1Greetings from Paul, an apostle* of Christ Jesus. I am an apostle because that is what God wanted. Greetings also from Timothy, our brother in Christ. 2To the holy* and faithful brothers and sisters in Christ who live in Colossae.
Grace* and peace to you from God our Father. 3In our prayers we always thank God for you. He is the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ. 4We thank him because we have heard about the faith you have in Christ Jesus and the love you have for all of God’s people. 5Your faith and love continue because you know what is waiting for you in heaven - the hope you have had since you first heard the true message, the Good News 6that was told to you. Throughout the world, this Good News is bringing blessings and is spreading. And that’s what has been happening among you since the first time you heard it and understood the truth about God’s grace. 7You heard it from Epaphras, our dear friend and co-worker. He is a faithful servant of Christ for us*. 8He also told us about the love you have from the Spirit*. 9Since the day we heard these things about you, we have continued praying for you. This is what we pray:
that God will make you completely sure of what he wants by giving you all the wisdom and spiritual understanding you need; 10that this will help you live in a way that brings honor to the Lord and pleases him in every way;
that your life will produce good works of every kind and that you will grow in your knowledge of God*; 11that God will strengthen you with his own great power, so that you will be patient and not give up when troubles come. Then you will be happy 12and give thanks to the Father. He has made you able to have what he has promised to give all his holy people*, who live in the light*. 13God made us free from the power of darkness*. And he brought us into the kingdom of his dear Son. 14The Son paid the price to make us free. In him we have forgiveness of our sins.
The Son of God Is the Same as God 15No one can see God, but the Son is exactly like God. He rules over everything that has been made.* 16Through his power all things were made: things in heaven and on earth, seen and not seen - all spiritual rulers, lords, powers, and authorities.
Everything was made through him and for him. 17The Son was there before anything was made. And all things continue because of him. 18He is the head of the body, which is the church*. He is the beginning of everything else. And he is the first among all who will be raised from death*.
So in everything he is most important. 19God was pleased for all of himself to live in the Son. 20And through him, God was happy to bring all things back to himself again - things on earth and things in heaven.
God made peace by using the blood sacrifice of his Son on the cross. 21At one time you were separated from God. You were his enemies in your minds, because the evil you did was against him. 22But now he has made you his friends again. He did this by the death Christ suffered while he was in his body. He did it so that he could present you to himself as people who are holy*, blameless, and without anything that would make you guilty before him. 23And that is what will happen if you continue to believe in the Good News* you heard. You must remain strong and sure in your faith. You must not let anything cause you to give up the hope that became yours when you heard the Good News. That same Good News has been told to everyone on earth, and that’s the work that I, Paul, was given to do.
Paul’s Work for the Church 24I am happy in my sufferings for you. There is much that Christ must still suffer. And I gladly accept my part of those sufferings in my body for the good of his body, the church*. 25I became a servant of the church because God gave me a special work to do. This work helps you. My work is to tell the complete message of God. 26This message is the secret truth that was hidden since the beginning of time. It was hidden from everyone for ages, but now it has been made known to God’s holy people*. 27God decided to let his people know just how rich and glorious that truth is. That secret truth, which is for all people, is that Christ lives in you, his people. He is our hope for glory*. 28So we continue to tell people about Christ. We use all wisdom to counsel every person and teach every person. We are trying to bring everyone before God as people who have grown to be spiritually mature in Christ. 29To do this, I work and struggle using the great strength that Christ gives me. That strength is working in my life. |

1하나님의 뜻에 따라 그리스도 예수의 사도*가 된 나 바울과 우리의 형제 디모데가 2골로새*에 있는 성도*들, 곧 그리스도 안에 있는 신실한 형제자매 여러분에게 이 편지를 씁니다. 우리 아버지 하나님의 은혜와 평화가 여러분에게 있기를 빕니다. 3우리는 여러분을 위해서 기도할 때에, 언제나 우리 주 예수 그리스도의 아버지이신 하나님께 감사를 드립니다. 4그리스도 예수께 대한 여러분의 믿음과 모든 성도들에 대한 여러분의 사랑을 전해 들었기 때문입니다. 5그 믿음과 사랑은 여러분을 위해 하늘에 쌓아 두신 희망에서 나온 것입니다. 그 희망에 대해서는 여러분이 진리의 말씀, 곧 기쁜 소식*을 통하여 이미 들은 바가 있습니다. 6여러분에게 전해진 바로 이 기쁜 소식이 온 세상 곳곳으로 퍼져나가고 있습니다. 그리고 여러분이 기쁜 소식을 듣고 하나님의 은혜에 대한 진리를 깨달은 그날 이후로, 여러분 가운데서 기쁜 소식의 열매가 맺히고 있는 것과 마찬가지로, 세상 곳곳에서도 똑같은 일이 일어나고 있습니다. 7여러분에게 기쁜 소식을 전해 준 사람은 우리와 함께 종이 된 사랑하는 에바브라였습니다. 그는 여러분을 위하여* 일하는 그리스도의 충실한 종입니다. 8그는 또한 성령* 안에서 여러분이 품고 있는 사랑을 우리에게 전해 준 사람이기도 합니다. 9그러므로 우리는 여러분의 소식을 들은 그날부터 쉬지 않고 여러분을 위해 기도하고 있습니다. 우리는 하나님께서 여러분을 모든 영적 지혜와 깨달음으로 채워 주시어, 여러분이 하나님의 뜻을 헤아리게 되기를 빕니다. 10우리가 이렇게 기도하는 것은, 여러분이 주님께 속한 사람다운 삶을 살며 모든 면에서 그분을 기쁘게 해 드리게 하려는 것입니다. 곧 여러분이 온갖 선한 일을 하여 열매를 맺으며 하나님을 더욱 잘 알게 하려는 것입니다. 11여러분이 그분의 영광스러운 권능에서 큰 힘을 받아 어려움을 참고 견딜 수 있게 되기를 빕니다. 그리고 기쁜 마음으로 12아버지께 감사드리기를 빕니다. 빛의 왕국에서 사는 성도*들이 받을 유산을 여러분도 나누어 받게 해 주신 분이 아버지이십니다. 13하나님께서는 우리를 어둠의 세력에서 구해 내시어, 당신께서 사랑하시는 아드님(예수)의 왕국으로 옮겨 주셨습니다. 14그 아드님은 우리를 죄에서 해방시켜 주시려고 값을 치르셨습니다. 우리는 그분 안에서 죄를 용서받았습니다.
그리스도를 보는 것이 하나님을 보는 것이다 15어느 누구도 하나님을 눈으로 뵐 수 없으나, 그리스도는 눈으로 뵐 수 있는 하나님의 형상이시며 모든 창조물보다 뛰어나신 분입니다. 16하늘과 땅에 있는 모든 것들, 곧 보이는 것뿐 아니라 왕권이나 주권이나 권력이나 권세처럼 눈에 보이지 않는 것들까지도 모두 그분의 힘으로 창조되었기 때문입니다. 모든 것이 그분(그리스도)을 통해서, 그리고 그분을 위해서 창조되었습니다. 17그분은 모든 것이 생기기 전에 이미 계셨고, 모든 것은 그분으로 인해 유지됩니다. 18그분은 당신의 몸인 교회의 머리이시며, 모든 것의 시작이십니다. 그리고 모든 것의 으뜸이 되시려고 죽은 자들 가운데서 가장 먼저 살아나셨습니다. 19하나님께서는 기꺼이 당신의 온전한 본성을 그리스도께 주시고, 20그리스도를 통하여 하늘과 땅에 있는 모든 것을 당신 자신과 화해시키셨습니다. 곧 십자가에서 흘리신 그리스도의 피를 통하여 평화를 이룩하셨습니다. 21전에 여러분은 악한 행실 때문에 하나님께로부터 멀어져 있었습니다. 그리고 마음으로 하나님과 원수가 되어 있었습니다. 22그러나 이제는 하나님께서 그리스도의 몸을 죽이심으로써 여러분을 당신과 화해시키셨습니다. 그것은, 여러분을 흠 없고 나무랄 데 없는 거룩한 백성*으로 당신 앞에 서게 하시려는 것입니다. 23물론 여러분이 흔들림 없는 믿음의 터 위에 굳게 서서, 이미 들은 기쁜 소식의 희망을 저버리지 않아야 그렇게 될 것입니다. 이 기쁜 소식은 하늘 아래 있는 모든 피조물에게 전해졌으며, 나 바울은 그 기쁜 소식을 전하는 일꾼이 되었습니다.
교회를 위한 바울의 활동 24나는 지금 여러분을 위하여 고통을 겪고 있지만, 오히려 그것을 기쁨으로 여기고 있습니다. 나는 그리스도의 몸인 교회를 위하여, 그리스도께서 못다 하신 고난을 내 몸으로 마저 채우고 있습니다. 25나는 하나님께서 여러분을 위하여 내게 맡기신 사명에 따라 교회의 종이 되었습니다. 그 사명은 여러분에게 하나님의 소식을 남김없이 전하는 것입니다. 26이 소식은 과거의 모든 세기와 모든 세대에게 비밀로 숨겨져 있었으나, 이제는 그분의 성도*들에게 밝히 드러낸 바가 되었습니다. 27하나님께서는, 이방 사람*도 그리스도의 부와 영광을 누리게 되어 있다는 것을, 당신의 성도들에게 알리기로 하셨습니다. 그러므로 숨겨진 비밀이란, 그리스도께서 여러분 안에 살고 계시다는 것입니다. 그리고 그 때문에 우리도 하나님의 영광을 누리게 되리라는 희망을 가질 수 있습니다. 28우리는 이 예수를 전합니다. 우리는 온갖 지혜를 다해 모든 사람을 가르치고 타이릅니다. 모든 사람을 그리스도와의 관계에 있어서 완전한 사람이 되게 하여 하나님 앞에 내세우려는 것입니다. 29그러기 위해서 나는, 내 안에서 힘차게 일하시는 그리스도의 모든 힘으로 애쓰며 일하고 있습니다. |
