Jesus Uses a Story About Farm Workers1“God’s kingdom* is like a man who owned some land. One morning, the man went out very early to hire some people to work in his vineyard*. 2He agreed to pay the workers one silver coin* for working that day. Then he sent them into the vineyard to work. 3“About nine o’clock the man went to the marketplace and saw some other people standing there. They were doing nothing. 4So he said to them, ‘If you go and work in my field, I will pay you what your work is worth.’ 5So they went to work in the vineyard.
“The man went out again about twelve o’clock and again at three o’clock. Both times he hired some others to work in his vineyard. 6About five o’clock the man went to the marketplace again. He saw some other people standing there. He asked them, ‘Why did you stand here all day doing nothing?’ 7“They said, ‘No one gave us a job.’
“The man said to them, ‘Then you can go and work in my vineyard.’ 8“At the end of the day, the owner of the field said to the boss of all the workers, ‘Call the workers and pay them all. Start by paying the last people I hired. Then pay all of them, ending with the ones I hired first.’ 9“The workers who were hired at five o’clock came to get their pay. Each worker got one silver coin. 10Then the workers who were hired first came to get their pay. They thought they would be paid more than the others. But each one of them also received one silver coin. 11When they got their silver coin, they complained to the man who owned the land. 12They said, ‘Those people were hired last and worked only one hour. But you paid them the same as us. And we worked hard all day in the hot sun.’ 13“But the man who owned the field said to one of them, ‘Friend, I am being fair with you. You agreed to work for one silver coin. Right? 14So take your pay and go. I want to give the man who was hired last the same pay I gave you. 15I can do what I want with my own money. Why would you be jealous because I am generous?’ 16“So those who are last now will be first in the future. And those who are first now will be last in the future.”
Jesus Talks Again About His Death (Mk. 10:32-34; Lk. 18:31-34) 17Jesus was going to Jerusalem. His twelve followers were with him. While they were walking, he gathered the followers together and spoke to them privately. He said to them, 18“We are going to Jerusalem. The Son of Man* will be handed over to the leading priests and the teachers of the law, and they will say he must die. 19They will hand him over to the foreigners, who will laugh at him and beat him with whips, and then they will kill him on a cross. But on the third day after his death, he will be raised to life again.”
A Mother Asks a Special Favor (Mk. 10:35-45) 20Then Zebedee’s wife came to Jesus and brought her sons. She bowed before Jesus and asked him to do something for her. 21Jesus said, “What do you want?”
She said, “Promise that one of my sons will sit at your right side in your kingdom and the other at your left.” 22So Jesus said to the sons, “You don’t understand what you are asking. Can you drink from the cup* that I must drink from?”
The sons answered, “Yes, we can!” 23Jesus said to them, “It is true that you will drink from the cup that I drink from. But it is not for me to say who will sit at my right or my left. My Father has decided who will do that. He has prepared those places for them.” 24The other ten followers heard this and were angry with the two brothers. 25So Jesus called the followers together. He said, “You know that the rulers of the non-Jewish people love to show their power over the people. And their important leaders love to use all their authority over the people. 26But it should not be that way with you. Whoever wants to be your leader must be your servant. 27Whoever wants to be first must serve the rest of you like a slave. 28Do as I did: The Son of Man* did not come for people to serve him. He came to serve others and to give his life to save many people.”
Jesus Heals Two Blind Men (Mk. 10:46-52; Lk. 18:35-43) 29When Jesus and his followers were leaving Jericho, a large crowd followed him. 30There were two blind men sitting by the road. They heard that Jesus was coming by. So they shouted, “Lord, Son of David*, please help us!” 31The people there criticized the blind men and told them to be quiet. But they shouted more and more, “Lord, Son of David, please help us!” 32Jesus stopped and said to them, “What do you want me to do for you?” 33They answered, “Lord, we want to be able to see.” 34Jesus felt sorry for the blind men. He touched their eyes, and immediately they were able to see. Then they became followers of Jesus. |

포도밭 일꾼 이야기 1”하늘나라는 어떤 포도밭 주인에게 비길 수 있다. 이 포도밭 주인은 자기 포도밭에서 일할 일꾼을 구하려고 아침 일찍 집을 나섰다. 2그는 일꾼들에게 그날 하루 품삯으로 한 데나리온*을 주겠다고 약속하였다. 그러고 나서 밭주인은 일꾼들을 밭으로 내보냈다. 3아침 아홉 시쯤 되었을 때 밭주인은 장터에 나갔다. 그는 거기서 아무 일도 하지 않고 서성이는 사람들을 보았다. 4밭주인은 이들에게 말하였다. ‘당신들이 내 포도밭에 와서 일을 하면 적당한 품삯을 주겠소.’ 5그리하여 사람들은 밭으로 일하러 갔다.
밭주인은 열두 시와 세 시쯤에 또 장터로 나갔다. 이번에도 그는 할 일 없이 서성이는 사람들을 자기 밭의 일꾼으로 데려왔다. 6저녁 다섯 시쯤 되었을 때 밭주인은 장터로 다시 나갔다. 그는 장터에서 우두커니 서 있는 사람들을 보았다. 밭주인은 그들에게 ‘왜 당신들은 하루 종일 아무 일도 하지 않고 여기 서 있소?’ 하고 물었다. 7그 사람들이 대답하였다. ‘우리에게 일거리를 주는 사람이 아무도 없습니다.’
밭주인이 그 사람들에게 말하였다. ‘그러면 당신들도 내 포도밭에 가서 일을 하시오.’ 8날이 저물자 포도밭 주인은 자기 관리인에게 일렀다. ‘일꾼들을 모두 불러서 일한 삯을 주게. 내가 가장 나중에 부른 일꾼들부터 삯을 주게. 그리고 맨 먼저 부른 일꾼들에게는 가장 나중에 삯을 주게.’ 9저녁 다섯 시쯤 일하러 온 일꾼들이 품삯을 받았다. 모두 한 데나리온* 을 받았다. 10맨 먼저 일하러 온 일꾼들이 품삯을 받을 차례가 되었다. 그들은 은근히 자기들이 다른 일꾼들보다 삯을 더 많이 받으려니 생각하였다. 그러나 이들에게도 각각 한 데나리온만 돌아갔다. 11그들은 한 데나리온을 받은 뒤에 밭주인에게 가서 따졌다. 12그들은 밭주인에게 말하였다. ‘저 사람들은 맨 나중에 일하러 와서 겨우 한 시간 일했습니다. 그러나 우리는 온종일 더위 속에서 열심히 일했습니다. 그런데도 우리는 저 사람들과 같은 품삯을 받았습니다.’ 13그러나 밭주인은 이들 가운데 한 일꾼에게 이렇게 말하였다. ‘여보게, 나는 자네를 불공평하게 대하지 않았네. 자네는 한 데나리온을 받기로 하고 내 밭에 와서 일한 것이 아닌가? 14그러니 자네 품삯이나 받아 가게. 나는 맨 나중에 온 일꾼에게도 자네와 똑같은 품삯을 주겠네. 15내 돈을 내 마음대로 쓸 권리가 내게 없단 말인가? 내가 저 사람들에게 잘해 주어서 샘이 나는가?’“ 16예수께서 말씀하셨다. “앞으로는 꼴찌가 첫째가 되고, 첫째가 꼴찌가 될 것이다.”
자신의 죽음에 관해 말씀하시다 (막 10:32-34; 눅 18:31-34) 17예수께서 예루살렘으로 가시다가, 열두 제자를 따로 불러 말씀하셨다. 18”우리는 지금 예루살렘으로 가고 있다. 그곳에서 사람의 아들*이 대제사장들과 율법 선생들의 손에 넘어가 사형 선고를 받을 것이다. 19그리고 이방 사람*의 손에 넘겨져서, 그들에게 비웃음과 채찍질을 당하고 십자가에 달려 죽을 것이다. 그러나 죽은 지 사흘째 되는 날에 그는 다시 살아날 것이다.”
한 어머니가 예수께 특혜를 요청하다 (막 10:35-45) 20그때 세베대의 아내가 자기 아들들과 함께 예수께 와서 절을 한 뒤에, 한 가지 부탁이 있다고 말씀드렸다. 21예수께서 그 여자에게 물으셨다. “그대가 바라는 것이 무엇이냐?”
여자가 대답하였다. “선생님께서 임금님의 자리에 오르시면, 제 두 아들을 각각 선생님의 오른쪽과 왼쪽에 앉게 해 주십시오.” 22그러자 예수께서 말씀하셨다. “너희는 지금 너희가 무슨 부탁을 하고 있는지도 모른다. 내가 마셔야 할 잔을 너희도 마실 수 있느냐*?”
“예, 마실 수 있습니다.” 그들이 대답하였다. 23예수께서 그들에게 말씀하셨다. “너희는 정말로 내가 마실 잔을 마실 것이다. 그러나 누가 내 오른쪽과 왼쪽에 앉을 것인지는 내가 결정할 일이 아니다. 그것을 결정하실 분은 내 아버지시다. 아버지께서는 이미 그 자리에 앉을 사람을 정해 놓으셨다. 그러니 그 자리는 그 사람들의 것이다.” 24나머지 열 명의 제자들이 이 말을 듣고 세베대의 아들들에게 화를 냈다. 25예수께서는 제자들을 모두 불러 모으셨다. 그리고 말씀하셨다. “너희도 알다시피 세상의 통치자들은 힘으로 다스리고, 그들의 고관들은 권력을 휘두른다. 26그러나 너희는 그래서는 안 된다. 너희 가운데 높은 자리에 오르고 싶은 사람은 다른 사람들의 종이 되어야 한다. 27그리고 너희 가운데 으뜸이 되고 싶은 사람은 다른 사람들의 종이 되어야 한다. 28사람의 아들*은 섬김을 받으러 온 것이 아니라 섬기러 왔다. 그리고 자기 목숨을 내주어 많은 사람들을 구원*하기 위해서 왔다.”
눈먼 사람 둘을 고치시다 (막 10:46-52; 눅 18:35-43) 29예수와 제자들이 여리고*를 떠나려고 할 때에 큰 무리가 예수의 뒤를 따랐다. 30그 길에 눈먼 사람 둘이 앉아 있었다. 이들은 예수께서 지나가신다는 말을 듣고 소리쳤다. “다윗의 자손*이신 주여, 우리를 도와주십시오!” 31무리가 이들에게 조용히 하라고 꾸짖었으나, 그 둘은 계속 “다윗의 아들이신 주여, 저희를 도와주십시오!”라고 외쳤다. 32예수께서는 걸음을 멈추고 그들에게 물으셨다. “내가 어떻게 해 주기를 바라느냐?” 33그들이 대답하였다. “주여, 앞을 보기를 원합니다.” 34예수께서는 불쌍한 마음이 들어 그들의 눈에 손을 대셨다. 그러자 그들은 곧 앞을 볼 수 있게 되었다. 그들은 예수를 따랐다. |
