Don’t Criticize Others1Be willing to accept those who still have doubts about what believers can do. And don’t argue with them about their different ideas. 2Some people believe they can eat any kind of food*, but those who have doubts eat only vegetables. 3Those who know they can eat any kind of food must not feel that they are better than those who eat only vegetables. And those who eat only vegetables must not decide that those who eat all foods are wrong. God has accepted them. 4You cannot judge the servants of someone else. Their own master decides if they are doing right or wrong. And the Lord’s servants will be right, because the Lord is able to make them right. 5Some people might believe that one day is more important than another. And others might believe that every day is the same. Everyone should be sure about their beliefs in their own mind. 6Those who think one day is more important than other days are doing that for the Lord. And those who eat all kinds of food are doing that for the Lord. Yes, they give thanks to God for that food. And those who refuse to eat some foods do that for the Lord. They also give thanks to God. 7We don’t live or die just for ourselves. 8If we live, we are living for the Lord. And if we die, we are dying for the Lord. So living or dying, we belong to the Lord. 9That is why Christ died and rose from death to live again - so that he could be Lord over those who have died and those who are living. 10So why do you judge your brother or sister in Christ? Or why do you think that you are better than they are? We will all stand before God, and he will judge us all. 11Yes, the Scriptures* say,
“‘As surely as I live,’ says the Lord, ‘Everyone will bow before me; everyone will say that I am God.’”* 12So each of us will have to explain to God about the things we do.
Don’t Cause Others to Sin 13So we should stop judging each other. Let’s decide not to do anything that will cause a problem for a brother or sister or hurt their faith. 14I know that there is no food that is wrong to eat. The Lord Jesus is the one who convinced me of that. But if someone believes that something is wrong, then it is wrong for that person. 15If you hurt the faith of your brother or sister because of something you eat, you are not really following the way of love. Don’t destroy anyone’s faith by eating something they think is wrong. Christ died for them. 16Don’t allow what is good for you to become something they say is evil. 17In God’s kingdom*, what we eat and drink is not important. Here is what is important: a right way of life, peace, and joy - all from the Holy Spirit*. 18Whoever serves Christ by living this way is pleasing God, and they will be accepted by others. 19So let’s try as hard as we can to do what will bring peace. Let’s do whatever will help each other grow stronger in faith. 20Don’t let the eating of food destroy the work of God. All food is right to eat, but it is wrong for anyone to eat something that hurts the faith of another person. 21It is better not to eat meat or drink wine or do anything else that hurts the faith of your brother or sister. 22You should keep your beliefs about these things a secret between yourself and God. It is a blessing to be able to do what you think is right without feeling guilty. 23But anyone who eats something without being sure it is right is doing wrong. That is because they did not believe it was right. And if you do anything that you believe is not right, it is sin. |

다른 사람들을 비판하지 말아라 1여러분은 믿음이 약한 사람도 받아들이십시오. 그리고 서로 의견을 달리할 수 있는 문제를 두고 그를 비판하지 마십시오. 2어떤 사람은 자기가 모든 것을 다 먹어도 된다고 믿습니다. 그러나 믿음이 약한 사람은 채소만 먹습니다.* 3무슨 음식이든 다 먹는 사람은 그렇지 않은 사람을 업신여기지 마십시오. 그리고 채소만 먹는 사람도 무슨 음식이든 다 먹는 사람을 비판하지 마십시오. 하나님께서 그 사람을 인정해 주셨기 때문입니다. 4당신이 누구이기에 남의 종을 비판합니까? 그 종이 서거나 넘어지는 것은 그의 주인이 상관할 일입니다. 주의 종은, 주께서 그를 서게 하실 수 있으니 틀림없이 설 것입니다. 5어떤 사람은 어느 날이 다른 날보다 더 거룩하다고 생각하고, 또 어떤 사람은 모든 날이 꼭 같다고 생각합니다. 어느 쪽이든 여러분은 저마다 마음속에 확신을 가지고 있어야 합니다. 6어느 한 날을 특별한 날로 여기는 사람은 주님을 위하여 그렇게 합니다. 무슨 음식이든 다 먹는 사람은* 주님을 위하여 먹으며, 먹을 때에 하나님께 감사드립니다. 그리고 어떤 음식을 먹지 않는 사람도 주님을 위하여 그렇게 하며, 그 사람도 하나님께 감사드립니다. 7우리 가운데 어느 누구도 자신만을 위해서 살지 않으며, 자신만을 위해서 죽지 않습니다. 8우리는 살아도 주를 위해 살고 죽어도 주를 위해 죽습니다. 그러므로 살든지 죽든지 우리는 주께 속한 사람들입니다. 9그리스도께서 죽었다가 다시 살아나신 것은, 죽은 사람들의 주도 되고 산 사람의 주도 되시려는 것이었습니다. 10그런데 어찌하여 여러분은 여러분의 형제나 자매를 정죄합니까? 어찌하여 여러분은 여러분의 형제나 자매를 얕보십니까? 우리는 모두 하나님의 심판대 앞에 설 것입니다. 11성경*에도 이렇게 쓰여 있습니다.
“주(하나님)께서 말씀하신다.
‘모든 무릎이 내 앞에 꿇을 것이며
모든 입이 나를 하나님으로 고백할 것이다.
내가 분명히 살아 있는 것처럼
이런 일들이 틀림없이 일어날 것이다.’“사 45:23 12그러므로 우리는 저마다 자기가 한 일에 대하여 하나님께 답변해야 할 것입니다.
다른 사람을 죄짓게 하지 말아라 13그러니 우리는 서로를 심판하는 일을 그만둡시다. 그 대신 형제나 자매를 죄짓게 하는 일을 하지 않겠다고 결심하십시오. 14주 예수 안에 있는 사람으로서 나는 이것을 확신합니다. 어떤 음식도 그 자체만으로는 부정하지 않습니다. 그러나 누가 어떤 것을 부정하다고 여기면, 그 사람에게는 그것이 부정합니다. 15당신이 먹는 음식 때문에 어떤 형제나 자매가 마음에 상처를 입을 수 있습니다. 그렇게 되면, 여러분이 그 음식을 먹는 것은 이미 사랑으로 하는 행위가 아닙니다. 어떤 사람이 먹어서는 안 된다고 생각하고 있는 음식을 여러분이 먹으면, 그것이 그 사람을 부추기는 꼴이 되어 그도 따라 먹을 수 있습니다. 그러므로 먹는 것으로 그 사람을 영적으로 망하게 하지 마십시오. 그리스도께서는 그 사람을 위해서 죽으셨습니다. 16그러니 무엇이든지 먹을 수 있다는 여러분의 믿음이*, 다른 사람들에게서 비난을 받지 않게 하십시오. 17하나님의 나라는 먹고 마시는 데에 있지 않습니다. 그것은 다른 사람들에 대한 바른 처신과, 그들과 함께 나누는 화평과, 성령* 안에서 누리는 기쁨에 있습니다. 18누구든지 이렇게 그리스도를 섬기는 사람은, 하나님을 기쁘시게 하고 사람들에게서도 인정을 받기 때문입니다. 19그러므로 우리는 평화를 이룩하는 일과 서로의 믿음을 튼튼하게 하는 일에, 있는 힘을 다 기울입시다. 20음식 먹는 문제로 하나님의 일을 망치지 않도록 하십시오. 모든 음식은 다 먹어도 좋습니다. 그러나 다른 사람에게 걸림돌이 되는 음식을 먹는 것은 옳지 않습니다. 21여러분이 고기를 먹든지 술을 마시든지, 그 밖에 무슨 일이든지 여러분의 형제나 자매를 죄짓게 하는 일은 하지 않는 것이 좋습니다. 22이런 문제에 관하여 여러분이 옳다고 믿는 것이 무엇이든지간에, 그것은 여러분과 하나님 사이에 비밀로 해 두고 다른 사람에게 강요하지는 마십시오. 죄의식을 느끼지 않고 자기가 옳다고 인정하는 일을 할 수 있는 사람은 참으로 복 받은 사람입니다. 23그러나 의심을 가진 채 먹는 사람은 자신의 양심과 하나님에게서 정죄를 받습니다. 그것은 믿음으로 먹은 것이 아니기 때문입니다. 믿음에서 나오지 않은 것은 모두 죄입니다. |
