| The New Jerusalem1Then I saw a new heaven and a new earth. The first heaven and the first earth had disappeared. Now there was no sea. 2And I saw the holy city, the new Jerusalem*, coming down out of heaven from God. It was prepared like a bride dressed for her husband. 3I heard a loud voice from the throne. It said, “Now God’s home is with people. He will live with them. They will be his people. God himself will be with them and will be their God. 4He will wipe away every tear from their eyes. There will be no more death, sadness, crying, or pain. All the old ways are gone.” 5The one who was sitting on the throne said, “Look, I am making everything new!” Then he said, “Write this, because these words are true and can be trusted.” 6The one on the throne said to me, “It is finished! I am the Alpha and the Omega*, the Beginning and the End. I will give free water from the spring of the water of life to anyone who is thirsty. 7All those who win the victory will receive all this. And I will be their God, and they will be my children. 8But those who are cowards, those who refuse to believe, those who do terrible things, those who kill, those who sin sexually, those who do evil magic, those who worship idols*, and those who tell lies - they will all have a place in the lake of burning sulfur. This is the second death.” 9One of the seven angels came to me. This was one of the angels who had the seven bowls full of the seven last plagues. The angel said, “Come with me. I will show you the bride, the wife of the Lamb*.” 10The angel carried me away by the Spirit* to a very large and high mountain. The angel showed me the holy city, Jerusalem. The city was coming down out of heaven from God. 11The city was shining with the glory* of God. It was shining bright like a very expensive jewel, like a jasper. It was clear as crystal. 12The city had a large, high wall with twelve gates. There were twelve angels at the gates. On each gate was written the name of one of the twelve tribes of Israel*. 13There were three gates on the east, three gates on the north, three gates on the south, and three gates on the west. 14The walls of the city were built on twelve foundation stones. On the stones were written the names of the twelve apostles* of the Lamb. 15The angel who talked with me had a measuring rod made of gold. The angel had this rod to measure the city, its gates, and its wall. 16The city was built in a square. Its length was equal to its width. The angel measured the city with the rod. The city was 12,000 stadia* long, 12,000 stadia wide, and 12,000 stadia high. 17The angel also measured the wall. It was 144 cubits* high. (The angel was using the same measurement that people use.) 18The wall was made of jasper. The city was made of pure gold, as pure as glass. 19The foundation stones of the city walls had every kind of expensive jewels in them. The first foundation stone was jasper, the second was sapphire, the third was chalcedony, the fourth was emerald, 20the fifth was onyx, the sixth was carnelian, the seventh was yellow quartz, the eighth was beryl, the ninth was topaz, the tenth was chrysoprase, the eleventh was jacinth, and the twelfth was amethyst. 21The twelve gates were twelve pearls. Each gate was made from one pearl. The street of the city was made of pure gold, as clear as glass. 22I did not see a temple in the city. The Lord God All-Powerful and the Lamb were the city’s temple. 23The city did not need the sun or the moon to shine on it. The glory of God gave the city light. The Lamb was the city’s lamp. 24The peoples of the world will walk by the light given by the Lamb. The rulers of the earth will bring their glory into the city. 25The city’s gates will never close on any day, because there is no night there. 26The greatness and the honor of the nations will be brought into the city. 27Nothing unclean will ever enter the city. No one who does shameful things or tells lies will ever enter the city. Only those whose names are written in the Lamb’s book of life will enter the city. |

| 새 예루살렘 1그때 나는 새 하늘과 새 땅을 보았습니다. 첫째 하늘과 첫째 땅은 지나가 버렸고, 바다도 없었습니다. 2나는 거룩한 도성, 곧 새 예루살렘*이 하나님께로부터 하늘에서 내려오는 것을 보았습니다. 그것은 남편을 맞으려는 신부처럼 아름답게 차려입고 있었습니다. 3그리고 나는 보좌에서 나는 큰 목소리가 이렇게 말하는 것을 들었습니다. “이제 하나님의 집은 사람들이 사는 곳에 있으니, 하나님께서 그들과 함께 사실 것이다. 그들은 하나님의 백성이 되고, 하나님께서 그들과 함께하시며, 그들의 하나님이 되실 것이다. 4하나님께서 그들의 눈에서 모든 눈물을 닦아 주실 것이다. 더는 죽음도 슬픔도 울음도 고통도 없을 것이다. 이전 세상과 그 안에 있던 이러한 악들이 영원히 사라져 버렸기 때문이다.” 5보좌에 앉으신 그분께서 말씀하셨습니다. “보아라! 내가 모든 것을 새롭게 만든다!” 그리고 이렇게 말씀하셨습니다. “이 말들은 참되고 믿을 수 있으니 받아 적어라.” 6그분께서 내게 말씀하셨습니다. “이제 다 이루어졌다! 나는 알파와 오메가*이며 시작과 끝이다. 목마른 사람에게는 내가 생명수 샘에서 나는 물을 거저 주어 마시게 하겠다. 7이기는 사람은 이 모든 것을 물려받을 것이며, 나는 그의 하나님이 되고, 그는 내 자녀가 될 것이다. 8그러나 비겁한 자들과 신실치 못한 자들과 혐오스러운 자들과 살인자들과 부도덕한 성 관계를 가지는 자들과 마술쟁이들과 우상*을 섬기는 자들과 모든 거짓말쟁이들은 유황이 타오르는 불 못에 들어갈 것이다. 이것이 둘째 죽음이다.” 9마지막 일곱 재앙으로 가득 채워진 일곱 대접을 가진 일곱 천사들 가운데 한 천사가 내게 와서 말하였습니다. “나를 따라오너라. 어린양의 아내인 신부를 네게 보여 주겠다.” 10그는 성령*의 힘으로 나를 크고 높은 산으로 데리고 가서, 거룩한 도성 예루살렘이 하나님께로부터 하늘에서 내려오는 것을 보여 주었습니다. 11그것은 하나님의 영광으로 빛나고 있었는데, 그 찬란한 빛은 마치 희귀한 보석과 같고 벽옥과 같고, 맑기는 수정과 같았습니다. 12그 도성에는 열두 개의 문이 있는 크고 높은 성벽이 있었습니다. 그 열두 문에는 열두 천사가 지키고 있었고, 이스라엘 열두 가문의 이름이 쓰여 있었습니다. 13그 대문들은 동쪽에 셋, 북쪽에 셋, 남쪽에 셋, 서쪽에 셋이 있었습니다. 14그 도성의 성벽은 열두 개의 주춧돌 위에 세워져 있었고, 그 주춧돌 위에는 어린양의 열두 사도의 이름이 있었습니다. 15나에게 말하던 천사는 그 도성과 그 문들과 성벽을 재려고 금으로 된 측량자를 들고 있었습니다. 16도성은 정사각형처럼 짜여 있어서 길이와 너비가 같았습니다. 그가 측량자로 도성을 재니, 길이와 너비와 높이가 똑같이 만 이천 스타디온*이었습니다. 17또 그가 성벽을 재어 보니, 그 두께*가 사람의 치수로 백사십사 규빗*이었습니다. 천사는 사람의 치수로 재고 있었습니다. 18성벽은 벽옥으로 쌓았고, 도성은 수정처럼 맑은 순금으로 되어 있었습니다. 19그 성벽의 주춧돌들은 온갖 귀한 보석들로 장식되어 있었습니다. 첫째 주춧돌은 벽옥, 둘째는 사파이어, 셋째는 옥수, 넷째는 에메랄드였습니다. 20다섯째는 홍마노, 여섯째는 홍옥수, 일곱째는 황보석, 여덟째는 녹주석이었습니다. 아홉째는 황옥, 열째는 녹옥수, 열한째는 청옥, 열두째는 자수정이었습니다. 21문 하나가 진주 하나로 만들어져 있었으므로, 열두 개의 문은 곧 열두 개의 진주였습니다. 도성의 큰 길은 수정처럼 맑은 순금으로 만들어져 있었습니다. 22나는 그 도성에서 성전을 볼 수 없었습니다. 그것은 전능하신 주 하나님과 어린양(예수)이 도성의 성전이시기 때문입니다. 23그 도성에는 해나 달이 비칠 필요가 없습니다. 하나님의 영광이 도성을 환하게 밝혀 주고, 어린양(예수)이 도성의 등불이기 때문입니다. 24뭇 민족이 그 빛 가운데 걸어 다닐 것이며, 땅의 왕들은 자기들의 보화를 가지고 그 도성으로 들어올 것입니다. 25그 도성에는 밤이 없으므로 문을 닫는 날이 없을 것입니다. 26그리고 사람들은 여러 민족의 금은보화를 가지고 그 도성으로 들어올 것입니다. 27부정한 것은 아무것도 그곳에 들어가지 못하고, 부끄러운 짓을 하거나 속이는 사람도 결코 들어가지 못합니다. 다만 자기 이름이 어린양의 생명책에 올라 있는 사람들만 들어갈 수 있습니다. |
