Help for God’s People in Judea1And now, brothers and sisters, we want to tell you what God’s grace* has done in the churches* in Macedonia*. 2These believers have been tested by great troubles, and they are very poor. But their great joy caused them to be very generous in their giving. 3I can tell you that they gave as much as they were able and even more than they could afford. No one told them to do this. It was their idea. 4But they asked us again and again - they begged us to let them share in this service for God’s people. 5And they gave in a way that we did not expect: They gave themselves to the Lord and to us before they gave their money. This is what God wants. 6So we asked Titus to help you finish this special work of giving. He is the one who started this work. 7You are rich in everything - in faith, in speaking ability, in knowledge, in the willingness to help, and in the love you learned from us. So now we want you to be rich in this work of giving too. 8I am not ordering you to give, but I want to see how real your love is by comparing you with others who have been so ready and willing to help. 9You know the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ. You know that he gave up his heavenly riches for you. He gave up everything so that you could be richly blessed. 10This is what I think you should do: Last year you were the first to want to give, and you were the first who gave. 11So now finish the work you started. Then your “doing” will be equal to your “wanting to do.” Give from what you have. 12If you want to give, your gift will be accepted. Your gift will be judged by what you have, not by what you don’t have. 13We don’t want you to have troubles while others are comforted. We want everything to be equal. 14At this time you have plenty and can provide what they need. Then later, when they have plenty, they can provide what you need. Then everyone will have an equal share. 15As the Scriptures* say,
“Those who gathered much did not have too much,
and those who gathered little did not have too little.”*
Titus and His Companions 16I thank God because he gave Titus the same love for you that I have. 17Titus agreed to do what we asked. In fact, he himself wanted very much to come see you. 18We are sending with Titus the brother who is praised by all the churches*. He is praised because of his service to the Good News*. 19Also, he was chosen by the churches to go with us when we carry this gift. We are doing this service to bring honor* to the Lord and to show that we really want to help. 20We are being careful so that no one will criticize us about the way we are caring for this large gift. 21We are trying to do what is right. We want to do what the Lord accepts as right and also what people think is right. 22Also, we are sending with them our brother who is always ready to help. He has proved this to us in many ways. And he wants to help even more now because he has much faith in you. 23Now about Titus - he is my partner. He is working together with me to help you. And about the other brothers - they are sent from the churches, and they bring honor to Christ. 24So show these men that you really have love. Show them why we are proud of you. Then all the churches can see it. |

그리스도를 믿는 이들을 어떻게 도와야 할 것인가? 1사랑하는 형제자매 여러분, 하나님께서 마케도니아에 있는 여러 교회에 내려 주신 은혜를 여러분께 알려 드리려 합니다. 2그들은 많은 어려움으로 시련을 겪으면서도 기쁨이 넘치고, 극심한 가난에 쪼들리면서도 남들에게 넘치도록 베풀었습니다. 3나는 그들이 힘닿는 데까지 바쳤다는 것을 증언합니다. 아니, 그들은 오히려 자신들의 힘에 넘치게 바쳤습니다. 그리고 마지못해 한 것이 아니라 그들이 스스로 원해서 그렇게 하였습니다. 4그들은 하나님의 백성을 돕는 일을 큰 특권으로 생각하고, 이 특권에 자기들도 한몫 끼게 해 달라고 여러 번 우리에게 간청하였습니다. 5그들은 먼저 하나님께 자신들을 바침으로써, 우리가 기대했던 것보다 더 많이 바쳤습니다. 그러고 나서 하나님의 뜻에 따라 우리에게도 바쳤습니다. 6그래서 우리는 디도에게, 그가 이미 여러분 사이에서 시작한 이 은혜스러운 일을 마저 끝내라고 권하였습니다. 7여러분은 모든 일에 뛰어납니다. 믿음과 말과 지식과 열성과 또 우리에게서 배운 사랑에서 여러분을 따를 사람이 없습니다. 그러니 형제들을 돕는 이 은혜로운 일에도 뛰어나기를 바랍니다. 8나는 여러분에게 돈을 바치라고 명령하지 않습니다. 다만 남들을 돕는 일에 다른 사람들이 보여 준 열성과 견주어서, 여러분의 사랑이 얼마나 진실한지 알고 싶을 뿐입니다. 9여러분은 우리 주 예수 그리스도께서 얼마나 많은 것을 우리에게 주셨는지 잘 알고 있습니다. 그분은 부요하셨으나 여러분을 위해 가난하게 되셨습니다. 그분이 가난하게 되신 것 때문에 여러분이 오히려 부요하게 되기를 바라셨기 때문입니다. 10나는 여러분이 이 일을 이렇게 처리하는 것이 좋겠다고 생각합니다. 지난해에 여러분은 누구보다 앞서 돕기 시작했을 뿐만 아니라, 돕고 싶어하는 마음을 가진 것도 여러분이 처음이었습니다. 11그러니 이제 그 일을 마무리 지으십시오. 여러분이 기꺼이 바치고 싶어하던 그 열성에 걸맞게 이제는 힘닿는 대로 그 일을 마무리 짓는 것이 좋겠습니다. 12여러분이 바치고 싶어 바치는 것이면, 가진 것에 따라 바치는 것을 하나님께서 기꺼이 받아 주실 것입니다. 여러분에게 없는 것까지 바치라는 것은 아닙니다. 13내가 지금 여러분을 쪼들리게 하여 다른 사람들을 넉넉하게 해 주려는 것이 아닙니다. 나는 모두가 고르게 나누어 가지기를 바랄 뿐입니다. 14지금 여러분이 넉넉하게 살면서 가난에 쪼들리는 사람들을 도와준다면, 나중에 그들의 살림이 넉넉하게 될 때에 여러분에게 필요한 것을 나누어 줄 수 있을 것입니다. 그러면 모두가 고르게 나누어 가지게 될 것입니다. 15성경에도 이렇게 쓰여 있습니다.
“많이 거둔 사람에게도 넘치는 것이 없고,
적게 거둔 사람에게도 부족한 것이 없었다.”출 16:18
디도와 그의 동료들 16내가 여러분에게 쏟는 것과 같은 열성을 디도에게도 주신 하나님께 감사드립니다. 17디도는 기쁜 마음으로 다시 여러분에게 가려고 합니다. 그는 여러분을 다시 찾아가 달라는 우리의 부탁을 기꺼이 받아들였을 뿐만 아니라, 자기 스스로 가고 싶어합니다. 18우리는 디도에게 형제 한 사람을 딸려 보내려 합니다. 이 형제는 힘써 기쁜 소식*을 전하는 일로 모든 교회에서 칭찬을 받고 있는 형제입니다. 19또한 이 형제는, 우리가 이 선물을 예루살렘으로 가지고 갈 때에, 우리와 같이 갈 형제로 여러 교회가 뽑은 사람이기도 합니다. 이 일은 우리가 주님을 영광스럽게 해 드리고, 형제들을 돕고 싶어하는 우리의 열성을 드러내기 위해 하는 일입니다. 20우리가 그들을 보내는 것은, 이 많은 헌금을 다루면서 아무에게서도 뒷말을 듣지 않으려는 것입니다. 21우리는 주님 앞에서뿐 아니라 사람들 앞에서도 떳떳하게 일하려고 애씁니다. 22우리는 이 두 사람과 함께 형제를 또 한 사람 보냅니다. 우리는, 그가 열성스러운 사람이라는 것을 여러 가지로 확인하였습니다. 그는 지금 여러분에 대한 깊은 신뢰를 갖게 되어 더더욱 열성을 내고 있습니다. 23이제 디도로 말하면, 그는 나의 동료로서 여러분을 위해 나와 같이 일하는 사람입니다. 그리고 그와 함께 가는 형제들은 여러 교회가 뽑아 보내는 대표들로서, 그리스도께 많은 영광을 돌리는 사람들입니다. 24그러니 여러분은 그들에게 여러분의 사랑을 보여 주십시오. 그러면 그들을 보낸 교회들이 그것을 보고, 우리가 여러분을 자랑한 것이 결코 헛자랑이 아니었음을 알게 될 것입니다. |
