1Greetings from Paul, an apostle* of Christ Jesus. I am an apostle because that is what God wanted.
To God’s holy people* living in Ephesus*, believers who belong to Christ Jesus. 2Grace* and peace to you from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ.
Spiritual Blessings in Christ 3Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ. In Christ, God has given us every spiritual blessing in heaven. 4In Christ, he chose us before the world was made. He chose us in love to be his holy people* - people who could stand before him without any fault. 5And before the world was made, God decided to make us his own children through Jesus Christ. This was what God wanted, and it pleased him to do it. 6And this brings praise to God because of his wonderful grace*. God gave that grace to us freely. He gave us that grace in Christ, the one he loves. 7In Christ we are made free by his blood sacrifice. We have forgiveness of sins because of God’s rich grace. 8God gave us that grace fully and freely. With full wisdom and understanding 9he let us know his secret plan. This was what God wanted, and he planned to do it through Christ. 10God’s goal was to finish his plan when the right time came. He planned that all things in heaven and on earth be joined together with Christ as the head. 11In Christ we were chosen to be God’s people. God had already planned for us to be his people, because that is what he wanted. And he is the one who makes everything agree with what he decides and wants. 12We Jews were the first to hope in Christ. And we were chosen so that we would bring praise to God in all his glory*. 13It is the same with you. You heard the true message, the Good News* about the way God saves you. When you heard that Good News, you believed in Christ. And in Christ, God put his special mark on you by giving you the Holy Spirit* that he promised. 14The Spirit is the first payment that guarantees we will get all that God has for us. Then we will enjoy complete freedom as people who belong to him. The goal for all of us is the praise of God in all his glory.
Paul’s Prayer 15-16That is why I always remember you in my prayers and thank God for you. I have done this ever since I heard about your faith in the Lord Jesus and your love for all of God’s people. 17I always pray to the great and glorious Father, the God of our Lord Jesus Christ. I pray that he will give you the Spirit*, who will let you know truths about God and help you understand them, so that you will know him better. 18I pray that God will open your minds to see his truth. Then you will know the hope that he has chosen us to have. You will know that the blessings God has promised his holy people* are rich and glorious. 19And you will know that God’s power is very great for us who believe. It is the same as the mighty power 20he used to raise Christ from death and put him at his right side in the heavenly places. 21He put Christ over all rulers, authorities, powers, and kings. He gave him authority over everything that has power in this world or in the next world. 22God put everything under Christ’s power and made him head over everything for the church*. 23The church is Christ’s body. It is filled with him. He makes everything complete in every way. |

1하나님의 뜻에 따라 그리스도 예수의 사도*가 된 바울이, 그리스도 예수 안에서 신실하게 살아가는 에베소의* 성도*들에게 이 편지를 씁니다. 2하나님 우리 아버지와 주 예수 그리스도의 은혜와 평화가 여러분과 함께하시기를 바랍니다.
그리스도 안에서 받는 영적 축복 3우리 주 예수 그리스도의 아버지 하나님께 찬양을 드립니다. 하나님께서는 그리스도 안에서 하늘의 모든 영적인 복을 우리에게 내려 주셨습니다. 4하나님께서는 우리를 사랑하셔서, 세상이 창조되기도 전에 그리스도 안에서 우리를 택하셨습니다. 그것은, 우리가 하나님 앞에서 거룩하고 흠잡을 데 없는 백성이 되게 하시려는 것이었습니다. 5그리고 예수 그리스도를 통하여 우리를 당신의 자녀로 삼기로 미리 정하셨습니다. 그것은 하나님께서 뜻하시고 기뻐하시는 일이었습니다. 6하나님의 사랑하시는 아들을 통하여 우리에게 거저 주신 이 영광스러운 은혜에 대하여, 우리는 하나님께 찬양을 드릴 수밖에 없습니다. 7우리는 그리스도 안에서, 그리스도의 피로 말미암아 죄에서 풀려나 자유를 얻었습니다. 곧 우리는 하나님의 풍성한 은혜 덕분에 죄를 용서받은 것입니다. 8하나님께서는 우리에게 그 은혜를 아낌없이 부어 주셨습니다. 뿐만 아니라 모든 지혜와 통찰력도 함께 주셨습니다. 9이제 하나님께서 당신의 비밀스러운 계획을 우리에게 드러내셨습니다. 이것은 그리스도를 통하여 이루시려고 하나님께서 미리 세워 놓으신 계획대로 된 것입니다. 10그 계획은, 때가 무르익으면 하늘과 땅에 있는 모든 것이 그리스도를 머리로 하여 하나가 되게 한다는 것입니다. 11그리스도 안에서 우리는 하나님의 백성으로 택함을 받았습니다. 우리는, 모든 것을 계획하신 대로 이루어 내시는 하나님의 계획에 따라서 미리부터 그렇게 되기로 정해져 있었습니다. 12그것은, 우리로 하여금 하나님의 영광을 찬미하게 하려는 것인데, 우리는 맨 먼저 그리스도께 희망을 두게 된 사람들입니다. 13그런데 이제 여러분도 진리의 말씀, 곧 여러분의 구원에 관한 기쁜 소식*을 들었습니다. 그리고 여러분이 그리스도를 믿었을 때에, 하나님께서는 여러분이 당신께 속한다는 것을 확인하는 표로 약속하셨던 성령*을 주셨습니다. 14성령은, 하나님께서 당신의 백성에게 주시겠다고 약속하신 나머지 다른 약속도 받게 되리라는 보증입니다. 그러면 우리는 하나님께서 당신의 백성에게 주시는 완전한 자유를 얻게 될 것입니다. 이 모든 것이 하나님의 영광을 찬미하게 하려는 것입니다.
바울의 기도 15나는 여러분이 주 예수를 충실히 믿으며, 모든 성도를 사랑한다는 소식을 들었습니다. 나는 그 소식을 들은 뒤로, 16기도할 때에 여러분을 기억하며, 여러분을 두고 끊임없이 하나님께 감사를 드립니다. 17나는, 우리 주 예수 그리스도의 하나님, 곧 영광스러운 아버지께서 여러분에게 지혜의 영과 계시의 영을 내려 주셔서, 여러분이 하나님을 더 잘 알 수 있게 되기를 간구합니다. 18그리하여 여러분이, 밝아진 마음의 눈으로, 하나님의 백성으로 부르심을 받은 여러분의 희망이 무엇이며, 하나님께서 당신의 거룩한 백성*에게 약속하신 축복이 얼마나 풍성하며 얼마나 영광스러운 것인지를 알게 되기를 바랍니다. 19또 하나님께서 우리 믿는 사람들에게 강한 힘으로 활동하시는 그 능력이 얼마나 큰지 알게 되기를 바랍니다. 20하나님께서는 이 능력을 그리스도 안에서 떨치시어, 그분을 죽은 자들 가운데서 일으키시고, 하늘에서는 당신의 오른쪽에 앉히셨습니다. 21이제 그리스도께서는 모든 통치와 권세와 능력과 주권과, 이 세상뿐만 아니라 오는 세상에서까지 그 어떤 이름의 세력보다 훨씬 높이 계십니다. 22하나님께서는 모든 것을 그리스도의 발 아래에 두시고, 교회를 위하여 모든 것의 머리로 삼으셨습니다. 23교회는 그리스도의 몸이고, 그리스도로 가득 차 있습니다. 그리스도는 모든 것을 완전히 채우시는 분입니다. |
