The Coming of the Holy Spirit1When the day of Pentecost* came, they were all together in one place. 2Suddenly a noise came from heaven. It sounded like a strong wind blowing. This noise filled the whole house where they were sitting. 3They saw something that looked like flames of fire. The flames were separated and stood over each person there. 4They were all filled with the Holy Spirit*, and they began to speak different languages. The Holy Spirit was giving them the power to do this. 5There were some godly Jews in Jerusalem at this time. They were from every country in the world. 6A large crowd came together because they heard the noise. They were surprised because, as the apostles* were speaking, everyone heard in their own language. 7They were all amazed at this. They did not understand how the apostles could do this. They said, “Look! These men we hear speaking are all from Galilee*. 8But we hear them in our own languages. How is this possible? We are from all these different places: 9Parthia, Media, Elam, Mesopotamia, Judea, Cappadocia, Pontus, Asia*, 10Phrygia, Pamphylia, Egypt, the areas of Libya near the city of Cyrene, Rome, 11Crete, and Arabia. Some of us were born Jews, and others have changed their religion to worship God like Jews. We are from these different countries, but we can hear these men in our own languages! We can all understand the great things they are saying about God.” 12The people were all amazed and confused. They asked each other, “What is happening?” 13But others were laughing at the apostles, saying they were drunk from too much wine.
Peter Speaks to the People 14Then Peter stood up with the other eleven apostles*. He spoke loudly so that all the people could hear. He said, “My Jewish brothers and all of you who live in Jerusalem, listen to me. I will tell you something you need to know. Listen carefully. 15These men are not drunk as you think; it’s only nine o’clock in the morning. 16But Joel the prophet* wrote about what you see happening here today. This is what he wrote: 17‘God says:
In the last days I will pour out my Spirit* on all people. Your sons and daughters will prophesy*. Your young men will see visions*. Your old men will have special dreams. 18In those days I will pour out my Spirit on my servants, men and women, and they will prophesy. 19I will work wonders* in the sky above. I will cause miraculous signs* on the earth below. There will be blood, fire, and thick smoke. 20The sun will be changed into darkness, and the moon will be as red as blood.
Then the great and glorious day of the Lord will come. 21And everyone who trusts in the Lord* will be saved.’* 22“My fellow Israelites*, listen to these words: Jesus from Nazareth was a very special man. God clearly showed this to you. He proved it by the miracles*, wonders, and miraculous signs he did through Jesus. You all saw these things, so you know this is true. 23Jesus was handed over to you, and you killed him. With the help of evil men, you nailed him to a cross. But God knew all this would happen. It was his plan - a plan he made long ago. 24Jesus suffered the pain of death, but God made him free. He raised him from death. There was no way for death to hold him. 25David* said this about him:
‘I saw the Lord before me always; he is at my right side to keep me safe. 26So my heart is happy, and the words I speak are words of joy.
Yes, even my body will live with hope, 27because you will not leave me in the place of death*. You will not let the body of your Holy One rot in the grave. 28You taught me how to live. You will come close to me and give me great joy.’* 29“My brothers, I can tell you for sure about David, our great ancestor. He died, was buried, and his tomb* is still here with us today. 30He was a prophet and knew something that God had said. God had promised David that someone from his own family would sit on David’s throne as king.* 31David knew this before it happened. That is why he said this about that future king:
‘He was not left in the place of death.
His body did not rot in the grave.’ David was talking about the Messiah* rising from death. 32So Jesus is the one God raised from death. We are all witnesses of this. We saw him. 33Jesus was lifted up to heaven. Now he is with God, at God’s right side. The Father has given the Holy Spirit to him, as he promised. So Jesus has now poured out that Spirit. This is what you see and hear. 34David was not the one who was lifted up to heaven. David himself said, ‘The Lord God said to my Lord:
Sit at my right side, 35until I put your enemies under your power*.’* 36“So, all the people of Israel* should know this for certain: God has made Jesus to be Lord and Messiah. He is the man you nailed to the cross!” 37When the people heard this, they felt very, very sorry. They asked Peter and the other apostles, “Brothers, what should we do?” 38Peter said to them, “Change your hearts and lives and be baptized*, each one of you, in the name of Jesus Christ. Then God will forgive your sins, and you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. 39This promise is for you. It is also for your children and for the people who are far away. It is for everyone the Lord our God calls to himself.” 40Peter warned them with many other words; he begged them, “Save yourselves from the evil of the people who live now!” 41Then those who accepted what Peter said were baptized. On that day about 3000 people were added to the group of believers.
The Believers Share 42The believers spent their time listening to the teaching of the apostles*. They shared everything with each other. They ate* together and prayed together. 43Many wonders* and miraculous signs* were happening through the apostles, and everyone felt great respect for God. 44All the believers stayed together and shared everything. 45They sold their land and the things they owned. Then they divided the money and gave it to those who needed it. 46The believers shared a common purpose, and every day they spent much of their time together in the Temple* area. They also ate together in their homes. They were happy to share their food and ate with joyful hearts. 47The believers praised God and were respected by all the people. More and more people were being saved every day, and the Lord was adding them to their group. |

성령이 오시다 1오순절*이 되어 믿는 이들이 한 곳에 모두 모여 있었다. 2그때 갑자기 하늘에서 세찬 바람소리 같은 큰 소리가 들렸다. 그들이 앉아 있는 집이 온통 그 소리로 가득 찼다. 3그들은 혀같이 생긴 불길을 보았다. 그 불길은 사방으로 퍼져 나가서, 그곳에 있는 각 사람 위에 내렸다. 4그러자 그들은 모두 성령으로 가득 차서, 성령께서 주신 능력에 따라서 여러 다른 언어로 말하기 시작하였다. 5그 무렵 예루살렘에는 세계 모든 나라에서 모여든 신앙 깊은 유대 사람들이 머물고 있었다. 6그들 가운데 많은 사람이 이 소리를 듣고 모여들었다. 그들은 매우 놀랐다. 믿는 이들이 하는 말을 각기 자기 나라 말로 알아들을 수 있었기 때문이었다. 7그들은 이 일을 보고 놀라서 신기하게 여기며 말하였다. “지금 말하고 있는 이 사람들은 모두 갈릴리 사람들이 아닌가! 8그런데 이 사람들이 하는 말을, 우리는 각기 우리가 태어난 나라 말로 듣고 있소. 어떻게 이럴 수가 있소? 9우리는 바대 사람과 메대 사람과 엘람 사람이고, 메소포타미아와 유대와 갑바도기아와 본도와 아시아*와, 10브루기아와 밤빌리아와, 이집트와 구레네에 가까운 리비아에 사는 사람들이고, 나그네로 머물고 있는 로마 사람과, 11유대 사람과 유대교로 개종*한 사람과, 크레테 사람과 아라비아 사람이오. 그런데 하나님께서 하신 큰일들을 전하는 이 사람들의 말을 우리는 저마다 자기 나라 말로 듣고 있소.” 12사람들은 모두 놀라 어리둥절해서 서로에게 물었다. “이게 도대체 어떻게 된 일이오?” 13그러나 어떤 사람들은 그들을 비웃으며 이렇게 말하였다. “이 사람들은 술을 너무 마셔서 취한 것이오.”
베드로, 오순절에 설교하다 14그러자 베드로가 다른 열한 사도와 함께 일어서서, 크고 똑똑한 목소리로 무리에게 말하였다. “유대 형제 여러분과 예루살렘에 살고 있는 모든 분들, 내 말을 귀담아 들으십시오. 여러분은 이것을 꼭 아셔야 합니다. 15지금은 겨우 아침 아홉 시입니다. 그러니 이 사람들은 여러분이 생각하는 것처럼 술에 취한 것이 아닙니다. 16여러분이 지금 보고 있는 것은, 예언자* 요엘이 말한 그대로입니다. 17’하나님께서 말씀하신다:
마지막 날에 18내가 모든 사람에게 내 영을 쏟아 부어 주리니,
너희의 아들딸들이 예언을 하고 너희의 젊은이들이 환상을 보며 너희 늙은이들이 꿈을 꾸리라.
그때에 나는 내 남녀 종들에게 내 영을 쏟아 부어 주리니,
그들이 예언을 하리라. 19나는 하늘에서 놀라운 일들을 펼쳐 보이고 땅 위에서 기적을 일으키리니,
그것은 피와 불과 자욱한 연기이다. 20영광스러운 주의 날이 오기에 앞서,
해가 어두워지고 달이 피처럼 붉어지리라. 21그때에 주를 믿는다고 고백하는* 모든 사람이 구원을 얻으리라.’욜 2:28-32 22이스라엘 형제 여러분, 내 말을 들으십시오. 나사렛 사람 예수는 매우 특별한 분이셨습니다. 하나님께서는, 당신이 그분을 보내셨다는 것을 분명히 보여 주시려고, 여러분 가운데서 그분을 통하여 여러 가지 기적과 놀라운 일들과 표적*을 나타내 보이셨습니다. 여러분 자신이 이 사실을 잘 알고 있습니다. 23이 예수는, 하나님께서 미리 세우신 계획에 따라서 여러분의 손에 넘겨졌습니다. 그리고 여러분은 모세의 법을 모르는 이방 사람*들의 손을 빌려서, 그분을 십자가에 못 박아 죽였습니다. 24그러나 하나님께서는 그분을 죽음의 고통에서 풀어 다시 살리셨습니다. 죽음은 예수를 붙들어 둘 수 없었습니다. 25다윗은 예수를 두고 이렇게 말하였습니다.
‘나는 언제나 내 앞에 계시는 주(하나님)를 뵈었다. 주께서 내 오른쪽에 계시니 나는 흔들리지 않을 것이다. 26그러기에 내 마음은 기쁘고 내 혀는 즐거워 노래한다.
이 몸 또한 희망 속에 살리니, 27주께서 내 영혼을 저승*에 버려 두지 않으시고,
주의 ‘거룩한 분’의 몸을 썩지 않게 하실 것이기 때문이다. 28주께서 내게 생명의 길을 알려 주셨으며,
주 앞에서 나를 기쁨으로 채워 주실 것이다.’시 16:8-11 29형제 여러분, 나는 우리 조상 다윗*이 죽어서 땅에 묻혔다는 것을 자신 있게 말할 수 있습니다. 그 무덤은 지금도 우리 가운데 남아 있습니다. 30다윗은 예언자*였습니다. 그리고 하나님께서 자기 후손 가운데 한 사람을 왕으로 세워 주겠다고 하신 맹세를 알고 있었습니다. 31그래서 다윗은 앞을 내다보고, 그리스도*께서 죽었다가 다시 살아나실 것에 대하여 말한 것입니다. 그는 그리스도*께서 저승*에 버려지지 않을 것이며, 그분의 몸이 썩지 않으리라고 말하였습니다. 32하나님께서 이 예수를 죽음에서 다시 살리셨습니다. 우리 모두가 이 일의 증인입니다. 33하나님께서는 이 예수를 높이 올려 하나님의 오른편에 앉히시고, 약속하신 성령을 예수께 주셨습니다. 그래서 예수께서는 그 성령을 우리에게 부어 주셨습니다. 여러분이 지금 보고 듣는 것이 바로 그 성령 때문입니다. 34-35다윗은 하늘에 올라가지 않았습니다. 하늘로 들려 올라가신 분은 예수였습니다. 그러나 다윗 자신이 이렇게 말하였습니다.
‘주(하나님)께서 내 주께 말씀하셨다.
내가 네 원수들을 네게 무릎 꿇게 할 때까지* 너는 내 오른편에 앉아 있어라.’시 110:1 36그러니 모든 이스라엘 백성은 이것을 분명히 알아야 합니다. 하나님께서는 여러분이 십자가에 못 박은 이 예수를 주와 그리스도*가 되게 하셨습니다.” 37사람들은 그 말에 마음이 찔려서 베드로와 다른 사도*들에게 물었다. “형제여, 우리가 어떻게 해야겠습니까?” 38베드로가 그 사람들에게 말하였다. “회개하십시오. 그리고 여러분은 모두 죄를 용서받기 위해서, 예수 그리스도의 이름으로 세례*를 받으십시오. 그러면 성령을 선물로 받게 될 것입니다. 39이 약속은 여러분에게 하신 약속입니다. 그리고 여러분의 자녀와, 먼 곳에 사는 사람들에게도 하신 약속입니다. 곧 우리 주 하나님께서 부르시는 모든 사람에게 하신 약속입니다.” 40베드로는 여러 가지 다른 말로 사람들에게 증언하며, “이 시대의 악한 사람들에게 내려질 벌에서 여러분 자신을 구하십시오!” 하고 간곡히 권하였다. 41베드로의 말을 받아들인 사람들은 세례를 받았다. 그날 예수를 따르는 사람의 수가 삼천 명이나 늘어났다. 42그들은 사도들의 가르침을 배우고, 서로 사귀고, 함께 빵을 떼고*, 함께 기도하는 일에 힘썼다.
믿는 이들이 가진 것을 나누며 살다 43사도들을 통해서 놀라운 일들과 기적이 나타나자, 모든 사람이 하나님을 두려워하는 마음을 가지게 되었다. 44믿는 이들은 끊임없이 함께 모이고 가진 것을 모두 나누었다. 45그들은 돈이 필요한 사람이 생기면, 땅과 가진 것을 팔아서 모두에게 나누어 주곤 하였다. 46믿는 이들은 날마다 성전 뜰에서 함께 모였다. 그리고 이 집 저 집에서 빵을 떼면서*, 기쁘고 신실한 마음으로 같이 음식을 먹고, 47하나님을 찬양하였다. 사람들이 모두 그들을 좋아하였다. 주께서는 구원받는 사람을 날마다 더하여 주셨다. |
