| 1Greetings from the Elder*.
To the lady* chosen by God and to her children.
I truly love all of you. And I am not the only one. All those who know the truth* love you in the same way. 2We love you because of the truth - the truth that lives in us. That truth will be with us forever. 3Grace*, mercy, and peace will be with us from God the Father and from his Son, Jesus Christ, as we live in truth and love. 4I was very happy to learn about some of your children. I am happy that they are following the way of truth, just as the Father commanded us. 5And now, dear lady, I tell you: We should all love each other. This is not a new command. It is the same command we had from the beginning. 6And loving means living the way he commanded us to live. And God’s command is this: that you live a life of love. You heard this command from the beginning. 7Many false teachers are in the world now. They refuse to say that Jesus Christ came to earth and became a man. Anyone who refuses to accept this fact is a false teacher and the enemy of Christ. 8Be careful! Don’t lose the reward we* have worked for. Be careful so that you will receive all of that reward. 9Everyone must continue to follow only the teaching about Christ. Whoever changes that teaching does not have God. But whoever continues to follow the teaching about Christ has both the Father and his Son. 10Don’t accept those who come to you but do not bring this teaching. Don’t invite them into your house. Don’t welcome them in any way. 11If you do, you are helping them with their evil work. 12I have much to say to you. But I don’t want to use paper and ink. Instead, I hope to come visit you. Then we can be together and talk. That will make us very happy. 13The children of your sister* who was chosen by God send you their love. |

| 1장로인 나는 택하심을 받은 부인과 부인의 자녀들에게 이 편지를 씁니다. 나는 진리 안에서 여러분 모두를 사랑합니다. 나뿐 아니라 진리를 아는 모든 사람이 여러분을 사랑합니다. 2우리가 여러분을 사랑하는 것은, 지금도 우리 안에 살고 있으며 영원히 우리와 함께 있을 그 진리 때문입니다. 3아버지 하나님과 그분의 아들 예수 그리스도께서 내려 주시는 은혜와 자비와 평화가, 진리와 사랑 안에서 우리와 함께 있을 것입니다. 4그대의 자녀들 가운데 아버지(하나님)께서 우리에게 명하신 대로 진리를 좇아 사는 사람들이 있다는 것을 알고 나는 무척 기뻤습니다. 5사랑하는 부인*이여, 내가 이제 그대에게 간절히 부탁합니다. 우리 모두 서로를 사랑합시다. 이것은 내가 새로이 써 보내는 계명이 아니라, 처음부터 우리에게 있었던 계명입니다. 6사랑은 다름 아니라 하나님의 계명을 따라 사는 것입니다. 그리고 그 계명은 여러분이 처음부터 들은 대로 사랑 안에 살아야 한다는 것입니다. 7많은 거짓 선생들이 세상으로 나갔습니다. 이들은 예수 그리스도께서 사람의 몸으로 오셨다는 것을 인정하지 않습니다. 그런 사람은 모두 속이는 자이고 그리스도의 적입니다. 8조심하십시오! 조심하여, 우리가* 얻으려고 애써 온 것을 잃지 않고, 받아야 할 상을 다 받도록 하십시오. 9누구든지 그리스도의 가르침 안에 머물지 않고 앞질러 나가는 사람은 하나님을 모시지 않은 사람입니다. 그러나 그 가르침 안에 머무는 사람은 아버지와 아들 두 분을 다 모시고 있는 사람입니다. 10만일 누가 여러분을 찾아가서 이 교훈과 다른 것을 전하거든, 그런 사람은 집에 들이지도 말고 반갑게 맞이하지도 마십시오. 11그런 자를 반갑게 맞이하는 것은 그가 하는 악한 일에 참여하는 것입니다. 12내가 여러분에게 쓸 말이 많습니다. 그러나 종이와 먹으로 써 보내고 싶지 않습니다. 차라리 내가 여러분을 찾아가서 얼굴을 마주 보며 이야기를 나누고 싶습니다. 그렇게 하여 우리의 기쁨이 넘치게 하려는 것입니다. 13하나님께 택하심을 받은 그대의 자매*의 자녀들이 그대에게 문안합니다. |
