A Story About Ten Girls1“At that time God’s kingdom* will be like ten girls who went to wait for the bridegroom*. They took their lamps with them. 2Five of the girls were foolish, and five were wise. 3The foolish girls took their lamps with them, but they did not take extra oil for the lamps. 4The wise girls took their lamps and more oil in jars. 5When the bridegroom was very late, the girls could not keep their eyes open, and they all fell asleep. 6“At midnight someone announced, ‘The bridegroom is coming! Come and meet him!’ 7“Then all the girls woke up. They made their lamps ready. 8But the foolish girls said to the wise girls, ‘Give us some of your oil. The oil in our lamps is all gone.’ 9“The wise girls answered, ‘No! The oil we have might not be enough for all of us. But go to those who sell oil and buy some for yourselves.’ 10“So the foolish girls went to buy oil. While they were gone, the bridegroom came. The girls who were ready went in with the bridegroom to the wedding feast. Then the door was closed and locked. 11“Later, the other girls came. They said, ‘Sir, sir! Open the door to let us in.’ 12“But the bridegroom answered, ‘Certainly not! I don’t even know you.’ 13“So always be ready. You don’t know the day or the time when the Son of Man* will come.
A Story About Three Servants (Lk. 19:11-27) 14“At that time God’s kingdom* will also be like a man leaving home to travel to another place for a visit. Before he left, he talked with his servants. He told his servants to take care of his things while he was gone. 15He decided how much each servant would be able to care for. The man gave one servant five bags of money*. He gave another servant two bags. And he gave a third servant one bag. Then he left. 16The servant who got five bags went quickly to invest the money. Those five bags of money earned five more. 17It was the same with the servant who had two bags. That servant invested the money and earned two more. 18But the servant who got one bag of money went away and dug a hole in the ground. Then he hid his master’s money in the hole. 19“After a long time the master came home. He asked the servants what they did with his money. 20The servant who got five bags brought that amount and five more bags of money to the master. The servant said, ‘Master, you trusted me to care for five bags of money. So I used them to earn five more.’ 21“The master answered, ‘You did right. You are a good servant who can be trusted. You did well with that small amount of money. So I will let you care for much greater things. Come and share my happiness with me.’ 22“Then the servant who got two bags of money came to the master. The servant said, ‘Master, you gave me two bags of money to care for. So I used your two bags to earn two more.’ 23“The master answered, ‘You did right. You are a good servant who can be trusted. You did well with a small amount of money. So I will let you care for much greater things. Come and share my happiness with me.’ 24“Then the servant who got one bag of money came to the master. The servant said, ‘Master, I knew you were a very hard man. You harvest what you did not plant. You gather crops where you did not put any seed. 25So I was afraid. I went and hid your money in the ground. Here is the one bag of money you gave me.’ 26“The master answered, ‘You are a bad and lazy servant! You say you knew that I harvest what I did not plant and that I gather crops where I did not put any seed. 27So you should have put my money in the bank. Then, when I came home, I would get my money back. And I would also get the interest that my money earned.’ 28“So the master told his other servants, ‘Take the one bag of money from that servant and give it to the servant who has ten bags. 29Everyone who uses what they have will get more. They will have much more than they need. But people who do not use what they have will have everything taken away from them.’ 30Then the master said, ‘Throw that useless servant outside into the darkness, where people will cry and grind their teeth with pain.’
The Son of Man Will Judge All People 31“The Son of Man* will come again with divine greatness*, and all his angels will come with him. He will sit as king on his great and glorious throne. 32All the people of the world will be gathered before him. Then he will separate everyone into two groups. It will be like a shepherd separating his sheep from his goats. 33He will put the sheep on his right and the goats on his left. 34“Then the king will say to the godly people on his right, ‘Come, my Father has great blessings for you. The kingdom* he promised is now yours. It has been prepared for you since the world was made. 35It is yours because when I was hungry, you gave me food to eat. When I was thirsty, you gave me something to drink. When I had no place to stay, you welcomed me into your home. 36When I was without clothes, you gave me something to wear. When I was sick, you cared for me. When I was in prison, you came to visit me.’ 37“Then the godly people will answer, ‘Lord, when did we see you hungry and give you food? When did we see you thirsty and give you something to drink? 38When did we see you with no place to stay and welcome you into our home? When did we see you without clothes and give you something to wear? 39When did we see you sick or in prison and care for you?’ 40“Then the king will answer, ‘The truth is, anything you did for any of my people here*, you also did for me.’ 41“Then the king will say to the evil people on his left, ‘Get away from me. God has already decided that you will be punished. Go into the fire that burns forever - the fire that was prepared for the devil and his angels. 42You must go away because when I was hungry, you gave me nothing to eat. When I was thirsty, you gave me nothing to drink. 43When I had no place to stay, you did not welcome me into your home. When I was without clothes, you gave me nothing to wear. When I was sick and in prison, you did not care for me.’ 44“Then those people will answer, ‘Lord, when did we see you hungry or thirsty? When did we see you without a place to stay? Or when did we see you without clothes or sick or in prison? When did we see any of this and not help you?’ 45“The king will answer, ‘The truth is, anything you refused to do for any of my people here, you refused to do for me.’ 46“Then these evil people will go away to be punished forever. But the godly people will go and enjoy eternal life.” |

열 처녀 이야기 1그때에 하늘나라는 신랑을 맞으러 나가는 열 처녀에 비길 수 있을 것이다. 처녀들은 등을 들고 나갔다. 2그 가운데 다섯 처녀는 어리석었고, 나머지 다섯 처녀는 슬기로웠다. 3어리석은 처녀들은 등은 들고 갔으나, 기름 항아리는 들고 가지 않았다. 4슬기로운 처녀들은 등도 가지고 가고, 기름을 담은 항아리도 들고 갔다. 5늦도록 기다렸으나 신랑은 오지 않고 처녀들은 모두 지쳐서 졸다가 잠이 들었다. 6그런데 밤이 깊었을 때 누군가가 소리쳤다. ‘신랑이 오신다! 모두들 나가서 그분을 맞아라!’ 7그러자 처녀들이 모두 잠에서 깨어 제각기 등불을 준비했다. 8그러나 어리석은 처녀들은 슬기로운 처녀들에게 ‘우리의 등불이 꺼져 가니 너희가 갖고 있는 기름을 조금만 나누어 다오.’ 하고 말하였다. 9슬기로운 처녀들이 대답하였다. ‘안 되겠어! 너희에게 기름을 나누어 주면 우리에게도 또 너희에게도 모두 모자랄지 몰라. 그러니 기름 파는 사람한테 가서 기름을 사는 게 좋겠다.’ 10그래서 어리석은 다섯 처녀는 기름을 사러 갔다. 그들이 기름을 사러 간 사이에 신랑이 왔다. 등불을 켜고 기다리고 있던 처녀들이 신랑과 함께 혼인 잔치에 들어가자 문이 닫혔다. 11그 뒤에 기름을 사러 갔던 처녀들이 왔다. 이 처녀들은 ‘주님, 주님, 문 좀 열어 주세요.’ 하고 애원하였다. 12그러나 신랑은 ‘분명히 말하지만, 나는 너희를 알지 못한다.’라고 대답하였다. 13그러니 항상 깨어 있어라. 너희는 사람의 아들*이 어느 날 어느 시간에 올지 모르기 때문이다.
세 종의 비유 (눅 19:11-27) 14또 하늘나라는 이런 사람에 비길 수 있다. 어떤 사람이 길을 떠나기에 앞서, 종들에게 자기가 없는 동안에 자기 재산을 잘 관리하라고 일렀다. 15그는 각 사람의 능력에 따라, 첫째 종에게 다섯 달란트*를 주고, 둘째 종에게는 두 달란트를 주고, 셋째 종에게는 한 달란트를 주었다. 그러고 나서 그는 길을 떠났다. 16다섯 달란트를 맡은 종은 서둘러 돈을 불리러 갔다. 그래서 다섯 달란트가 열 달란트로 늘어났다. 17두 달란트를 맡은 종도 첫째 종과 똑같이 하였다. 그가 맡은 두 달란트가 이제 네 달란트로 늘었다. 18그러나 한 달란트를 맡은 셋째 종은 땅에 구덩이를 파고 주인의 돈을 거기에 묻었다. 19오랜 뒤에 주인이 돌아와 종들과 셈을 하게 되었다. 20먼저 다섯 달란트를 받았던 종은 자기가 따로 모은 다섯 달란트를 함께 가지고 와서 말하였다. ‘주인어른, 어르신께서 저에게 다섯 달란트를 맡기셨습니다. 저는 그 돈을 가지고 다섯 달란트를 더 벌었습니다.’ 21주인이 대답하였다. ‘잘했다. 너는 믿을 만한 착한 종이구나. 네가 작은 일을 충실하게 하였으니, 너에게 훨씬 큰 일을 맡기겠다. 와서 나와 함께 기쁨을 나누자.’ 22그 다음 두 달란트를 맡았던 종이 주인에게 와서 말하였다. ‘주인어른, 어른께서 저에게 두 달란트를 맡기셨습니다. 저는 그 돈을 가지고 두 달란트를 더 벌었습니다.’ 23주인이 대답하였다. ‘잘했다. 너는 믿을 만한 착한 종이구나. 너는 작은 일을 충실하게 하였으니, 너에게 훨씬 큰 일을 맡기겠다. 와서 나와 함께 기쁨을 나누자.’ 24그리고 나서 한 달란트를 맡았던 종이 주인에게 와서 말하였다. ‘주인어른, 어른께서는 아주 엄한 분이십니다. 어른께서는 심지 않은 곳에서도 거두시고, 씨 뿌리지 않은 곳에서도 곡식을 모으십니다. 25저는 그 돈을 잃지나 않을까 겁이 났습니다. 그래서 주인어른의 돈을 땅에 묻어 두었습니다. 받으십시오. 어른께서 주신 한 달란트입니다.’ 26주인이 대답하였다. ‘너는 게으르고 악한 종이구나! 너는 내가 심지 않은 곳에서도 거두고, 씨 뿌리지 않은 곳에서도 곡식을 모은다고 말하였다. 27그렇다면 네가 내 돈을 은행에 넣어 두었어야 마땅하다. 그러면 내가 돌아왔을 때, 내 돈을 다시 찾고 또 내 돈에서 불어난 이자도 함께 받을 수 있었을 것이다. 28이 종이 가지고 있는 돈을 빼앗아서 열 달란트를 가진 종에게 주어라. 29누구든지 자기가 가진 것을 잘 쓰는 사람은 더 얻을 것이다. 그 사람은 자기가 필요한 것보다 훨씬 많은 것을 얻을 것이다. 그러나 자기가 가진 것을 쓰지 않는 사람은 가진 것조차 모두 빼앗길 것이다. 30이 종은 아무짝에도 쓸모가 없는 자이다. 그를 바깥 어두운 곳으로 내쫓아라! 거기서 슬피 울며 이를 갈 것이다.’
사람의 아들이 모든 사람을 심판할 것이다 31사람의 아들*이 영광에 둘러싸여서 천사들과 더불어 올 때에, 그는 하늘의 영광 가운데 자기의 보좌에 앉을 것이다. 32그는 모든 민족을 자기 앞으로 불러 모아 목자가 양과 염소를 가르듯이, 그들을 두 무리로 갈라놓을 것이다. 33그는 양들은 자기의 오른쪽으로 염소들은 왼쪽으로 세울 것이다. 34그때에 임금은 오른쪽에 있는 사람들에게 말할 것이다. ‘오너라. 내 아버지께서 너희에게 큰 복을 내리셨다. 와서, 하나님께서 약속하신 나라를 차지하여라. 이 나라는 세상이 만들어질 때부터 너희를 위해 준비하여 둔 것이다. 35너희는 내가 배고플 때에 먹을 것을 주었고, 내가 목마를 때에 마실 것을 주었다. 내가 집을 떠나 홀로 있을 때에 너희는 나를 너희 집으로 초대하였다. 36내가 입을 옷이 없을 때에 너희는 입을 것을 주었고, 내가 아플 때에 너희는 나를 돌봐 주었으며, 내가 감옥에 있을 때에 나를 찾아와 주었다.’ 37그때에 의로운 사람들이 대답할 것이다. ‘주님, 언제 저희가 주께서 배고픈 것을 보고 먹을 것을 드렸습니까? 언제 주께서 목마르신 것을 보고 마실 것을 드렸습니까? 38언제 주께서 집을 떠나 홀로 계신 것을 보고 저희 집으로 초대하였습니까? 언제 주께서 입을 것이 없는 것을 보고 입을 것을 드렸습니까? 39언제 주께서 병드시거나, 감옥에 계신 것을 보고 주를 찾아뵈었습니까?’ 40임금은 이렇게 대답할 것이다. ‘너희에게 분명히 말한다. 너희가 여기 있는 내 형제자매* 가운데 가장 보잘 것 없는 사람 하나에게 베푼 것이, 바로 내게 베푼 것이다.’ 41임금은 왼쪽에 있는 사람들에게 말할 것이다. ‘이 저주 받은 자들아 내게서 떠나라. 하나님께서 악마와 그 졸개들을 가두려고 마련한 영원히 꺼지지 않는 불 속으로 들어가거라. 42너희는 내가 배고플 때에 먹을 것을 주지 않았으며, 내가 목마를 때에 마실 것을 주지 않았다. 43너희는 내가 집을 떠나 홀로 있을 때에 나를 너희 집에 초대하지 않았고, 내가 입을 것이 없을 때에 나에게 입을 것을 주지 않았으며, 내가 아플 때와 감옥에 있을 때에 나를 돌보지 않았다.’ 44그때에 그들이 대답할 것이다. ‘주님, 언제 우리가 주께서 배고프시고 목마르신 것을 보았습니까? 언제 우리가 주께서 집을 떠나 홀로 계신 것을 보았습니까? 그리고 언제 우리가 주께서 입을 것이 없거나 병들거나 감옥에 계신 것을 보았습니까? 우리가 언제 그런 일들이 있을 때 주를 도와드리지 않았습니까?’ 45그때에 임금이 말할 것이다. ‘너희에게 분명히 말한다. 너희가 여기 있는 이 사람들 가운데 가장 보잘 것 없는 한 사람에게 하지 않은 것이, 곧 내게 하지 않은 것이다.’ 46그리하여 그들은 영원한 벌을 받을 것이다. 그러나 의로운 사람들은 영원한 생명의 나라로 들어갈 것이다.” |
