1Greetings from Paul, an apostle* of Christ Jesus. I am an apostle because that is what God wanted. Greetings also from Timothy our brother in Christ.
To God’s church* in Corinth and to all of God’s holy people* throughout Achaia*. 2Grace* and peace to you from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ.
Paul Gives Thanks to God 3Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ. He is the Father who is full of mercy, the God of all comfort. 4He comforts us every time we have trouble so that when others have trouble, we can comfort them with the same comfort God gives us. 5We share in the many sufferings of Christ. In the same way, much comfort comes to us through Christ. 6If we have troubles, it is for your comfort and salvation. If we are comforted, it is so that we can comfort you. And this helps you patiently accept the same sufferings we have. 7Our hope for you is strong. We know that you share in our sufferings. So we know that you also share in our comfort. 8Brothers and sisters, we want you to know about the trouble we suffered in Asia*. We had great burdens there, which were greater than our own strength. We even gave up hope for life. 9In fact, it seems like God has been telling us we are going to die. But this is so that we will not trust in ourselves but in God, who raises people from death. 10He saved us from these great dangers of death, and he will continue to save us. We feel sure he will always save us. 11And you can help us with your prayers. Then many people will give thanks for us - that God blessed us because of their many prayers.
The Change in Paul’s Plans 12This is what we are proud of, and I can say with a clear conscience that it is true: In everything we have done in the world, we have done it with an honest and pure heart from God. And this is even truer in what we have done with you. We did this by God’s grace*, not by the kind of wisdom the world has. 13We write to you only what you can read and understand. And I hope you will fully understand, 14just as you already understand many things about us. I hope you will understand that you can be proud of us, just as we will be proud of you on the day when our Lord Jesus Christ comes again. 15I was very sure of all this. That is why I made plans to visit you first. Then you could be blessed twice. 16I planned to visit you on my way to Macedonia* and again on my way back. I wanted to get help from you for my trip to Judea. 17Do you think that I made these plans without really thinking? Or maybe you think I make plans as the world does, saying yes and no at the same time. 18But if you can believe God, then you can believe that what we tell you is never both yes and no. 19The Son of God, Jesus Christ, the one that Silas, Timothy, and I told you about was not yes and no. In Christ it has always been yes. 20The yes to all of God’s promises is in Christ. And that is why we say “Amen”* through Christ to the glory* of God. 21And God is the one who makes you and us strong in Christ. God is also the one who chose us for his work*. 22He put his mark on us to show that we are his. Yes, he put his Spirit* in our hearts as the first payment that guarantees all that he will give us. 23I tell you this, and I ask God to be my witness that this is true: The reason I did not come back to Corinth was that I did not want to punish or hurt you. 24I don’t mean that we are trying to control your faith. You are strong in faith. But we are workers with you for your own happiness. |

1하나님의 뜻으로 그리스도 예수의 사도*가 된 바울과 우리의 형제 디모데가, 고린도에 있는 하나님의 교회와 아가야* 지방에 있는 모든 성도들에게 이 편지를 씁니다. 2우리 아버지 하나님과 주 예수 그리스도의 은혜와 평화가 여러분에게 있기를 바랍니다.
바울, 하나님께 감사드리다 3우리 주 예수 그리스도의 아버지 하나님께 찬양을 드립시다. 그분은 지극히 자비로우신 아버지시요, 모든 위로의 근원이 되시는 하나님이십니다. 4그분은 우리가 어려움을 당할 때마다 우리를 위로해 주십니다. 그것은 우리가, 우리 자신이 하나님께 받은 위로로 어려움을 당한 다른 사람들을 위로할 수 있게 하려는 것입니다. 5그것은, 그리스도의 고난이 흘러 넘쳐 우리의 삶에까지 미치는 것과 마찬가지로, 우리가 받는 위로도 흘러 넘쳐 다른 사람들의 삶에까지 미치기 때문입니다. 6우리가 어려움을 겪는 것도 여러분이 위로와 구원을 받게 하려는 것이며, 우리가 위로를 받는 것도 여러분이 위로를 받게 하려는 것입니다. 이 위로로, 여러분은 우리가 겪는 것과 똑같은 고난을 참을성 있게 견디어 냅니다. 7여러분은 우리가 겪는 고통을 나누어 지고 있습니다. 그러니 우리가 받는 위로도 나누어 받을 것이라고 확실히 믿습니다. 8형제자매 여러분, 우리가 아시아*에서 겪은 어려움을 여러분이 알아주기 바랍니다. 우리는 그곳에서 우리의 힘에 부치는 어려움에 짓눌려서, 살아날 희망마저 없었습니다. 9우리는 사형 선고를 받은 것이나 다름없었습니다. 이런 일이 있었던 것은, 우리가 우리 스스로를 믿지 않고, 죽은 자들을 살리시는 하나님을 의지하게 하려는 것이었습니다. 10하나님께서는 그런 죽을 고비에서 우리를 건져 주셨고, 지금도 건져 주고 계십니다. 또 앞으로도 계속하여 건져 주시리라는 희망을 그분께에게 두고 있습니다. 11여러분도 기도로 우리를 도와주고 있으니, 틀림없이 우리를 건져 주실 것입니다. 그렇게 되면, 하나님께서 많은 사람의 기도를 들으시고 우리에게 그러한 복을 내려 주시는 것을 보고, 많은 사람이 하나님께 감사하게 될 것입니다.
바울의 계획이 바뀜 12우리는 하나님께서 주신 정직하고 진실한 마음으로 이 세상에서 처신해 왔습니다. 여러분을 대할 때에는 더욱 그렇게 하였습니다. 우리는 이 일을 자랑스럽게 여기며, 우리의 양심 또한 그것을 증언합니다. 그러나 그것은 세상의 지혜로 한 일이 아니라, 하나님의 은혜로 한 일입니다. 13내가 여러분에게 쓰는 편지도 솔직하게 쓰는 것이어서, 여러분이 읽고 이해할 수 없는 것이 하나도 없습니다. 내가 바라는 것은, 14비록 여러분이 지금은 우리를 완전히 이해하지 못하나 언젠가는 완전히 이해하게 되는 것입니다. 그러면 우리 주 예수 그리스도께서 다시 오시는 날에, 우리가 여러분을 자랑스럽게 여기듯이 여러분도 우리를 자랑스럽게 여길 수 있을 것입니다. 15이렇게 여러분이 우리를 이해하고 믿어 주리라는 확신이 있었기에, 나는 여러분을 먼저 찾아가려고 마음먹었습니다. 그것은 여러분이 두 배의 복을 받게 하려는 것이었습니다. 16마케도니아로 가는 길에 먼저 여러분에게 들렀다가, 돌아오는 길에 다시 여러분을 찾아볼 생각이었기 때문입니다. 그리고 여러분의 도움을 받아 유대로 갈 생각이었습니다. 17여러분은 내가 이런 계획을 별 생각 없이 세웠을 것이라고 생각하십니까? 또는 나도 ‘예’와 ‘아니오’를 한 입으로 말하는 세상 사람들과 같다고 생각하십니까? 18그러나 하나님의 신실하심을 걸고 맹세합니다만, 여러분에게 한 내 말은 결코 ‘예’인 동시에 ‘아니오’가 아닙니다. 19그것은, 실라와 디모데와 내가 전하는 하나님의 아들 예수 그리스도는, ‘예’와 ‘아니오’ 사이를 왔다 갔다 하시는 분이 아니었기 때문입니다. 그분 안에서는 언제나 ‘예’만 있을 뿐입니다. 20하나님께서 하신 그 모든 약속이 다 그리스도 안에서 이루어졌기 때문입니다. 그래서 우리는 그리스도를 통하여 ‘아멘’이라고 말하며 하나님께 영광을 돌리는 것입니다. 21여러분과 우리를 그리스도 안에서 흔들림 없이 굳게 서도록 해 주시는 분은 하나님이십니다. 하나님께서는 우리에게 특별한 일을 맡기시고*, 22우리가 당신께 속한 사람들이라는 표로 도장을 찍으시고, 우리 마음에 성령님을 주셨습니다. 성령님은, 하나님께서 당신이 약속하신 모든 것을 반드시 주시리라는 보증입니다. 23나는 하나님께, 나의 증인이 되셔서 내가 하려는 말이 참말이라는 것을 증언해 주시기를 부탁드립니다. 내가 고린도로 돌아가지 않은 것은, 심한 꾸지람으로 여러분의 마음을 아프게 하는 것을 피하려는 것이었습니다. 24여러분이 이미 믿음 안에 굳게 서 있으니, 우리는 여러분에게 믿음을 어떻게 실천하라고 일일이 말하려 하지 않습니다. 우리는 다만 여러분이 기쁨을 누리게 하려고, 여러분과 같이 일하는 사람들일 뿐입니다. |
