A Warning to Rich and Selfish People1You rich people, listen! Cry and be very sad because much trouble will come to you. 2Your riches will rot and be worth nothing. Your clothes will be eaten by moths. 3Your gold and silver will rust, and that rust will be a proof that you were wrong. That rust will eat your bodies like fire. You saved your treasure in the last days. 4People worked in your fields, but you did not pay them. They are crying out against you. They harvested your crops. Now the Lord All-Powerful has heard their cries. 5Your life on earth was full of rich living. You pleased yourselves with everything you wanted. You made yourselves fat, like an animal ready for the day of slaughter.* 6You showed no mercy to good people. They were not against you, but you killed them.
Be Patient 7Brothers and sisters, be patient; the Lord will come. So be patient until that time. Look at the farmers. They have to be patient. They have to wait for their valuable crop to grow and produce a harvest. They wait patiently for the first rain and the last rain*. 8You must be patient too. Never stop hoping. The Lord is coming soon. 9Brothers and sisters, don’t complain against each other. If you don’t stop complaining, you will be judged guilty. And the Judge is ready to come! 10Brothers and sisters, follow the example of the prophets* who spoke for the Lord. They suffered many bad things, but they were patient. 11And we say that those who accepted their troubles with patience now have God’s blessing. You have heard about Job’s patience*. You know that after all his troubles, the Lord helped him. This shows that the Lord is full of mercy and is kind.
Be Careful What You Say 12My brothers and sisters, it is very important that you not use an oath when you make a promise. Don’t use the name of heaven, earth, or anything else to prove what you say. When you mean yes, say only “yes.” When you mean no, say only “no.” Do this so that you will not be judged guilty.
The Power of Prayer 13Are you having troubles? You should pray. Are you happy? You should sing. 14Are you sick? Ask the elders* of the church* to come and rub oil on you* in the name of the Lord and pray for you. 15If such a prayer is offered in faith, it will heal anyone who is sick. The Lord will heal them. And if they have sinned, he will forgive them. 16So always tell each other the wrong things you have done. Then pray for each other. Do this so that God can heal you. Anyone who lives the way God wants can pray, and great things will happen. 17Elijah* was a person just like us. He prayed that it would not rain. And it did not rain on the land for three and a half years! 18Then Elijah prayed that it would rain. And the rain came down from the sky, and the land grew crops again.
Helping People When They Sin 19My brothers and sisters, if anyone wanders away from the truth and someone helps that person come back, 20remember this: Anyone who brings a sinner back from the wrong way will save that person from eternal death and cause many sins to be forgiven. |

참고 기다려라 7형제자매 여러분, 주께서 오실 때까지 참고 기다리십시오. 농부가 땅에서 귀한 곡식을 얻기까지 어떻게 기다리는지 보십시오. 그가 가을비와 봄비를 얼마나 참을성 있게 기다리는지 보십시오. 8여러분도 오래 참고 마음을 굳게 가지십시오. 주께서 오실 날이 가까이 왔기 때문입니다. 9형제자매 여러분, 심판받지 않으려거든 서로에게 불평하지 마십시오. 보십시오! 심판하실 분께서 문 앞에 서 계십니다. 10형제자매 여러분, 주님의 이름으로 예언했던 예언자*들을 본받으십시오. 그들은 어려움 가운데서도 참아 냈습니다. 11우리는 고통을 이겨 낸 사람들을 복 받은 사람들이라고 생각합니다. 여러분은 욥이 어떻게 참고 견디었는지 들었고, 또 주께서 마침내 그에게 어떻게 하셨는지 보았습니다. 주님은 사랑과 자비가 넘치는 분이십니다.*
말을 조심하라 12형제자매 여러분, 결코 맹세하지 마십시오. 하늘이나 땅이나 다른 어떤 것을 걸고도 맹세하지 마십시오. “그렇다.”라고 말하고 싶으면 “그렇다.”라고 말하십시오. “아니다.”라고 말하고 싶으면 그냥 “아니다.”라고 말하십시오. 그렇게 하지 않으면 하나님의 심판을 받을 것입니다.
기도의 힘 13여러분 가운데 어려움을 겪는 사람이 있습니까? 그런 사람은 기도하십시오. 행복한 사람이 있습니까? 그 사람은 찬송을 부르십시오. 14아픈 사람이 있습니까? 그 사람은 교회의 장로들을 부르십시오. 장로들은 주님의 이름으로 그 사람을 위해서 기도하고 그에게 기름을 바르십시오. 15믿고 드리는 기도는 아픈 사람을 낫게 합니다. 주께서 그 사람을 일으켜 주실 것입니다. 그가 죄를 지었다면 용서해 주실 것입니다. 16그러므로 서로에게 죄를 고백하고, 서로를 위해서 기도하십시오. 그렇게 하여 여러분이 고침을 받도록 하십시오. 의로운 사람이 드리는 간절한 기도는 강력한 효과를 나타냅니다. 17엘리야*는 우리와 똑같은 사람이었습니다. 그러나 그가 비가 내리지 않도록 간절히 기도하자, 삼 년 반 동안 비가 내리지 않았습니다. 18그가 다시 기도하자, 하늘은 비를 내렸고 땅에서는 곡식이 열매를 맺었습니다.
죄인을 구하는 일 19형제자매 여러분, 만일 여러분 가운데 한 사람이 진리를 떠나 그릇된 길을 갈 때에, 누가 그를 바른 길로 돌아서게 한다고 합시다. 20그때에 여러분은 다음과 같은 사실을 꼭 기억하십시오. 곧 누구든지 죄인을 그릇된 길에서 돌아서게 하는 사람은, 그 죄인을 죽음에서 구할 것이고 또 그의 많은 죄를 용서받게 해 주리라는 것입니다. |
