1Greetings from Peter, an apostle* of Jesus Christ. ve become a judge. To God’s chosen people who are away from their homes - people scattered all over the areas of Pontus, Galatia, Cappadocia, Asia, and Bithynia. 2God planned long ago to choose you and to make you his holy people*, which is the Spirit’s* work. God wanted you to obey him and to be made clean by the blood sacrifice* of Jesus Christ. ve become a judge. I pray that you will enjoy more and more of God’s grace* and peace.
A Living Hope 3Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ. God has great mercy, and because of his mercy he gave us a new life. This new life brings us a living hope through Jesus Christ’s resurrection from death. 4Now we wait to receive the blessings God has for his children. These blessings are kept for you in heaven. They cannot be ruined or be destroyed or lose their beauty. 5God’s power protects you through your faith, and it keeps you safe until your salvation comes. That salvation is ready to be given to you at the end of time. 6I know the thought of that is exciting, even if you must suffer through different kinds of troubles for a short time now. 7These troubles test your faith and prove that it is pure. And such faith is worth more than gold. Gold can be proved to be pure by fire, but gold will ruin. When your faith is proven to be pure, the result will be praise and glory* and honor when Jesus Christ comes. 8You have not seen Christ, but still you love him. You can’t see him now, but you believe in him. You are filled with a wonderful and heavenly joy that cannot be explained. 9Your faith has a goal, and you are reaching that goal - your salvation. 10The prophets* studied carefully and tried to learn about this salvation. They spoke about the grace* that was coming to you. 11The Spirit* of Christ was in those prophets. And the Spirit was telling about the sufferings that would happen to Christ and about the glory that would come after those sufferings. The prophets tried to learn about what the Spirit was showing them - when it would happen and what the world would be like at that time. 12It was made clear to them that their service was not for themselves. They were serving you when they told about the things you have now heard. You heard them from those who told you the Good News* with the help of the Holy Spirit sent from heaven. Even the angels would like very much to know more about these things you were told.
A Call to Holy Living 13So prepare your minds for service. With complete self-control put all your hope in the grace* that will be yours when Jesus Christ comes. 14In the past you did not have the understanding you have now, so you did the evil things you wanted to do. But now you are children of God, so you should obey him and not live the way you did before. 15Be holy* in everything you do, just as God is holy. He is the one who chose you. 16In the Scriptures* God says, “Be holy, because I am holy.”* 17You pray to God and call him Father, but he will judge everyone the same way - by what they do. So while you are visiting here on earth, you should live with respect for God. 18You know that in the past the way you were living was useless. It was a way of life you learned from those who lived before you. But you were saved from that way of living. You were bought, but not with things that ruin like gold or silver. 19You were bought with the precious blood of Christ’s death. He was a pure and perfect sacrificial Lamb*. 20Christ was chosen before the world was made, but he was shown to the world in these last times for you. 21You believe in God through Christ. God is the one who raised him from death and gave honor to him. So your faith and your hope are in God. 22You have made yourselves pure by obeying the truth. Now you can have true love for your brothers and sisters. So love each other deeply - with all your heart. 23You have been born again. This new life did not come from something that dies. It came from something that cannot die. You were born again through God’s life-giving message* that lasts forever. 24The Scriptures say,
“Our lives are like the grass of spring, and any glory* we enjoy is like the beauty of a wildflower.
The grass dries up and dies, and the flower falls to the ground. 25But the word of the Lord lasts forever.”* And that word is the Good News* that was told to you. |

1예수 그리스도의 사도*인 나 베드로가 하나님의 택하심을 받은 백성이며, 본도와 갈라디아와 갑바도기아와 아시아와 비두니아에 흩어져서 나그네로 살고 있는 여러분에게 이 편지를 씁니다. 2여러분은 하나님 아버지께서 미리 세우신 계획에 따라 택하심을 받았고, 성령*으로 거룩하게 된 사람들입니다. 그리하여 여러분은 예수 그리스도께 순종하게 되었으며, 그분의 피로 죄 씻김을 받았습니다. 하나님의 은혜와 평화가 여러분에게 가득하기를 빕니다.
살아 있는 희망 3우리 주 예수 그리스도의 아버지 하나님께 찬양을 드립시다. 하나님은 아주 자비로우신 분이십니다. 그래서 우리를 거듭나게 해 주셨습니다. 이제 우리는 산 희망을 안고 살아갑니다. 하나님께서 예수 그리스도를 죽은 자들 가운데서 다시 살려 주셨기 때문입니다. 4또 하나님께서는 결코 썩을 수도 없고, 더러워질 수도 없고, 낡아 없어질 수도 없는 유산을 받게 해 주셨습니다. 그 유산은 여러분을 위하여 하늘에 마련되어 있습니다. 5하나님께서는 여러분의 믿음을 보시고 당신의 능력으로 여러분을 보호하고 계십니다. 그리고 여러분이 구원을 받을 때까지 보호해 주실 것입니다. 그 구원은 마지막 때에 나타나기로 되어 있습니다. 6그러므로 크게 기뻐하십시오. 비록 여러분이 지금은 온갖 시련을 겪으면서 슬퍼할 수밖에 없지만 기뻐하십시오. 7이러한 시련이 온 것은 여러분의 믿음이 순수하다는 것을 드러내려는 것입니다. 여러분의 믿음은, 불에 단련되었으나 결국은 없어지고 마는 금보다 귀합니다. 여러분의 믿음이 순수하다는 것이 증명되면, 여러분은 예수 그리스도께서 나타나실 때에 하나님에게서 칭찬과 영광과 명예를 받을 것입니다. 8여러분은 그리스도를 뵌 적이 없으면서도 그분을 사랑합니다. 지금 그분을 뵐 수 없으면서도 그분을 믿습니다. 그리고 여러분은 말로 다 표현할 수 없는 영광스러운 기쁨으로 가득 차 있습니다. 9그것은 여러분이 믿음의 목표인 영혼의 구원을 받았기 때문입니다. 10이 구원은 예언자*들이 좀 더 알아보려고 애쓰던 것입니다. 그들은 하나님께서 여러분에게 이 구원을 선물로 주시리라고 예언하였습니다. 그러나 그들에게는 아직도 많은 의문이 남아 있었습니다. 11그리스도의 영*께서 그 예언자들 안에 계셨습니다. 그분께서 그리스도가 고난을 당하실 것과 그 뒤에 큰 영광을 받으실 것을 그들에게 일러 주고 계셨습니다. 그들은 그 말씀이 무슨 뜻인지 알아보려고 노력하였습니다. 누가 그리스도이시며, 이런 일이 언제 일어날 것인가를 정확히 알아내려고 열심히 찾고 있었던 것입니다. 12그들은 진리를 찾는 그 일이 자신들을 위한 것이 아니라 여러분을 위한 것임을 하나님의 계시로 알았습니다. 그들이 말한 것을 여러분이 들었으니, 그들이 한 일은 결국 여러분을 위한 것입니다. 그 진리의 기쁜 소식*을 여러분에게 전한 사람들이 있었는데, 그것은 하늘로부터 보내심을 받은 성령께서 그들을 도와 하게 하신 일입니다. 여러분이 전해 들은 이 일들은 천사들조차 몹시 알고 싶어하는 것입니다.
거룩한 삶으로 부르심 13그러므로 여러분은 마음을 가다듬고 정신을 바짝 차리십시오. 그리고 예수 그리스도께서 나타나실 때에 하나님께서 여러분에게 주실 은혜의 선물에 모든 희망을 거십시오. 14여러분이 전에는 이런 것들을 몰라서 악한 욕망을 좇아 살았습니다. 그러나 이제는 하나님께 순종하는 자녀가 되었으니 예전처럼 살지 마십시오. 15이제는 여러분을 불러 주신 하나님께서 거룩하신 것처럼, 여러분도 하는 모든 일에서 거룩하게 되십시오. 16성경*에 이런 말씀이 있습니다. “내(하나님)가 거룩하니 너희도 거룩하여라.”* 17여러분은 각 사람의 행동을 공평하게 심판하시는 분을 아버지로 모시고 있습니다. 그러니 여러분은 하나님을 두려워하는 마음으로 이 땅에서 사는 동안 나그네처럼 살아가십시오. 18여러분은 조상에게서 물려받은 헛된 생활 방식에서 풀려났습니다. 여러분이 거기에서 풀려난 것은, 금이나 은처럼 사라져 버릴 것으로 값을 치르고 된 것이 아니라는 것을 여러분은 잘 알고 있습니다. 19여러분도 알다시피, 여러분은 흠도 없고 티도 없는 어린양이신 그리스도의 귀한 피로 값을 치르고 풀려났습니다. 20그리스도께서는 세상이 창조되기도 전에 이미 이러한 목적을 위해 선택되신 분입니다. 그러나 하나님께서는 여러분을 위하여 이 마지막 날에야 그분을 나타나게 하셨습니다. 21여러분은 그리스도를 통해서 하나님을 믿고 의지하게 되었습니다. 하나님께서는 그분을 죽은 자들 가운데서 다시 살리시고 영광스럽게 하셨습니다. 그러므로 여러분의 믿음과 소망은 하나님께 있습니다. 22이제 여러분이 진리에 순종함으로써 여러분의 영혼이 깨끗해졌습니다. 그리하여 믿는 형제자매들을 진심으로 사랑하게 되었습니다. 그러므로 마음으로부터 서로를 뜨겁게 사랑하십시오. 23여러분은 다시 태어났습니다. 여러분의 새 생명은 썩어 없어지고 말 씨앗, 곧 세상의 부모에게서 온 것이 아닙니다. 그것은 영원히 없어지지 않을 씨앗, 곧 하나님의 말씀을 통해서 온 것입니다. 하나님의 말씀은 살아 있으며 영원히 없어지지 않을 것입니다. 24예언자가 말한 것처럼,
“모든 사람은 풀과 같고
그들의 모든 영광은 들꽃과 같습니다.
풀은 마르고 꽃은 떨어지나 25주님의 말씀은 영원히 있습니다.”사 40:6-8
이 말씀이 바로 여러분에게 전해진 기쁜 소식입니다. |
