21Sin once used death to rule us. But God gave us more of his grace so that grace could rule by making us right with him. And this brings us eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord. |

하나님과의 화해 1하나님께서는 믿음 때문에 우리를 받아 주셨습니다. 그러므로 우리는 우리 주 예수 그리스도를 통하여 하나님과 더불어 평화를 누립니다. 2우리는 그분을 통하여 지금 우리가 서 있는 이 은혜의 자리에 믿음으로 들어왔습니다. 그리고 하나님의 영광을 우리도 같이 누릴 수 있다는 희망이 있기에 기뻐합니다. 3더구나 우리는 어려움을 겪으면서도 기뻐합니다. 어려움을 겪노라면 인내하는 힘이 길러지고, 4인내는 인격을 형성하며, 인격은 희망을 갖게 한다는 것을 알기 때문입니다. 5이 희망은 우리를 실망시키지 않습니다. 그것은, 하나님께서 우리에게 주신 성령*을 통하여 당신의 사랑을 우리 마음속에 쏟아 부어 주셨기 때문입니다 . 6우리가 아직도 연약할 때에, 그리스도께서는 아주 적절한 시기에 악한 자들을 위하여 죽으셨습니다. 7의로운 사람을 위하여 죽을 사람은 아주 드뭅니다. 참으로 선한 사람을 위하여 감히 죽을 사람이 어쩌면 있을지 모르겠습니다. 8그러나 그리스도께서는, 우리가 아직 죄인이었을 때 우리를 위하여 죽으셨습니다. 이렇게 하심으로써 하나님께서는 우리에 대한 당신의 사랑을 나타내셨습니다. 9그러므로 이제 하나님께서 그리스도의 피를 통하여 우리를 받아 주셨으니, 우리가 그리스도를 통하여 하나님의 진노*에서 구원을 받으리라는 것이 더욱 확실합니다. 10우리가 하나님의 원수였을 때에도, 하나님께서는 당신의 아들의 죽음을 통해서 우리를 당신의 친구로 삼아 주셨습니다. 하물며 이제 우리를 친구로 삼아 주셨으니, 그리스도의 사심을 통해 우리를 구원해 주시리라는 것은 더욱 확실한 일이 아니겠습니까? 11그뿐만 아니라, 우리는 지금 하나님 안에서 사는 기쁨을 누리고 있습니다. 이 모든 것이 우리를 하나님의 친구가 되게 해 주신 우리 주 예수 그리스도의 덕분입니다.
아담과 그리스도 12그러므로, 한 사람(아담)을 통하여 죄가 세상에 들어오고, 그 죄를 통하여 죽음이 들어왔습니다. 마찬가지로 모든 사람이 죄를 지었으므로, 죽음이 모든 사람에게 왔습니다. 13율법을 주시기 전에도 죄는 세상에 있었습니다. 그러나 법이 없을 때에는, 죄에 관한 기록을 남겨 두지 않습니다. 14그럼에도 불구하고 아담의 시대에서부터 모세의 시대에 이르기까지 모든 사람이 죽었습니다. 아담은 하나님의 명령에 순종하지 않음으로써 죄를 지었기 때문에 죽었습니다. 그러나 아담과 같은 죄를 짓지 않은 사람들도 죽었습니다.
어떤 점에 있어서, 아담은 뒤에 오실 그리스도의 모형이었습니다. 15그러나 하나님께서 은혜를 베푸실 때에 생긴 일은, 한 사람이 죄를 지었을 때에 생긴 일과 같지 않습니다. 한 사람 아담의 죄 때문에 많은 사람이 죽었으나, 하나님의 은혜와 예수 그리스도 한 사람의 은혜로 말미암은 선물은, 많은 사람에게 더욱 풍성하게 흘러 넘쳤습니다. 16또한, 하나님의 선물은 한 사람이 지은 범죄의 결과와 같지 않습니다. 한 범죄에는 유죄 판결을 이끌어내는 심판이 뒤따랐지만, 많은 죄에는 무죄 판결을 이끌어내는 선물이 뒤따랐습니다. 17아담 한 사람이 죄를 범하였고, 그 한 사람으로 말미암아 죽음이 다스리게 되었습니다. 그렇다면, 이제 하나님의 풍성한 은혜를 받고 하나님께서 받아 주신 사람들이, 예수 그리스도 한 사람으로 말미암아 얼마나 더 살아서 다스리겠습니까! 18아담이 한 번 지은 범죄의 결과는 모든 사람이 유죄 판결을 받는 것이었습니다. 이와 마찬가지로 그리스도께서 행하신 한 번의 의로운 행위의 결과는, 하나님께서 모든 사람을 받아 주시고 그들에게 생명을 주신 것이었습니다. 19한 사람(아담)이 하나님께 순종하지 않았기 때문에 모든 사람이 죄인이 되었습니다. 이와 마찬가지로 한 사람(그리스도)이 하나님께 순종하였기 때문에, 하나님께서 많은 사람을 받아 주실 것입니다. 20율법이 들어오자 범죄가 늘어났습니다. 그러나 죄가 늘어나는 곳에 은혜가 더욱 풍성하였습니다. 21전에는 죄가 죽음을 통하여 다스렸습니다. 그러나 이제는 하나님의 은혜가 다스리시는데, 이 말은 하나님께서 거저 사람들을 받아주신다는 뜻입니다. 그 결과는 우리 주 예수 그리스도를 통한 영원한 생명입니다. |
