John Sends Men to Ask Jesus a Question (Lk. 7:18-35)1When Jesus finished these instructions for his twelve followers, he left there. He went to the towns in Galilee to teach the people and tell them God’s message. 2When John was in prison, he heard about the things that were happening - things the Messiah* would do. So he sent some of his followers to Jesus. 3They asked him, “Are you the one we have been expecting, or should we wait for someone else?” 4Jesus answered, “Go tell John what you have heard and seen: 5The blind can see. The crippled can walk. People with leprosy* are healed. The deaf can hear. The dead are brought back to life. And the Good News* is being told to the poor. 6Great blessings belong to those who don’t have a problem accepting me.” 7When John’s followers left, Jesus began talking to the people about John. He said, “What did you people go out to the desert to see? Someone who is weak, like a stem of grass* blowing in the wind? 8Really, what did you expect to see? Someone dressed in fine clothes? Of course not. People who wear fine clothes are all in kings’ palaces. 9So what did you go out to see? A prophet*? Yes, John is a prophet*. But I tell you, he is more than that. 10This Scripture* was written about him:
‘Listen! I will send my messenger ahead of you.
He will prepare the way for you.’* 11“The truth is that John the Baptizer* is greater than anyone who has ever come into this world. But even the least important person in God’s kingdom* is greater than John. 12Since the time John the Baptizer came until now, God’s kingdom has been going forward strongly*. And people have been trying to take control of it by force. 13Before John came, the Law of Moses* and all the prophets told about the things that would happen. 14And if you believe what they said, then John is Elijah*. He is the one they said would come. 15You people who hear me, listen! 16“What can I say about the people who live today? What are they like? The people today are like children sitting in the marketplace. One group of children calls to the other group, 17‘We played flute music for you, but you did not dance;
we sang a funeral song, but you were not sad.’ 18Why do I say people are like that? Because John came, not eating like other people or drinking wine, and people say, ‘He has a demon* inside him.’ 19The Son of Man* came eating and drinking, and people say, ‘Look at him! He eats too much and drinks too much wine. He’s a friend of tax collectors* and other sinners.’ But wisdom is shown to be right by what it does.”
Jesus Warns People Who Refuse to Believe (Lk. 10:13-15) 20Then Jesus criticized the cities where he did most of his miracles*. He criticized these cities because the people there did not change their lives and stop sinning. 21Jesus said, “It will be bad for you Chorazin*! It will be bad for you Bethsaida*! I did many miracles in you. If these same miracles had happened in Tyre* and Sidon*, the people there would have changed their lives a long time ago. They would have worn sackcloth* and put ashes on themselves to show that they were sorry for their sins. 22But I tell you, on the day of judgment it will be worse for you than for Tyre and Sidon. 23“And you, Capernaum*, will you be lifted up to heaven? No! You will be thrown down to the place of death. I did many miracles in you. If these same miracles had happened in Sodom*, the people there would have stopped sinning, and it would still be a city today. 24But I tell you, it will be worse for you in the day of judgment than for Sodom.”
Jesus Offers Rest to His People (Lk. 10:21-22) 25Then Jesus said, “I praise you, Father, Lord of heaven and earth. I am thankful that you have hidden these things from those who are so wise and so smart. But you have shown them to people who are like little children. 26Yes, Father, you did this because it’s what you really wanted to do. 27“My Father has given me everything. No one knows the Son - only the Father knows the Son. And no one knows the Father - only the Son knows the Father. And the only people who will know about the Father are those the Son chooses to tell. 28“Come to me all of you who are tired from the heavy burden you have been forced to carry. I will give you rest. 29Accept my teaching*. Learn from me. I am gentle and humble in spirit. And you will be able to get some rest. 30Yes, the teaching that I ask you to accept is easy. The load I give you to carry is light.” |

예수와 세례자 요한 (눅 7:18-35) 1예수께서 열두 제자에게 이렇게 지시하신 뒤에 길을 떠나, 갈릴리의 여러 마을을 두루 다니며 가르치고 기쁜 소식*을 전하셨다. 2세례자 요한*은 감옥에 갇혀 있었다. 그는 그리스도께서 하시는 일에 관하여 듣고, 자기 제자들을 예수께 보내어 여쭙게 하였다. 3”당신이 오시기로 되어 있는 그분이십니까? 아니면 우리가 다른 분을 더 기다려야 합니까?” 4예수께서 대답하셨다. “너희가 보고 들은 것을 요한에게 가서 말해 주어라. 5눈 먼 사람이 보게 되고, 다리를 절던 사람이 제대로 걷게 되고, 나병*에 걸린 사람이 깨끗이 낫고, 귀먹은 사람이 듣고, 죽은 사람이 살아나고, 가난한 사람에게 기쁜 소식*이 전해지고 있다고 말해 주어라. 6내가 하는 이런 일 때문에 나를 거부하지 않은 사람은 복이 있다.” 7요한의 제자들이 떠나자 예수께서 그 자리에 있는 사람들에게 요한에 대해 말씀하기 시작하셨다. “너희가 무엇을 보러 광야에 나갔느냐? 바람에 흔들리는 갈대*를 보러 갔더냐? 8아니면 무엇을 보러 나갔더냐? 화려한 옷을 입은 사람들을 보러 갔더냐? 화려한 옷을 입은 사람들은 왕궁에 있다. 9그러면 무엇을 보러 나갔더냐? 예언자를 보러 갔더냐? 그렇다. 내가 분명히 말하거니와 너희가 본 요한은 예언자보다 더 큰 사람이다. 10요한에 대해 성경에 이렇게 쓰여 있다.
‘보아라! 내가 내 심부름꾼을 너보다 먼저 보내리니,
그가 네 길을 미리 준비하리라.’말 3:1 11진실로 내가 너희에게 말한다. 이제까지 태어난 사람 가운데서 세례자 요한보다 큰 인물은 없었다. 그러나 하늘나라에서는 가장 작은 사람이라도 세례자 요한보다 크다. 12세례자 요한의 때부터 지금까지 하늘나라는 폭행을 당해 왔다.* 그리고 폭력을 쓰는 사람들이 그것을 힘으로 빼앗아 차지한다. 13요한이 오기까지 모든 예언서들과 모세의 율법서는 지금의 이 새로운 시대를 기대하며 쓰였다. 14너희가 율법과 예언자의 말을 믿는다면, 요한이 이미 오기로 예언된 엘리야*라는 사실을 알 것이다. 15들을 귀가 있는 사람은 들어라. 16내가 이 시대 사람들을 어디에 비유할 수 있겠느냐? 그들은 마치 장터에 앉아 있는 아이들과 같다. 그 아이들이 다른 아이들을 소리쳐 부른다. 17그러고는 이렇게 말한다.
‘우리가 너희를 위해 피리를 불었는데도 너희는 춤을 추지 않더구나!
우리가 슬픈 노래를 불렀는데도 너희는 슬퍼하지 않더구나!’ 18세례자 요한은 사람들과 어울려 먹지도 마시지도 않았다. 그러자 사람들은 요한을 두고 ‘그 사람은 귀신이 들렸다!’ 하더니, 19사람의 아들*이 와서 먹기도 하고 마시기도 하니, ‘보아라, 저 사람은 즐겨 먹고 마시며, 세무원*과 죄인*들과만 어울리는구나!’ 하고 말한다. 그러나 지혜는 그것이 하는 일로써 그 옳음이 증명된다.”
믿음 없는 사람들에게 경고하시다 (눅 10:13-15) 20예수께서 기적을 가장 많이 보이신 마을의 사람들이 회개하지 않자 크게 꾸짖으셨다. 21예수께서 말씀하셨다. “고라신*아, 네게 화가 미칠 것이다! 벳새다*야, 네게 화가 미칠 것이다! 내가 너희에게 베푼 기적들을 두로와 시돈*에서 행하였더라면, 그곳 사람들은 이미 오래 전에 죄를 뉘우치고 베옷을 입고 재를 뒤집어썼을 것이다.* 22내가 너희에게 말한다. 심판 날에 두로와 시돈이 너희보다 가벼운 벌을 받을 것이다. 23가버나움아, 네가 하늘까지 치솟을 성싶으냐? 너는 지옥으로 떨어질 것이다! 내가 네게 베푼 기적들을 소돔에서 행하였더라면, 소돔은 지금까지 남아 있을 것이다! 24내가 너희에게 말한다. 심판 날에 소돔 사람들이 너희보다 가벼운 벌을 받을 것이다!”
당신의 사람들에게 와서 쉬라고 말씀하시다 (눅 10:21-22) 25그러고 나서 예수께서 이렇게 말씀하셨다. “하늘과 땅의 주이신 아버지, 감사합니다. 당신께서는 이런 일들을, 지혜롭고 똑똑한 사람들에게는 감추시고, 어린아이와 같은 사람들에게는 보여 주셨습니다. 26그렇습니다, 아버지. 일이 이렇게 되는 것은 아버지께서 바라시는 것이었습니다.” 27”내 아버지께서는 내게 모든 것을 맡겨 주셨다. 아버지밖에는 아들을 아는 이가 없다. 그리고 아들과, 아들이 아버지를 보여 주기로 한 사람들밖에는 아버지를 아는 이가 없다. 28지치고 무거운 짐을 진 사람들아, 내게로 오너라. 내가 너희를 쉬게 해 주겠다. 29내 멍에를 받아 짊어져라. 그리고 내게서 배워라. 나는 마음이 부드럽고 겸손하니, 너희의 영혼이 편안히 쉴 수 있을 것이다. 30내가 너희에게 지워주는 멍에는 편하고, 짐은 가볍다.” |
