Spiritual Treasure in Clay Jars1God, with his mercy, gave us this work to do, so we don’t give up. 2But we have turned away from secret and shameful ways. We don’t use trickery, and we don’t change the teaching of God. We teach the truth plainly. This is how we show people who we are. And this is how they can know in their hearts what kind of people we are before God. 3The Good News* that we tell people may be hidden, but it is hidden only to those who are lost. 4The ruler* of this world* has blinded the minds of those who don’t believe. They cannot see the light of the Good News - the message about the divine greatness* of Christ. Christ is the one who is exactly like God. 5We don’t tell people about ourselves. But we tell people that Jesus Christ is Lord, and we tell them that we are your servants for Jesus. 6God once said, “Let light shine out of the darkness!”* And this is the same God who made his light shine in our hearts to let us know that his own divine greatness is seen in the face of Christ. 7We have this treasure from God, but we are only like clay jars that hold the treasure. This is to show that the amazing power we have is from God, not from us. 8We have troubles all around us, but we are not defeated. We often don’t know what to do, but we don’t give up. 9We are persecuted*, but God does not leave us. We are hurt sometimes, but we are not destroyed. 10So we constantly experience the death of Jesus in our own bodies, but this is so that the life of Jesus can also be seen in our bodies. 11We are alive, but for Jesus we are always in danger of death, so that the life of Jesus can be seen in our bodies that die. 12So death is working in us, but the result is that life is working in you. 13The Scriptures* say, “I believed, so I spoke.”* Our faith is like that too. We believe, and so we speak. 14God raised the Lord Jesus from death, and we know that he will also raise us with Jesus. God will bring us together with you, and we will stand before him. 15All these things are for you. And so the grace* of God is being given to more and more people. This will bring more and more thanks to God for his glory*.
Living by Faith 16That is why we never give up. Our physical body is becoming older and weaker, but our spirit inside us is made new every day. 17We have small troubles for a while now, but these troubles are helping us gain an eternal glory*. That eternal glory is much greater than our troubles. 18So we think about what we cannot see, not what we see. What we see lasts only a short time, and what we cannot see will last forever. |

질그릇에 담긴 신령한 보화 1이처럼 하나님께서 자비를 베풀어 우리에게 이 일을 맡기셨으니, 우리는 결코 용기를 잃지 않습니다. 2우리는 비밀스럽고 수치스러운 방법을 거부합니다. 우리는 누구에게도 속임수를 쓰지 않으며, 하나님의 말씀을 비뚤어지게 전하지도 않습니다. 오히려 우리는 진리를 꾸밈없이 그대로 가르침으로써, 하나님 앞에서 모든 사람의 양심에 우리 스스로를 떳떳하게 내세웁니다. 3우리가 전하는 기쁜 소식*이 너울에 가려져 있다고 하면, 그것은 멸망할 사람들에게만 가려져 있는 것입니다. 4이 세상의 통치자인 사탄이 믿지 않는 사람들의 마음을 가려서, 그리스도의 영광에 관하여 우리가 전하는 기쁜 소식*의 빛(진리)을 보지 못하게 한 것입니다. 그리스도는 하나님을 꼭 닮은 분이십니다. 5우리는 우리 자신에 대한 것을 전하지 않습니다. 우리는 예수 그리스도께서 주님이시라는 것과, 우리가 예수를 위해서 여러분의 종이 되었다는 것을 전합니다. 6하나님께서는 “어둠 속에 빛이 비치게 하라.”고 말씀하신 적이 있습니다. 그 하나님께서 당신의 빛으로 우리의 마음속을 비추셔서, 그리스도의 얼굴에 나타난 하나님의 영광을 알게 하는 깨달음의 빛을 우리에게 주셨습니다. 7우리가 이 귀중한 보물을 가지고 있으나, 우리는 깨지기 쉬운 진흙 항아리와 같습니다. 그러므로 누구든지, 이 위대한 능력이 하나님께로부터 나오는 것이지 우리에게서 나오는 것이 아니라는 것을 알 수 있습니다. 8우리는 사면으로 어려움을 당하고 있지만 결코 무너지지 않습니다. 우리는 때로 어찌할 바를 몰라 당황하나 결코 절망하지 않습니다. 9박해*를 받으나, 하나님께서는 결코 우리를 버리지 않으십니다. 때로 거꾸러뜨림을 당하나, 우리는 다시 일어나서 하던 일을 계속합니다. 10이러한 고통을 통하여 우리의 몸은 그리스도의 죽음을 끊임없이 나누어 집니다. 그것은, 예수의 생명이 우리의 몸에서 드러나게 하려는 것입니다. 11우리는 살아 있으나, 예수를 위해 언제나 죽음의 위험을 안고 살아갑니다. 이런 일이 우리에게 있는 것은, 예수의 생명이 우리의 죽을 몸에서 분명히 드러나게 하려는 것입니다. 12그래서 우리는 죽음의 위험 속에서 살고 있으나, 그 결과로 여러분은 영원한 생명을 얻게 되었습니다. 13성경에 이렇게 쓰여 있습니다. “나는 믿었다. 그러므로 나는 말하였다.”* 우리의 믿음의 정신* 또한 그와 같습니다. 우리도 믿습니다. 그러므로 말합니다. 14우리는, 주 예수를 죽음에서 살리신 하나님께서, 예수와 더불어 우리도 살리셔서, 여러분과 함께 우리를 당신 앞에 세워 주시리라는 것을 알고 있습니다. 15이 모든 일이 다 여러분을 위하여 일어났습니다. 그리하여 점점 더 많은 사람이 하나님의 은혜를 받고, 감사하는 마음이 넘쳐서, 하나님께 영광이 돌아가게 하려는 것입니다.
믿음으로 사는 것 16그러므로 우리는 결코 용기를 잃지 않습니다. 우리의 겉모습은 점점 늙고 야위어 가지만, 우리의 속사람은 날마다 새로워집니다. 17우리는 지금 가벼운 어려움을 잠시 겪고 있습니다만, 그 때문에 지금 당하고 있는 어려움과는 비교도 할 수 없이 큰 영원한 영광을 얻게 됩니다. 18그래서 우리는 지금 눈에 보이는 어려움은 바라보지 않고 보이지 않는 것을 바라봅니다. 보이는 것은 잠깐이지만, 보이지 않는 것은 영원하기 때문입니다. |
