Joy in Heaven (Mt. 18:12-14)1Many tax collectors* and sinners came to listen to Jesus. 2Then the Pharisees* and the teachers of the law began to complain, “Look, this man* welcomes sinners and even eats with them!” 3Then Jesus told them this story: 4“Suppose one of you has 100 sheep, but one of them gets lost. What will you do? You will leave the other 99 sheep there in the field and go out and look for the lost sheep. You will continue to search for it until you find it. 5And when you find it, you will be very happy. You will carry it 6home, go to your friends and neighbors and say to them, ‘Be happy with me because I found my lost sheep!’ 7In the same way, I tell you, heaven is a happy place when one sinner decides to change. There is more joy for that one sinner than for 99 good people who don’t need to change. 8“Suppose a woman has ten silver coins*, but she loses one of them. She will take a light and clean the house. She will look carefully for the coin until she finds it. 9And when she finds it, she will call her friends and neighbors and say to them, ‘Be happy with me because I have found the coin that I lost!’ 10In the same way, it’s a happy time for the angels of God when one sinner decides to change.”
Story About Two Sons 11Then Jesus said, “There was a man who had two sons. 12The younger son said to his father, ‘Give me now the part of your property that I am supposed to receive someday.’ So the father divided his wealth between his two sons. 13“A few days later the younger son gathered up all that he had and left. He traveled far away to another country, and there he wasted his money living like a fool. 14After he spent everything he had, there was a terrible famine throughout the country. He was hungry and needed money. 15So he went and got a job with one of the people who lived there. The man sent him into the fields to feed pigs. 16He was so hungry that he wanted to eat the food the pigs were eating. But no one gave him anything. 17“The son realized that he had been very foolish. He thought, ‘All my father’s hired workers have plenty of food. But here I am, almost dead because I have nothing to eat. 18I will leave and go to my father. I will say to him: Father, I have sinned against God and have done wrong to you. 19I am no longer worthy to be called your son. But let me be like one of your hired workers.’ 20So he left and went to his father.
The Younger Son Returns “While the son was still a long way off, his father saw him coming and felt sorry for him. So he ran to him and hugged and kissed him. 21The son said, ‘Father, I have sinned against God and have done wrong to you. I am no longer worthy to be called your son.’ 22“But the father said to his servants, ‘Hurry! Bring the best clothes and put them on him. Also, put a ring on his finger and good sandals on his feet. 23And bring our best calf and kill it so that we can celebrate with plenty to eat. 24My son was dead, but now he is alive again! He was lost, but now he is found!’ So they began to have a party.
The Older Son Complains 25“The older son had been out in the field. When he came near the house, he heard the sound of music and dancing. 26So he called to one of the servant boys and asked, ‘What does all this mean?’ 27The boy said, ‘Your brother has come back, and your father killed the best calf to eat. He is happy because he has his son back safe and sound.’ 28“The older son was angry and would not go in to the party. So his father went out and begged him to come in. 29But he said to his father, ‘Look, for all these years I have worked like a slave for you. I have always done what you told me to do, and you never gave me even a young goat for a party with my friends. 30But then this son of yours comes home after wasting your money on prostitutes, and you kill the best calf for him!’ 31“His father said to him, ‘Oh, my son, you are always with me, and everything I have is yours. 32But this was a day to be happy and celebrate. Your brother was dead, but now he is alive. He was lost, but now he is found.’” |

하늘나라의 기쁨 (마 18:12-14) 1많은 세무원*들과 죄인*들이 예수의 말씀을 들으려고 가까이 모여들었다. 2그러자 바리새파* 사람들과 율법 선생들이 수군거리기 시작하였다. “이 사람은 죄인들을 환영하고, 그들과 함께 음식을 먹는구나!” 3그러자 예수께서 이런 비유를 들려주셨다. 4”너희 가운데 누가 양 백 마리를 가지고 있는데, 그 가운데 한 마리를 잃어버렸다고 하자. 그러면 그 사람은 다른 아흔아홉 마리를 들에 둔 채 나가서 잃어버린 한 마리 양을 찾을 때까지 찾아다니지 않겠느냐? 5그러다가 찾으면 그는 기뻐서 그 양을 어깨에 메고 6집으로 갈 것이다. 그 사람은 친구와 이웃 사람들을 불러모으고 이렇게 말할 것이다. ‘잃어버렸던 내 양을 찾았습니다. 함께 기뻐해 주십시오!’ 7내가 너희에게 말한다. 이와 마찬가지로, 하늘에서는 죄인 한 사람이 회개하면 크게 기뻐할 것이다. 회개할 필요가 없는 의인 아흔아홉보다 회개하는 죄인 한 사람 때문에 더 크게 기뻐할 것이다. 8어떤 여자가 은돈* 열 개를 가지고 있다가 그 가운데 한 개를 잃어버렸다고 하자. 그 여자는 불을 켜 들고 집을 샅샅이 청소하며, 그 돈을 찾을 때까지 구석구석 뒤지지 않겠느냐? 9그러다가 잃어버린 은돈을 찾으면 친구와 이웃들을 불러 이렇게 말할 것이다. ‘잃어버렸던 은돈을 찾았습니다. 함께 기뻐해 주십시오!’ 10이와 마찬가지로 죄인 한 사람이 회개하면 하나님의 천사들이 기뻐할 것이다.”
두 아들의 비유 11예수께서 이어서 말씀하셨다. “어떤 사람에게 두 아들이 있었다. 12작은아들이 아버지에게 말하였다. ‘아버지의 재산 가운데서 제가 받을 몫을 주십시오.’ 그래서 아버지는 재산을 두 아들에게 나누어 주었다. 13며칠 뒤에 작은아들은 자기가 받은 것을 모두 가지고 집을 떠났다. 그리고 먼 지방으로 가서 방탕하게 사느라고 가진 돈을 헛되게 써 버렸다. 14그가 가진 것을 모두 다 써 버린 뒤에 그 지방에 심한 가뭄이 들었다. 어디에도 먹을 것이 없어서 아들은 딱한 처지에 놓이게 되었다. 15그래서 그는 그 지방의 어떤 사람을 찾아가서 일자리를 얻었다. 그 사람은 아들을 들로 보내어 돼지를 치게 하였다. 16아들은 너무 배가 고파서 돼지들이 먹는 콩깍지로라도 배를 채우고 싶을 정도였다. 그러나 아무도 그에게 먹을 것을 주지 않았다. 17그제야 아들은 제정신이 들어 이렇게 말하였다. ‘아버지의 그 많은 종들에게는 먹을 것이 남아도는데, 나는 여기서 굶어죽게 되었구나. 18여기를 떠나 아버지에게 돌아가야겠다. 가서 아버지께 이렇게 말씀드려야지. ‘아버지, 저는 하나님과 아버지께 죄를 지었습니다. 19저는 아버지의 아들이라고 불릴 자격도 없습니다. 저를 아버지의 삯꾼들 가운데 하나로 삼아 주십시오.’ 20마침내 아들은 그곳을 떠나 아버지의 집으로 갔다.
작은 아들이 돌아오다아들이 아직도 멀리 있을 때에 아버지는 아들을 보았다. 아버지는 아들이 불쌍한 마음이 들어, 아들에게 달려가 끌어안고 입을 맞추었다. 21아들이 말하였다. ‘아버지, 저는 하나님과 아버지께 죄를 지었습니다. 저는 아버지의 아들이라고 불릴 자격도 없습니다.’ 22그러나 아버지는 종들에게 말하였다. ‘어서 가장 좋은 옷을 꺼내서 내 아들에게 입히고, 가락지도 끼워 주고 신도 신겨 주어라. 23그리고 살진 송아지를 잡아라. 우리 잔치를 베풀고 축하하자! 24나의 이 아들은 죽었다가 살아났고, 나는 이 아이를 잃었다가 다시 찾았다!’ 그래서 그들은 축하하기 시작하였다.
큰아들이 불평하다 25밭에 나가 있던 큰아들이 집으로 돌아오고 있었다. 그가 집에 거의 이르렀을 때에 음악 소리와, 사람들이 기뻐 춤추는 소리가 들려왔다. 26그는 종 하나를 불러서 물었다. ‘이게 다 무슨 소리냐?’ 27종이 대답하였다. ‘아우님이 돌아오셔서 아버님께서 송아지를 잡으셨습니다. 아버님께서는 아우님이 무사히 집으로 돌아오셔서 무척 기뻐하고 계십니다!’ 28큰아들이 화가 나서 들어가지 않으려고 하자, 아버지가 나와서 그를 달래기 시작하였다. 29큰아들이 아버지에게 말하였다. ‘보십시오! 이 여러 해 동안 저는 종처럼 아버지를 섬겨 왔습니다. 그리고 한 번도 아버지의 말씀을 어긴 적이 없습니다. 그러나 아버지께서는 저에게 염소 한 마리라도 주어서, 30제가 친구들과 함께 잔치를 열게 해 주신 적이 없습니다. 그런데 몸 파는 여자들에게 아버지의 돈을 써 버린 아버지의 이 아들이 집으로 돌아오자, 아버지는 그를 위해 살진 송아지를 잡으셨습니다!’ 31아버지가 아들에게 말하였다. ‘아들아, 너는 언제나 나와 함께 있지 않느냐? 내가 가진 것이 모두 네 것이다. 32그런데 네 아우는 죽었다가 살아났고, 나는 잃었던 아들을 다시 찾았다. 그러니 기뻐하고 즐겁게 잔치를 여는 것이 마땅하지 않겠느냐?’“ |
