Paul’s Work for the Non-Jewish People1So I, Paul, am a prisoner because I serve Christ Jesus for you who are not Jews. 2Surely you know that God gave me this work through his grace* to help you. 3God let me know his secret plan by showing it to me. I have already written a little about this. 4And if you read what I wrote, you can see that I understand the secret truth about Christ. 5People who lived in other times were not told that secret truth. But now, through the Spirit*, God has made it known to his holy apostles* and prophets*. 6And this is the secret truth: that by hearing the Good News*, those who are not Jews will share with the Jews in the blessings God has for his people. They are part of the same body, and they share in the promise God made through Christ Jesus. 7By God’s special gift of grace, I became a servant to tell that Good News. He gave me that grace by using his power. 8I am the least important of all God’s people. But he gave me this gift - to tell the non-Jewish people the Good News about the riches Christ has. These riches are too great to understand fully. 9And God gave me the work of telling all people about the plan for his secret truth. That secret truth has been hidden in him since the beginning of time. He is the one who created everything. 10His purpose was that all the rulers and powers in the heavenly places will now know the many different ways he shows his wisdom. They will know this because of the church*. 11This agrees with the plan God had since the beginning of time. He did what he planned, and he did it through Christ Jesus our Lord. 12In Christ we come before God with freedom and without fear. We can do this because of our faith in Christ. 13So I ask you not to be discouraged because of what is happening to me. My sufferings are for your benefit - for your honor and glory*.
The Love of Christ 14So I bow in prayer before the Father. 15Every family in heaven and on earth gets its true name from him. 16I ask the Father with his great glory* to give you the power to be strong in your spirits. He will give you that strength through his Spirit*. 17I pray that Christ will live in your hearts because of your faith. I pray that your life will be strong in love and be built on love. 18And I pray that you and all God’s holy people* will have the power to understand the greatness of Christ’s love - how wide, how long, how high, and how deep that love is. 19Christ’s love is greater than anyone can ever know, but I pray that you will be able to know that love. Then you can be filled with everything God has for you. 20With God’s power working in us, he can do much, much more than anything we can ask or think of. 21To him be glory in the church* and in Christ Jesus for all time, forever and ever. Amen*. |

이방인들을 위한 바울의 사명 1그러므로 나 바울은 그리스도 예수의 포로가 되었습니다. 이방 사람인 여러분을 위하여 갇힌 몸이 된 내가 말합니다. 2여러분은, 하나님께서 내게 은혜를 베푸셔서, 나를 여러분을 위한 일꾼으로 삼으셨다는 것을 분명히 들었을 줄 압니다. 3그리고 하나님께서 당신의 은밀한 계획*을 계시로 내게 보여 주셨다는 것도 들었을 것입니다. 그 일에 관해서는 이미 내가 이 편지의 앞머리에서 간단하게 썼습니다. 4그 글을 읽으면, 여러분은 내가 그리스도에 관한 이 은밀한 계획을 꿰뚫어 알고 있다는 것을 알게 될 것입니다. 5예전 사람들에게는 이 계획이 알려지지 않았습니다. 그러나 이제 하나님께서는 성령*을 통하여 그 은밀한 계획을 당신의 거룩한 사도*들과 예언자*들에게 보여 주셨습니다. 6그 은밀한 계획이란, 이방 사람도 유대 사람과 함께 하나님의 상속자가 된다는 것입니다. 이방 사람도 유대 사람도 기쁜 소식*을 믿어서, 둘이 같은 한 몸의 부분이 되며, 하나님께서 그리스도 예수 안에서 약속하신 복을 같이 나누어 받게 됩니다. 7나는, 하나님의 특별하신 은혜와 크신 능력 덕분에, 이 기쁜 소식*을 전하는 책임을 맡은 종이 되었습니다. 8나는 모든 하나님의 백성 가운데서 가장 보잘것없는 사람입니다. 아니 그보다도 못한 사람입니다. 그런 내가 하나님의 특별한 선물을 받았습니다. 곧, 이방 사람에게, 그리스도 안에서 그들이 누릴 수 있는 이루 다 헤아릴 수 없는 부에 대한 기쁜 소식을 전하는 일입니다. 9또한 모든 것을 창조하신 하나님께서 과거에는 감추고 계시던 이 은밀한 계획을 어떻게 실현해 나가시는지를 모든 사람에게 밝히는 일입니다. 10하나님의 목적은 당신의 온갖 지혜를 하늘의 영역에 있는 모든 통치자와 세력을 가진 자들에게 보여 주시는 것이었습니다. 그들은 이제 유대 사람과 이방 사람이 하나님의 교회*안에서 하나로 연결될 때에 이것을 볼 것입니다. 11이것이 하나님께서 영원 전부터 세워 놓으신 계획입니다. 그리고 이제 그것이 우리 주 그리스도 예수를 통하여 이루어졌습니다. 12이제 우리는, 그리스도와 그리스도를 믿는 우리의 믿음 때문에 담대하게 확신을 가지고 하나님 앞에 나아갈 수 있습니다. 13그러므로 내가 겪는 고통을 보고, 여러분이 용기를 잃는 일이 없기를 당부합니다. 내가 고통을 당하는 것은 여러분을 위한 것입니다. 그러니 여러분은 영광스럽게 생각하고 용기를 얻어야 할 것입니다.
그리스도의 사랑 14그러므로 나는 아버지 앞에 무릎을 꿇고 기도합니다. 15그분은 하늘과 땅에 있는 모든 가족의 창조자이시며 주님이십니다.* 16아버지께서 넉넉하신 당신의 영광에 따라, 성령을 통하여 여러분의 속사람을 굳세게 해 주시기를 빕니다. 17그리하여 여러분이 그리스도를 믿고 의지함으로써, 그리스도께서 여러분 안에 들어가 사시게 되기를 빕니다. 여러분이 사랑 안에 뿌리를 내리고 터를 잡아서, 18하나님의 모든 거룩한 백성과 함께, 그리스도의 사랑이 얼마나 넓고 길고 높고 깊은지를 깨달을 능력을 가지게 되기를 빕니다. 19그리고 인간의 지식을 넘어서는 그리스도의 사랑을 알 수 있게 되기를 빕니다. 그리하여 하나님의 모든 충만함으로 여러분이 가득 채워지기를 빕니다. 20하나님께서는 우리 안에서 일하시는 그 능력으로, 우리가 요청하거나 상상하는 것보다 훨씬 더 많이 주실 수 있습니다. 21하나님께서 교회와 그리스도 예수를 통하여 모든 세대에 걸쳐 영원무궁토록 영광받으시기를 빕니다. 아멘. |
