Jesus Teaches About Giving1“Be careful! When you do something good, don’t do it in front of others so that they will see you. If you do that, you will have no reward from your Father in heaven. 2“When you give to those who are poor, don’t announce that you are giving. Don’t be like the hypocrites*. When they are in the synagogues* and on the streets, they blow trumpets before they give so that people will see them. They want everyone to praise them. The truth is, that’s all the reward they will get. 3So when you give to the poor, don’t let anyone know what you are doing*. 4Your giving should be done in private. Your Father can see what is done in private, and he will reward you.
Jesus Teaches About Prayer (Lk. 11:2-4) 5“When you pray, don’t be like the hypocrites*. They love to stand in the synagogues* and on the street corners and pray loudly. They want people to see them. The truth is, that’s all the reward they will get. 6But when you pray, you should go into your room and close the door. Then pray to your Father. He is there in that private place. He can see what is done in private, and he will reward you. 7“And when you pray, don’t be like the people who don’t know God. They say the same things again and again. They think that if they say it enough, their god will hear them. 8Don’t be like them. Your Father knows what you need before you ask him. 9So this is how you should pray:
‘Our Father in heaven, we pray that your name will always be kept holy*. 10We pray that your kingdom* will come - that what you want will be done here on earth, the same as in heaven. 11Give us the food we need for today. 12Forgive our sins, just as we have forgiven those who did wrong to us. 13Don’t let us be tempted, but save us from the Evil One*.’* 14Yes, if you forgive others for the wrongs they do to you, then your Father in heaven will also forgive your wrongs. 15But if you don’t forgive others, then your Father in heaven will not forgive the wrongs you do.
Jesus Teaches About Fasting 16“When you fast*, don’t make yourselves look sad like the hypocrites*. They put a look of suffering on their faces so that people will see they are fasting. The truth is, that’s all the reward they will get. 17So when you fast, wash your face and make yourself look nice. 18Then no one will know you are fasting, except your Father, who is with you even in private. He can see what is done in private, and he will reward you.
You Cannot Serve Two Masters (Lk. 12:33-34; 11:34-36; 16:13) 19“Don’t save treasures for yourselves here on earth. Moths and rust will destroy them. And thieves can break into your house and steal them. 20Instead, save your treasures in heaven, where they cannot be destroyed by moths or rust and where thieves cannot break in and steal them. 21Your heart will be where your treasure is. 22“The only source of light* for the body is the eye. If you look at people and want to help them, you will be full of light. 23But if you look at people in a selfish way, you will be full of darkness*. And if the only light you have is really darkness, you have the worst kind of darkness.* 24“You cannot serve two masters at the same time. You will hate one and love the other, or you will be loyal to one and not care about the other. You cannot serve God and Money* at the same time.
Put God’s Kingdom First (Lk. 12:22-34) 25“So I tell you, don’t worry about the things you need to live - what you will eat, drink, or wear. Life is more important than food, and the body is more important than what you put on it. 26Look at the birds. They don’t plant, harvest, or save food in barns, but your heavenly Father feeds them. Don’t you know you are worth much more than they are? 27You cannot add any time to your life by worrying about it. 28“And why do you worry about clothes? Look at the wildflowers in the field. See how they grow. They don’t work or make clothes for themselves. 29But I tell you that even Solomon, the great and rich king, was not dressed as beautifully as one of these flowers. 30If God makes what grows in the field so beautiful, what do you think he will do for you? It’s just grass - one day it’s alive, and the next day someone throws it into a fire. But God cares enough to make it beautiful. Surely he will do much more for you. Your faith is so small! 31“Don’t worry and say, ‘What will we eat?’ or ‘What will we drink?’ or ‘What will we wear?’ 32That’s what those people who don’t know God are always thinking about. Don’t worry, because your Father in heaven knows that you need all these things. 33What you should want most is God’s kingdom* and doing what he wants you to do. Then he will give you all these other things you need. 34So don’t worry about tomorrow. Each day has enough trouble of its own. Tomorrow will have its own worries. |

돕는 것에 관하여 가르치시다 1”너희는 남에게 보이기 위해 옳은 일을 하지 않도록 조심하여라. 그렇지 않으면 하늘에 계신 너희 아버지에게서 아무런 상도 받을 수 없을 것이다. 2가난한 사람을 도울 때에는 떠들썩하게 알리지 말아라. 위선자들은 칭찬을 받으려고 회당이나 거리에서 그렇게 하는데, 너희는 그렇게 하지 말아라. 나는 분명히 말한다. 그런 사람들은 이미 받을 상을 다 받았다. 3남을 도울 때에는, 오른손이 하는 일을 왼손이 모르게 하여라. 4그렇게 네 자선행위를 비밀로 해 두어라. 그러면 은밀하게 한 일도 보시는 아버지께서 너희에게 상을 주실 것이다.
기도에 관하여 가르치시다 (눅 11:2-4) 5기도할 때에 위선자들처럼 하지 말아라. 그런 사람들은 다른 사람 눈에 보이려고 회당이나 길모퉁이에 서서 기도하기를 좋아한다. 내가 너희에게 분명히 말한다. 그런 사람들은 이미 받을 상을 다 받았다. 6너희는 방에 들어가서 문을 닫고 아무도 모르게 아버지께 기도하여라. 그러면 은밀한 일도 보시는 아버지께서 너희에게 상을 주실 것이다. 7기도할 때에 하나님을 모르는 사람들처럼 허튼소리를 되풀이하지 말아라. 그들은 말을 많이 해야만 하나님께서 들어주시는 줄로 안다. 8너희는 그렇게 기도하지 말아라. 너희 아버지께서는 너희가 구하기 전에 너희에게 무엇이 필요한지 다 알고 계신다. 9그러니 이렇게 기도하여라.
‘하늘에 계신 우리 아버지,
아버지의 이름이 거룩하게 여겨지기를 바랍니다. 10당신의 나라가 이 땅에 오기를 바랍니다.
하늘나라에서처럼 이 땅에서도
당신의 뜻이 이루어지기를 바랍니다. 11오늘 우리에게 먹을 양식을 주시고 12우리가 우리에게 잘못한 다른 사람을 용서하였듯이
우리의 잘못을 용서하여 주십시오. 13우리를 유혹에 빠지지 않게 하여 주시고,
악한 자에게서* 우리를 구해 주십시오.’ 14너희가 다른 사람들의 잘못을 용서하면 하늘에 계신 너희 아버지께서도 너희의 잘못을 용서하실 것이다. 15그러나 너희가 다른 사람의 잘못을 용서하지 않으면 너희 아버지께서도 너희의 잘못을 용서하시지 않을 것이다.
금식에 관하여 가르치시다 16너희는 금식할 때에, 위선자들처럼 일부러 어두운 얼굴을 하지 말아라. 그런 사람들은 자기들이 금식하고 있는 것을 다른 사람들에게 보이려고 일부러 그런 얼굴을 한다. 내가 너희에게 진정으로 말한다. 그런 사람들은 이미 받을 상을 다 받았다. 17너는 금식할 때에, 머리에 기름을 바르고 세수도 하여라. 18그렇게 하여, 네가 금식하는 것을 다른 사람들이 눈치 채지 못하게 하고, 오직 눈에 보이지 않는 네 아버지께서만 보시게 하여라. 그러면 은밀하게 하는 일을 보시는 네 아버지께서 네게 상을 주실 것이다.
돈보다 하나님 섬기는 것이 더 소중하다 (눅 12:33-34; 11:34-36; 16:13) 19이 땅에서 너희를 위하여 재물을 모으려 하지 말아라. 이 땅의 재물은 벌레 먹고 녹이 슬어 없어지거나 도둑이 훔쳐갈 수 있다. 20그러니 재물을 하늘나라에 쌓아 두어라. 거기서는 재물이 벌레 먹거나 녹이 슬어 없어지지도 않으며, 도둑이 몰래 와서 훔쳐 가지도 못한다. 21너희의 재물이 있는 곳에 너희의 마음도 있다. 22눈은 몸을 밝게 해 주는 등불이다. 눈이 건강하면 네 온몸이 밝을 것이다. 23그러나 눈이 성하지 못하면, 네 온몸이 어둠 속에 빠지게 된다. 그러니 네 안의 빛이 꺼지면 얼마나 어둡겠느냐! 24어떤 사람도 두 주인을 함께 섬길 수 없다. 한 편을 미워하고 다른 편을 사랑하거나, 한 편을 귀하게 여기고 다른 편을 업신여기게 된다. 이와 마찬가지로 너희가 하나님과 재물을 함께 섬길 수 없다.
하나님의 나라를 가장 중요하게 여겨라 (눅 12:22-34) 25그러므로 내가 너희에게 말한다. 무엇을 먹고 마실까 걱정하지 말아라. 또 무엇을 입을까 걱정하지 말아라. 목숨이 음식보다 중요하고, 몸이 옷보다 훨씬 귀중하지 않으냐? 26하늘을 나는 새를 보아라. 씨를 뿌리고 농사를 지어 먹을 것을 곳간에 채워 넣지 않아도, 하늘에 계신 너희 아버지께서 새들을 다 먹이신다. 너희는 새보다 훨씬 귀하지 않으냐? 27너희 가운데 누가 걱정한다고 해서 제 목숨을 한 시간이라도 늘일 수 있느냐? 28어찌하여 너희는 옷 걱정을 하느냐? 들에 피는 꽃이 어떻게 자라는지 살펴보아라. 그것들은 수고도 하지 않고 길쌈도 하지 않는다. 29내가 분명히 너희에게 말한다. 솔로몬*은 그렇게 많은 영화를 누렸어도 이 들꽃들처럼 아름다운 옷을 입지는 못하였다. 30믿음이 약한 사람들아, 오늘은 살아 있어도 내일은 아궁이에 던져질 들풀도 하나님께서 이렇게 입히시는데, 하물며 너희를 입히시지 않겠느냐? 31그러니 무엇을 먹을까, 무엇을 마실까, 무엇을 입을까 걱정하지 말아라. 32하나님을 모르는 사람들은 늘 이런 것을 얻으려고 애쓴다. 그러나 하늘에 계신 너희 아버지께서는 너희에게 이 모든 것이 있어야 한다는 것을 알고 계신다. 33너희는 먼저 하나님의 나라와 하나님께서 의롭게 여기시는 것을 구하라. 그러면 다른 모든 것은 저절로 얻게 될 것이다. 34그러니 내일 걱정은 하지 말아라. 내일이 되면 또 내일의 걱정거리가 있을 것이기 때문이다. 오늘은 오늘의 걱정거리만으로도 충분하다.” |
