Your New Life1You were raised from death with Christ. So live for what is in heaven, where Christ is sitting at the right hand of God. 2Think only about what is up there, not what is here on earth. 3Your old self has died, and your new life is kept with Christ in God. 4Yes, Christ is now your life, and when he comes again, you will share in his glory*. 5So put everything evil out of your life: sexual sin, doing anything immoral, letting sinful thoughts control you, and wanting things that are wrong. And don’t keep wanting more and more for yourself, which is the same as worshiping a false god. 6God will show his anger against those who don’t obey him*, because they do these evil things. 7You also did these things in the past, when you lived like them. 8But now put these things out of your life: anger, losing your temper, doing or saying things to hurt others, and saying shameful things. 9Don’t lie to each other. You have taken off those old clothes - the person you once were and the bad things you did then. 10Now you are wearing a new life, a life that is new every day. You are growing in your understanding of the one who made you. You are becoming more and more like him. 11In this new life it doesn’t matter if you are a Greek* or a Jew, circumcised* or not. It doesn’t matter if you speak a different language or even if you are a Scythian*. It doesn’t matter if you are a slave or free. Christ is all that matters, and he is in all of you.
Your New Life With Each Other 12God has chosen you and made you his holy people*. He loves you. So your new life should be like this: Show mercy to others. Be kind, humble, gentle, and patient. 13Don’t be angry with each other, but forgive each other. If you feel someone has wronged you, forgive them. Forgive others because the Lord forgave you. 14Together with these things, the most important part of your new life is to love each other. Love is what holds everything together in perfect unity. 15Let the peace that Christ gives control your thinking. It is for peace that you were chosen to be together in one body*. And always be thankful. 16Let the teaching of Christ live inside you richly. Use all wisdom to teach and counsel each other. Sing psalms, hymns, and spiritual songs with thankfulness in your hearts to God. 17Everything you say and everything you do should be done for Jesus your Lord. And in all you do, give thanks to God the Father through Jesus.
Your New Life at Home 18Wives, be willing to serve your husbands. This is the right thing to do in following the Lord. 19Husbands, love your wives, and be gentle to them. 20Children, obey your parents in everything. This pleases the Lord. 21Fathers, don’t upset your children. If you are too hard to please, they might want to stop trying. 22Servants, obey your masters in everything. Obey all the time, even when they can’t see you. Don’t just pretend to work hard so that they will treat you well. No, you must serve your masters honestly because you respect the Lord. 23In all the work you are given, do the best you can. Work as though you are working for the Lord, not any earthly master. 24Remember that you will receive your reward from the Lord, who will give you what he promised his people. Yes, you are serving Christ. He is your real Master.* 25Remember that anyone who does wrong will be punished for that wrong. And the Lord treats everyone the same. |

그리스도 안의 새 생명 1여러분은 그리스도와 함께 다시 살아났습니다. 그러니 위에 있는 것들에 마음을 두십시오. 거기는 그리스도께서 하나님의 오른편에 앉아 계시는 곳입니다. 2이 세상의 것들에 마음을 두지 말고 하늘에 있는 것들에 마음을 두십시오. 3여러분은 이 세상에서는 이미 죽었기 때문입니다. 여러분의 새 생명은 그리스도와 함께 하나님 안에 있어 보이지 않습니다. 4우리의 생명이신 그리스도께서 나타나실 때에, 여러분도 그분과 함께 영광 속에 나타나게 될 것입니다. 5그러므로 여러분 안에 들어 있는 이 세상의 것들, 곧 성적인 부도덕과 순결하지 못한 것과 정욕과 악한 욕망과 탐욕을 모두 죽이십시오. 탐욕은 우상을 섬기는 것과 같습니다. 6이런 것들 때문에 순종하지 않는 사람들에게* 하나님의 진노*가 내립니다. 7여러분도 전에는 이런 것들에 빠져 살았습니다. 8그러나 이제는 이런 모든 것들, 곧 성냄과 분노와 악한 마음과 남을 헐뜯는 것과 입에서 나오는 더러운 말을 버리십시오. 9그리고 서로에게 거짓말을 하지 마십시오. 여러분은 옛 행실과 더불어 옛 사람을 벗어버리고, 10새 사람을 입었기 때문입니다. 이 새 사람은 자기를 만드신 하나님을 닮으려고 끊임없이 새로워집니다. 그리하여 하나님을 완전히 알게 됩니다. 11이렇게 새로워진 삶에서는, 그리스 사람도 유대 사람도, 할례* 받은 사람도 받지 않은 사람도, 야만인도 스구디아인*도, 종도 자유인도 없습니다. 그리스도께서는 이 모든 믿는 이들 안에 계십니다. 그리고 그리스도만이 중요합니다. 12여러분은 하나님의 택하심을 받은 거룩하고* 사랑 받는 사람들입니다. 그러니 그런 사람들답게 자비와 친절과 겸손과 관대함과 인내를 옷 입듯 입으십시오. 13서로에게 불평할 일이 있더라도 서로 참고 용서하십시오. 주님께서 여러분을 용서해 주신 것과 같이 여러분도 용서하십시오. 14이 모든 것 위에 사랑의 옷을 입으십시오. 사랑은 이 모든 것을 하나로 묶어 완전하게 합니다. 15그리스도의 평화가 여러분의 마음을 다스리게 하십시오. 이 평화를 누리게 하시려고, 여러분을 한 몸*의 지체로 부르신 것입니다. 그리고 언제나 감사하는 마음을 가지십시오. 16그리스도의 말씀이 여러분 가운데 풍성히 살아 있게 하십시오. 여러분은 그 말씀에서 온갖 지혜를 배워 서로 가르치고 충고하십시오. 감사하는 마음으로 시와 찬송과 신령한 노래로 하나님을 찬양하십시오. 17여러분은 무슨 말이나 무슨 일이나 모두 주 예수의 이름으로 하고, 그분을 통하여 하나님 아버지께 감사를 드리십시오.
다른 사람들과 살아가는 새로운 삶 18아내들이여 남편에게 복종하십시오. 이것이 주 안에 있는 사람에게 어울리는 일입니다. 19남편들이여 여러분의 아내를 사랑하고, 그들을 모질게 대하지 마십시오. 20자녀들이여 모든 일에 부모에게 순종하십시오. 이것이 주님을 기쁘게 해 드리는 일입니다. 21부모들이여 자녀들을 자극하여 성나게 하지 마십시오. 그렇게 하면 자녀들의 기가 꺾입니다. 22남의 종이 된 사람들이여, 모든 일에 있어서 이 땅의 주인들에게 순종하십시오. 주인이 보고 있거나 주인의 눈에 들려고 할 때에만 그렇게 할 것이 아니라, 주님을 두려워하여 진실한 마음으로 그렇게 하십시오. 23무슨 일을 하든지 마음을 다해 하십시오. 사람을 위해서가 아니라 주님을 위해서 하듯이 하십시오. 24여러분은 주님께 유산을 상으로 받을 것을 알고 있지 않습니까? 여러분은 주 그리스도를 섬기는 사람들입니다. 25누구든지 잘못을 저지른 사람은 자기가 저지른 잘못에 대한 벌을 받을 것입니다. 거기에는 사람에 따라 차별을 두는 일이 없습니다. |
