John Warns Against False Teachers1My dear friends, many false prophets* are in the world now. So don’t believe every spirit, but test the spirits to see if they are from God. 2This is how you can recognize God’s Spirit. One spirit says, “I believe that Jesus is the Messiah* who came to earth and became a man.” That Spirit is from God. 3Another spirit refuses to say this about Jesus. That spirit is not from God. This is the spirit of the enemy of Christ. You have heard that the enemy of Christ is coming, and now he is already in the world. 4My dear children, you belong to God, so you have already defeated these false prophets. That’s because the one who is in you is greater than the one who is in the world. 5And they belong to the world, so what they say is from the world too. And the world listens to what they say. 6But we are from God. So the people who know God listen to us. But the people who are not from God don’t listen to us. This is how we know the Spirit that is true and the spirit that is false.
Love Comes From God 7Dear friends, we should love each other, because love comes from God. Everyone who loves has become God’s child. And so everyone who loves knows God. 8Anyone who does not love does not know God, because God is love. 9This is how God showed his love to us: He sent his only Son into the world to give us life through him. 10True love is God’s love for us, not our love for God. He sent his Son as the way to take away our sins. 11That is how much God loved us, dear friends! So we also must love each other. 12No one has ever seen God. But if we love each other, God lives in us. If we love each other, God’s love has reached its goal - it is made perfect in us. 13We know that we live in God and God lives in us. We know this because he gave us his Spirit*. 14We have seen that the Father sent his Son to be the Savior of the world, and this is what we tell people now. 15Anyone who says, “I believe that Jesus is the Son of God,” is a person who lives in God, and God lives in that person. 16So we know the love that God has for us, and we trust that love.
God is love. Everyone who lives in love lives in God, and God lives in them. 17If God’s love is made perfect in us, we can be without fear on the day when God judges the world. We will be without fear, because in this world we are like Jesus*. 18Where God’s love is, there is no fear, because God’s perfect love takes away fear. It is his punishment that makes a person fear. So his love is not made perfect in the one who has fear. 19We love because God first loved us. 20If we say we love God but hate any of our brothers or sisters in his family, we are liars. If we don’t love someone we have seen, how can we love God? We have never even seen him. 21God gave us this command: If we love God, we must also love each other as brothers and sisters. |

거짓 선지자들에 대한 경고 1사랑하는 여러분, 많은 거짓 예언자들*이 세상으로 나갔습니다. 그러니 하나님께 영감을 받았다고 주장하는 사람*을 모두 믿지는 마십시오. 그들이 정말로 하나님께로부터 왔는지 시험해 보십시오. 2하나님께로부터 온 사람은 이렇게 알 수 있습니다. “예수는 이 세상에 오신 그리스도이시다. 그리고 그분은 사람의 몸을 입고 오셨다.”라고 고백하는 예언자는 모두 하나님께로부터 온 사람입니다. 3그러나 예수께 대하여 이렇게 말하지 않는 예언자는 하나님께로부터 오지 않았습니다. 그 예언자는 그리스도의 적의 영을 가진 자입니다. 여러분은 그리스도의 적이 세상에 오리라는 말을 들었을 것입니다. 그가 이미 지금 여기에 와 있습니다. 4사랑하는 나의 자녀들이여, 여러분은 하나님께로부터 났고, 이 거짓 예언자들을 이겨 냈습니다. 여러분 안에 계시는 그분은 세상에 와 있는 자보다 크시기 때문입니다. 5그들은 세상에 속하기 때문에 세속적인 관점에서 말하고, 세상 사람들은 그들의 말에 귀를 기울입니다. 6그러나 우리는 하나님께 속합니다. 누구든지 하나님을 아는 사람은 우리의 말에 귀를 기울입니다. 그러나 누구든지 하나님께 속하지 않은 사람은 우리의 말에 귀를 기울이지 않습니다. 이로써 우리는 어떤 사람이 진리의 성령을 가졌는지 거짓의 영을 가졌는지 가릴 수 있습니다.
하나님은 사랑의 근원이시다 7사랑하는 여러분, 우리는 서로 사랑합시다. 사랑은 하나님께로부터 옵니다. 사랑하는 사람은 모두 하나님께로부터 났고 하나님을 압니다. 8누구든지 사랑하지 않는 사람은 하나님을 알지 못합니다. 하나님은 사랑이시기 때문입니다. 9하나님은 하나뿐인 당신의 아들을 세상에 보내셔서, 우리로 하여금 아들을 통해서 생명을 얻게 하셨습니다. 이렇게 해서 하나님께서는 우리에 대한 사랑을 드러내셨습니다. 10이제 이것이 진정한 사랑이니, 곧 우리가 하나님을 사랑한 것이 아니라, 하나님께서 우리를 사랑하셔서 우리의 죄를 없애 주시려고 당신의 아들을 희생 제물*로 보내신 것입니다. 11사랑하는 여러분, 하나님이 우리를 이처럼 사랑하시니 우리도 서로 사랑해야 합니다. 12하나님을 본 사람은 아무도 없습니다. 그러나 우리가 서로 사랑하면, 그것은 하나님께서 우리 안에 계시고, 그분의 사랑이 우리 안에서 이미 완성되어 있다는 것을 나타냅니다. 13하나님은 당신의 성령을 우리에게 보내 주셨습니다. 그래서 우리는, 우리가 하나님 안에 살고 있고, 하나님이 우리 안에 계신다는 것을 압니다. 14우리는 아버지께서 아들을 구세주로 보내신 것을 보았고 또 증언하고 있습니다. 15누구든지 예수께서 하나님의 아들이시라는 것을 고백하면, 하나님께서는 그 사람 안에 사시고 그 사람은 하나님 안에 삽니다. 16그리하여 우리는 하나님께서 우리를 향하여 품으신 사랑을 알고, 그 사랑에 의지합니다.
하나님은 사랑이십니다. 누구든지 사랑 안에 사는 사람은 하나님 안에 살고, 하나님께서는 그 사람 안에 사십니다. 17이렇게 하여 하나님의 사랑이 우리 가운데서 완성됩니다. 이제 이 세상에서 우리가 그분과 같이 되었으니, 하나님께서 우리를 심판하시는 날에 우리는 자신을 가질 수 있을 것입니다. 18사랑에는 두려움이 없습니다. 오히려 완전한 사랑은 두려움을 몰아냅니다. 우리가 두려움을 갖게 되는 것은 하나님의 벌을 두려워하기 때문입니다. 그러므로 두려움을 느끼는 사람은, 하나님의 사랑이 그 사람 안에서 완성되지 못한 사람입니다. 19우리가 사랑하는 것은 하나님께서 우리를 먼저 사랑하셨기 때문입니다. 20”나는 하나님을 사랑한다.”고 말하면서 그리스도를 믿는 형제나 자매를 미워하면 그 사람은 거짓말쟁이입니다. 눈으로 보는 형제도 사랑하지 않으면서, 눈으로 볼 수 없는 하나님을 사랑할 수는 없기 때문입니다. 21누구든지 하나님을 사랑하는 사람은 자기의 형제도 사랑해야 합니다. 이것이 우리가 하나님에게서 받은 계명입니다. |
