Jesus Teaches About Prayer (Mt. 6:9-15)1One time Jesus was out praying, and when he finished, one of his followers said to him, “John* taught his followers how to pray. Lord, teach us how to pray too.” 2Jesus said to the followers, “This is how you should pray:
‘Father, we pray that your name will always be kept holy.
We pray that your kingdom* will come. 3Give us the food we need for each day. 4Forgive our sins, just as we forgive everyone who has done wrong to us.
And don’t let us be tempted.’”
Ask God for What You Need (Mt. 7:7-11) 5-6Then Jesus said to them, “Suppose one of you went to your friend’s house very late at night and said to him, ‘A friend of mine has come into town to visit me. But I have nothing for him to eat. Please give me three loaves of bread.’ 7Your friend inside the house answers, ‘Go away! Don’t bother me! The door is already locked. My children and I are in bed. I cannot get up and give you the bread now.’ 8I tell you, maybe friendship is not enough to make him get up to give you the bread. But he will surely get up to give you what you need if you continue to ask. 9So I tell you, continue to ask, and God will give to you. Continue to search, and you will find. Continue to knock, and the door will open for you. 10Yes, whoever continues to ask will receive. Whoever continues to look will find. And whoever continues to knock will have the door opened for them. 11Do any of you have a son? What would you do if your son asked you for a fish? Would any father give him a snake? 12Or, if he asked for an egg, would you give him a scorpion? Of course not! 13Even you who are bad know how to give good things to your children. So surely your heavenly Father knows how to give the Holy Spirit* to the people who ask him.”
Jesus’ Power Is From God (Mt. 12:22-30; Mk. 3:20-27) 14One time Jesus was sending a demon* out of a man who could not talk. When the demon came out, the man was able to speak. The crowds were amazed. 15But some of the people said, “He uses the power of Satan* to force demons out of people. Satan is the ruler of demons.” 16Some others there wanted to test Jesus. They asked him to do a miracle as a sign from God. 17But he knew what they were thinking. So he said to them, “Every kingdom that fights against itself will be destroyed. And a family that fights against itself will break apart. 18So if Satan* is fighting against himself, how will his kingdom survive? You say that I use the power of Satan to force out demons. 19But if I use Satan’s power to force out demons, then what power do your people use when they force out demons? So your own people will prove that you are wrong. 20But I use the power of God to force out demons. This shows that God’s kingdom* has now come to you. 21“When a strong man with many weapons guards his own house, the things in his house are safe. 22But suppose a stronger man comes and defeats him. The stronger man will take away the weapons that the first man trusted to keep his house safe. Then the stronger man will do what he wants with the other man’s things. 23“Whoever is not with me is against me. And anyone who does not work with me is working against me.
The Danger of Emptiness (Mt. 12:43-45) 24“When an evil spirit comes out of someone, it travels through dry places, looking for a place to rest. But it finds no place to rest. So it says, ‘I will go back to the home I left.’ 25When it comes back, it finds that home all neat and clean. 26Then the evil spirit goes out and brings back seven other spirits more evil than itself. They all go and live there, and that person has even more trouble than before.”
The People God Blesses 27As Jesus was saying these things, a woman with the people there called out to him, “Blessings from God belong to the woman who gave birth to you and fed you!” 28But Jesus said, “The people who hear the teaching of God and obey it - they are the ones who have God’s blessing.”
Some People Doubt Jesus’ Authority (Mt. 12:38-42; Mk. 8:12) 29The crowd grew larger and larger. Jesus said, “The people who live today are evil. They ask for a miracle* as a sign from God. But no miracle will be done to prove anything to them. The only sign will be the miracle that happened to Jonah*. 30Jonah was a sign for those who lived in Nineveh*. It is the same with the Son of Man*. He will be a sign for the people of this time. 31“On the judgment day, you people who live now will be compared with the Queen of the South*, and she will be a witness who shows how guilty you are. Why do I say this? Because she traveled from far, far away to listen to Solomon’s wise teaching. And I tell you that someone* greater than Solomon is right here, but you won’t listen! 32“On the judgment day, you people who live now will also be compared with the people from Nineveh, and they will be witnesses who show how guilty you are. I say this because when Jonah preached to those people, they changed their hearts and lives. And you are listening to someone greater than Jonah, but you refuse to change!
Be a Light for the World (Mt. 5:15; 6:22-23) 33“No one takes a light and puts it under a bowl or hides it. Instead, they put it on a lampstand so that the people who come in can see. 34The only source of light for the body is the eye. When you look at people and want to help them, you are full of light. But when you look at people in a selfish way, you are full of darkness.* 35So be careful! Don’t let the light in you become darkness. 36If you are full of light, and there is no part of you that is dark, then you will be all bright, as though you have the light of a lamp shining on you.”
Jesus Criticizes the Religious Leaders (Mt. 23:1-36; Mk. 12:38-40; Lk. 20:45-47) 37After Jesus had finished speaking, a Pharisee* asked Jesus to eat with him. So he went and took a place at the table. 38But the Pharisee was surprised when he saw that Jesus did not wash his hands* first before the meal. 39The Lord said to him, “The washing you Pharisees do is like cleaning only the outside of a cup or a dish. But what is inside you? You want only to cheat and hurt people. 40You are foolish! The same one who made what is outside also made what is inside. 41So pay attention to what is inside. Give to the people who need help. Then you will be fully clean. 42“But it will be bad for you Pharisees! You give God a tenth of the food you get, even your mint, your rue, and every other little plant in your garden*. But you forget to be fair to others and to love God. These are the things you should do. And you should also continue to do those other things. 43“It will be bad for you Pharisees because you love to have the most important seats in the synagogues*. And you love for people to show respect to you in the marketplaces. 44It will be bad for you, because you are like hidden graves. People walk on them without knowing it.” 45One of the experts in the law said to Jesus, “Teacher, when you say these things about the Pharisees, you are criticizing our group too.” 46Jesus answered, “It will be bad for you, you experts in the law! You make strict rules that are very hard for people to obey*. You try to force others to obey your rules. But you yourselves don’t even try to follow any of those rules. 47It will be bad for you, because you build tombs* for the prophets*. But these are the same prophets your ancestors* killed! 48And now you show all people that you agree with what your ancestors did. They killed the prophets, and you build tombs for the prophets! 49This is why God in his wisdom said, ‘I will send prophets and apostles* to them. Some of my prophets and apostles will be killed by evil men. Others will be treated badly.’ 50“So you people who live now will be punished for the deaths of all the prophets who were killed since the beginning of the world. 51You will be punished for the killing of Abel*. And you will be punished for the killing of Zechariah*, who was killed between the altar* and the Temple*. Yes, I tell you that you people will be punished for them all. 52“It will be bad for you, you experts in the law! You have taken away the key to learning about God. You yourselves would not learn, and you stopped others from learning too.” 53When Jesus went out, the teachers of the law and the Pharisees began to give him much trouble. They tried to make him answer questions about many things. 54They were trying to find a way to catch Jesus saying something wrong. |

기도에 대해 가르치시다 (마 6:9-15) 1어느 날 예수께서 어떤 곳에서 기도하고 계셨다. 기도를 마치시자 제자 가운데 한 사람이 예수께 말씀드렸다. “주님, 요한이 제자들에게 기도하는 법을 가르쳐 준 것처럼, 저희에게도 기도하는 법을 가르쳐 주십시오.” 2예수께서 제자들에게 말씀하셨다. “너희는 기도할 때 이렇게 하여라.
‘아버지, 당신의 이름이 거룩히 여김을 받으시기를 원합니다.
아버지의 나라가 이 세상에 오기를 바랍니다. 3우리에게 날마다 필요한 양식을 주십시오. 4우리가 우리에게 죄를 지은 사람들을 다 용서합니다.
그러니 우리의 죄도 용서해 주십시오.
그리고 우리를 유혹에 넘어가지 않게 도와주십시오.’“
끈질기게 구하여라 (마 7:7-11) 5그러고 나서 예수께서 제자들에게 말씀하셨다. “너희 가운데 한 사람이 밤늦게 친구 집에 가서 이렇게 말한다고 생각해 보자. ‘여보게, 빵 세 덩이만 빌려 주게. 6내 친구가 여행길에 나를 찾아왔는데, 그 친구 앞에 내놓을 것이 하나도 없어서 그러네.’ 7그러면 그 친구는 안에서 이렇게 대답할 것이다. ‘나를 귀찮게 하지 말고 가 보게! 문은 잠겼고 아이들과 나는 벌써 잠자리에 들었으니, 지금 일어나 빵을 줄 수가 없네.’ 8잘 들어라. 그 사람이 친구라고 해서 그가 일어나 빵을 주지는 않을 것이다. 그러나 그 사람이 부끄러움을 무릅쓰고 끈질기게 조르면, 그가 일어나서 그 사람이 필요로 하는 만큼 줄 것이다. 9그러므로 내가 말한다. 구하여라, 그러면 너희에게 주실 것이다. 찾아라, 그러면 찾을 것이다. 두드려라, 그러면 너희에게 문이 열릴 것이다. 10누구든지 구하면 받을 것이다. 찾는 이는 찾을 것이고, 두드리는 이에게 문이 열릴 것이다. 11너희 가운데 아들을 둔 사람이 있느냐? 너희 아들이 물고기를 달라고 하면 어떻게 하겠느냐? 아들에게 뱀을 줄 아버지가 있겠느냐? 12그리고 너희 아들이 달걀을 달라고 하는데 전갈*을 주겠느냐? 13너희는 악한 사람들이다. 그래도 너희 아이들에게 좋은 것을 줄 줄 안다. 그러니 하늘에 계신 아버지께서는 더더욱 당신에게 청하는 사람들에게 성령*을 주시지 않겠느냐?”
예수의 힘은 하나님께로부터 온다 (마 12:22-30; 막 3:20-27) 14어느 날 예수께서 벙어리 귀신을 쫓아내셨다. 그 귀신이 나가자 벙어리이던 그 사람이 곧 말을 할 수 있게 되었다. 사람들은 이것을 보고 깜짝 놀랐다. 15그러나 그들 가운데 어떤 사람들은 이렇게 말하였다. “예수는 귀신들의 우두머리인 바알세불*의 힘을 빌려서 귀신들을 쫓아낸다.” 16또 어떤 사람들은 예수를 시험해 보려고, 예수께 하늘에서 내려오는 표적을 보여 달라고 하였다. 17그러나 예수께서는 그 사람들이 무슨 생각으로 그러는지 알아채시고 이렇게 말씀하셨다. “스스로 갈라져서 싸우는 나라는 모두 망한다. 가족도 서로 싸우면 흩어지고 만다. 18이처럼 사탄(악마)이 스스로 나뉘어 자신과 싸우면 그의 나라가 무너지지 않겠느냐? 내가 바알세불의 힘을 빌려 귀신들을 쫓아낸다고 너희가 말하니 내가 하는 말이다. 19내가 바알세불에게서 힘을 얻어 귀신들을 쫓아낸다면, 너희를 따르는 사람들은 누구의 힘을 빌려 귀신을 쫓아낸단 말이냐? 그러므로 그들이 너희의 재판관이 될 것이다. 20그러나 내가 하나님의 능력으로 귀신을 쫓아냈다면, 그것은 하나님의 나라가 너희에게 왔다는 것을 나타낸다. 21힘센 사람이 빈틈없이 무장을 하고 자기 집을 지킬 때 그의 재산은 안전하다. 22그러나 그보다 힘센 사람이 달려들어 그를 이기면 어떻게 되겠느냐? 그 사람이 믿었던 무기를 빼앗고, 그의 재산을 약탈하여 자기 마음대로 나누어 줄 것이다. 23내 편에 서지 않는 사람은 나를 반대하는 사람이다. 나와 함께 모으지 않는 사람은 헤치는 사람이다.
비어 있는 사람 (마 12:43-45) 24어떤 사람에게 들어 있던 귀신이 그 사람에게서 나가게 되면, 그 귀신은 쉴 곳을 찾아 물 없는 곳을 돌아다닌다. 그러다가 쉴 곳을 찾지 못하면 이렇게 말한다. ‘내가 있던 집(사람)으로 돌아가야겠다.’ 25그 귀신이 돌아와 그 집(사람)이 말끔히 치워지고 잘 정돈되어 있는 것을 보면 다시 나간다. 26그러고는 자기보다 더 나쁜 귀신을 일곱이나 데리고 들어와서, 그곳에 자리 잡고 살게 된다. 그러면 그 사람의 형편은 처음보다 더 비참하게 된다.”
참으로 복 있는 사람 27예수께서 이 말씀을 하실 때에, 그곳에 있던 사람들 가운데 한 여자가 큰 소리로 말하였다. “선생님을 낳아 기른 어머니는 복 있는 분이십니다.” 28예수께서 이렇게 말씀하셨다. “오히려 하나님의 가르침을 듣고 따르는 사람들이 복 있는 사람들이다.”
몇몇 사람이 예수의 권위를 의심하다 (마 12:38-42; 막 8:12) 29큰 무리가 모였을 때 예수께서 말씀하셨다. “이 세대 사람들은 참으로 악하다. 그들은 내게 표적을 보여 달라고 요구한다. 그러나 그들에게는 요나의 표적 밖에는 어떤 표적도 보여 주지 않을 것이다. 30니느웨 사람들에게는, 요나에게 일어난 일이 하나님께서 그를 보냈다는 표적이 되었다. 그와 마찬가지로 이 시대 사람들에게는, 사람의 아들에게 일어나는 일이 하나님께서 사람의 아들을 보내셨다는 표적이 될 것이다. 31심판 날에, 시바의 여왕*이 이 세대 사람들과 함께 일어나서 이 세대 사람들을 죄인이라고 심판할 것이다. 그 여왕은 솔로몬의 지혜로운 가르침을 들으려고 멀고 먼 곳에서 찾아왔기 때문이다. 그러나 보아라! 이제 솔로몬보다 더 위대한 이가* 여기에 있다! 32심판 날에 니느웨 사람들이 이 세대 사람들과 함께 일어나, 이 세대 사람들을 죄인이라고 심판할 것이다. 그들은 요나의 설교를 듣고 회개하였기 때문이다. 내가 너희에게 말한다. 이제 요나보다 더 위대한 이가* 여기에 있다!
세상을 비추는 등불이 되어라 (마 5:15, 6:22-23) 33등불을 켜서, 그것을 숨겨 두거나 그릇으로 덮어 두는 사람은 없다. 등불은 등잔대 위에 얹어 놓아 집에 들어오는 사람들이 볼 수 있게 한다. 34네 눈은 몸을 밝히는 빛이다. 눈이 성하면 네게 필요한 빛을 다 받는다. 그러나 눈이 성치 못하면 모든 것이 캄캄할 것이다. 35그러니 조심하여라! 네 안에 어둠이 아니라 빛을 간직하도록 하여라. 36네 몸에 빛이 가득하여 몸의 어디에도 어두운 구석이 없으면, 마치 등불이 너를 비추는 것처럼 네 온몸이 밝은 빛을 낼 것이다.”
종교 지도자들을 꾸짖으시다 (마 23:1-36; 막 12:38-40; 눅 20:45-47) 37예수께서 말씀을 마치시자, 어떤 바리새파* 사람이 예수께 자기 집에서 음식을 드시자고 청하였다. 그래서 예수께서 그 집에 들어가 상 앞에 앉으셨다. 38그런데 예수께서 음식을 들기 전에 손을 씻지 않으시는 것을 보고 바리새파 사람이 깜짝 놀랐다. 39그때 주께서 그에게 말씀하셨다. “너희 바리새파 사람들은 잔이나 접시의 겉을 깨끗이 닦는데, 너희 속은 탐욕과 악독으로 가득 차 있다. 40어리석은 사람들아, 겉을 만드신 분(하나님)이 속도 만들지 않으셨느냐? 41그러므로 마음으로부터 가난한 사람을 도와주어라. 그러면 너희에게 모든 것이 깨끗할 것이다. 42너희 바리새파 사람들아 너희에게 화가 미칠 것이다! 너희는 박하와 운향*과 그 밖의 모든 채소의 십분의 일을 하나님께 바친다. 그러나 정의와 하나님을 사랑하는 일은 대수롭지 않게 여긴다. 십분의 일을 바치는 일도 게을리하지 않으면서, 정의와 하나님을 사랑하는 일도 반드시 실천했어야 하지 않겠느냐? 43내가 다시 말한다. 너희 바리새파 사람들에게 정말로 화가 미칠 것이다! 너희는 회당*에서 가장 높은 자리에 앉기를 좋아한다. 그리고 장터에서는 사람들에게 인사받기를 좋아한다. 44너희에게 화가 미칠 것이다. 너희는 아무런 표지가 없는 평평한 무덤과 같다. 사람들은 무덤인 줄도 모르고 그 위로 걸어다닌다.*” 45한 율법 선생이 예수께 “선생님, 바리새파 사람들에게 그렇게 말씀하시는 것은 저희 율법 선생들도 함께 모욕하시는 것입니다.” 하고 투덜거렸다. 46예수께서 대답하셨다. “너희 율법 선생들에게도 화가 미칠 것이다. 너희는 지키기 힘든 어려운 규칙들을 억지로 사람들에게 지운다. 그러면서 너희는 그들을 도우려고 손가락 하나 까딱하지 않는다. 47너희에게도 화가 미칠 것이다. 너희가 예언자*들의 기념비를 세우는데, 그 예언자*들을 죽인 것은 바로 너희 조상이었다. 48너희는 조상들이 한 짓이 잘한 짓이라고 생각하고, 그것을 모든 사람에게 보여 주고 있는 것이다. 너희 조상들은 예언자들을 죽였고, 너희는 그 예언자들의 기념비를 세우고 있다. 49그렇기 때문에 하나님의 지혜가 이렇게 말씀하셨다. ‘내가 예언자들과 사도들을 그 사람들에게 보낼 것이다. 그 예언자와 사도들 가운데서 더러는 죽임을 당하고 더러는 박해를 당할 것이다.’ 50그러므로 이 세대는 세상이 생겼을 때부터 모든 예언자들이 흘린 피에 대한 책임을 져야 할 것이다. 51곧 아벨*을 죽여 흘린 피에서부터 사가랴*가 제단*과 성전* 사이에서 죽임을 당할 때에 흘린 피까지 책임을 져야 할 것이다. 그렇다! 내가 진정으로 말한다. 지금 살고 있는 너희는 이 모든 사람을 죽인 책임을 져야 할 것이다. 52너희 율법 선생들에게 화가 미칠 것이다. 너희는 하나님에 대한 지식의 열쇠를 가로채었다. 그러고는 너희 자신도 들어가지 않고, 들어가려는 사람들도 가로막고 있다.” 53예수께서 그곳을 떠나실 때에, 율법 선생들과 바리새파 사람들은 앙심을 품고 예수께 대들며 여러 가지 물음을 퍼부었다. 54그분의 대답에서 트집거리를 찾으려는 것이었다. |
