Our Salvation Is Greater Than the Law1So we must be more careful to follow what we were taught. We must be careful so that we will not be pulled away from the true way. 2The teaching that God spoke through angels was shown to be true. And every time his people did something against that teaching, they were punished for what they did. They were punished when they did not obey that teaching. 3So surely we also will be punished if we don’t pay attention to the salvation we have that is so great. It was the Lord Jesus who first told people about it. And those who heard him proved to us that it is true. 4God also proved it by using miraculous signs*, wonders*, and all kinds of miracles*. And he proved it by giving people various gifts through the Holy Spirit* in just the way he wanted.
Christ Became Like People to Save Them 5God did not choose angels to be the rulers over the new world that was coming. That future world is the world we have been talking about. 6It is written some place in the Scriptures*,
“Why are people so important to you? Why do you even think about them?
Why do you care about the son of man*? Is he so important? 7For a short time you made him lower than the angels. You crowned him with glory* and honor. 8You put everything under his control*.” If God put everything under his control*, then there was nothing left that he did not rule. But we don’t yet see him ruling over everything.* 9For a short time Jesus was made lower than the angels, but now we see him wearing a crown of glory and honor because he suffered and died. Because of God’s grace*, Jesus died for everyone. 10God - the one who made all things and for whose glory all things exist - wanted many people to be his children and share his glory. So he did what he needed to do. He made perfect the one who leads those people to salvation. He made Jesus a perfect Savior ththrough his suffering. 11Jesus, the one who makes people holy*, and those who are made holy are from the same family. So he is not ashamed to call them his brothers and sisters. 12He says,
“God, I will tell my brothers and sisters about you. Before all your people I will sing your praises.”* 13He also says,
“I will trust in God.”* And he says,
“I am here, and with me are the children God has given me.”* 14These children are people with physical bodies. So Jesus himself became like them and had the same experiences they have. Jesus did this so that, by dying, he could destroy the one who has the power of death - the devil. 15Jesus became like these people and died so that he could free them. They were like slaves all their lives because of their fear of death. 16Clearly, it is not angels that Jesus helps. He helps the people who are from Abraham*. 17For this reason, Jesus had to be made like us, his brothers and sisters, in every way. He became like people so that he could be their merciful and faithful high priest* in service to God. Then he could bring forgiveness for the people’s sins. 18And now he can help those who are tempted. He is able to help because he himself suffered and was tempted. |

우리의 구원은 율법보다 위대하다 1그러므로 우리는 우리가 들은 것에 더욱 큰 관심을 기울여서 바른 길에서 벗어나지 않아야 합니다. 2천사들을 시켜 전하신 말씀(율법)도 그렇게 큰 구속력*이 있어서, 그 말씀을 어기거나 따르지 않는 사람들은 그때마다 마땅한 벌을 받았습니다. 3그런데 만일 우리가 그처럼 값진 구원을 가볍게 여기면 어떻게 그 벌을 피할 수 있겠습니까? 이 구원을 맨 먼저 알려 주신 분은 주님이셨습니다. 그 다음으로 주님께 그것을 들은 사람들이 그 구원이 사실임을 우리에게 확증해 주었습니다. 4하나님께서도 표적*과 놀라운 일들과 여러 가지 기적을 보이시고, 또 당신의 뜻에 따라 성령*의 선물들을 나누어 주심으로써, 그들의 확증을 뒷받침해 주셨습니다.
그리스도께서 사람들을 구하기 위해 사람과 같이 되셨다 5지금 우리는 앞으로 올 세상에 관하여 말하고 있습니다. 그런데 하나님께서는 천사들에게 그 세상을 다스리도록 하지 않으십니다. 6어떤 사람이 성경* 어디에선가 이렇게 말하였습니다.
“인간이 무엇이기에
당신께서 그들에게 관심을 기울이시며,
사람이 무엇이기에 당신께서 그들을 돌보십니까? 7당신께서는 그들을 잠시 천사들보다 낮게 하셨으나,
영광과 영예의 관을 그들에게 씌워 주셨고 8모든 것을 그들의 발 아래에 복종시키셨습니다.시 8:4-6
이렇게 ‘모든 것’을 그들에게 복종시키셨다는 것은, 하나님께서 그들에게 복종시키지 않으신 것이 하나도 없다는 뜻입니다. 그러나 우리는 모든 것이 그들에게 복종하는 것을 아직은 보지 못하고 있습니다. 9우리가 보는 것은, 예수께서 잠깐 동안 천사들보다 낮게 되셨으나, 지금은 영광과 영예의 왕관을 쓰고 계신 것입니다. 그것은 예수께서 죽음의 고난을 당하셨기 때문입니다. 하나님께서는 우리에게 은혜를 베푸셔서, 그분으로 하여금 모든 사람을 위하여 직접 죽음을 맛보게 하셨습니다. 10하나님은 모든 것을 창조한 분이시고 모든 것은 그분을 위해 있습니다. 그러한 하나님께서 당신의 많은 아들딸들이 당신의 영광을 받아 누리기를 원하셨습니다. 그러니 하나님께서 그들을 구원으로 인도하시는 분(예수)을 완전하게 하시는 것은 당연합니다. 하나님께서는 고통을 통하여 그분(예수)을 완전한 구주가 되게 하셨습니다. 11사람들을 거룩하게 하시는 분(예수)과 거룩하게 되는 그 사람들은 모두 한 가족입니다. 그러므로 예수께서는 그들을 형제자매라고 부르는 것을 부끄러워하지 않으십니다. 12예수께서 이렇게 말씀하십니다.
“내가 주의 이름을 내 형제자매들에게 널리 알리렵니다.
내가 사람들 앞에서 주님을 찬미하는 노래를 부르렵니다.”시 22:22 13그리고 또 이렇게 말씀하십니다.
“나는 하나님을 믿고 의지하렵니다.”사 8:17
또 이렇게도 말씀하십니다.
“하나님, 내가 여기 있습니다.
그리고 하나님께서 내게 주신 자녀들도 함께 있습니다.”사 8:18 14이 자녀들은 살과 피를 지닌 사람들이기 때문에, 그분도 그들과 똑같이 살과 피를 가진 사람이 되셨습니다. 이렇게 해서 예수께서는 죽음을 겪으심으로써, 죽음의 권세를 가진 자, 곧 악마를 쳐서 이기려고 하셨던 것입니다. 15그리고 죽음에 대한 두려움 때문에 평생을 종처럼 살아가고 있는 사람들을 자유롭게 풀어 주려고 하셨습니다. 16분명히 그분이 도와주시는 것은, 천사들이 아니라 아브라함*의 자손들입니다. 17이 때문에 예수께서는 모든 면에서 당신의 형제자매인 우리와 똑같이 되셔야 했습니다. 그것은, 하나님 앞에서 자비롭고 성실한 대제사장이 되어서, 사람들의 죄를 벗겨 주기 위해 자신을 희생 제물로 바치시려는 것이었습니다. 18그분은 몸소 유혹을 받고 고통을 당하셨기 때문에, 지금 유혹을 당하고 있는 사람들을 도와주실 수 있습니다. |
