Be Ready for the Lord’s Coming1Now, brothers and sisters, we don’t need to write to you about times and dates. 2You know very well that the day when the Lord comes again will be a surprise, like a thief who comes at night. 3People will say, “We have peace and we are safe.” At that time destruction will come to them quickly, like the pains of a woman giving birth. And those people will not escape. 4But you, brothers and sisters, are not living in darkness*. And so that day will not surprise you like a thief. 5You are all people who belong to the light*. You belong to the day*. We don’t belong to the night* or to darkness. 6So we should not be like other people. We should not be sleeping. We should be awake and have self-control. 7People who sleep, sleep at night. People who drink too much, drink at night. 8But we belong to the day, so we should control ourselves. We should wear faith and love to protect us. And the hope of salvation should be our helmet. 9God did not choose us to suffer his anger. God chose us to have salvation through our Lord Jesus Christ. 10Jesus died for us so that we can live together with him. It is not important if we are alive or dead when Jesus comes. 11So encourage each other and help each other grow stronger in faith, just as you are already doing.
Final Instructions and Greetings 12Now brothers and sisters, we ask you to recognize the value of those who work hard among you - those who, as followers of the Lord, care for you and tell you how to live. 13Show them the highest respect and love because of the work they do.
Live in peace with each other. 14We ask you, brothers and sisters, to warn those who will not work. Encourage those who are afraid. Help those who are weak. Be patient with everyone. 15Be sure that no one pays back wrong for wrong. But always try to do what is good for each other and for all people. 16Always be full of joy. 17Never stop praying. 18Whatever happens, always be thankful. This is how God wants you to live in Christ Jesus. 19Don’t stop the work of the Holy Spirit*. 20Don’t treat prophecy* like something that is not important. 21But test everything. Keep what is good, 22and stay away from everything that is evil. 23We pray that God himself, the God of peace, will make you pure - belonging only to him. We pray that your whole self - spirit, soul, and body - will be kept safe and be blameless when our Lord Jesus Christ comes. 24The one who chose you will do that for you. You can trust him. 25Brothers and sisters, please pray for us. 26Give all the brothers and sisters the special greeting of God’s people*. 27I tell you by the authority of the Lord to read this letter to all the believers* there. 28The grace* of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you. |

주께서 오실 때를 위해 준비해라 1형제자매 여러분, 그때와 날짜에 대해서는 여러분에게 쓸 필요가 없습니다. 2주님의 날은 마치 밤중에 오는 도둑처럼 온다는 것을 여러분이 잘 알기 때문입니다. 3사람들이 “평화롭고 안전하다.”고 말할 때에, 갑자기 멸망이 그들을 덮칠 것입니다. 그것은 마치 아기를 밴 여자가 아기를 낳을 때 찾아오는 고통과 같아서 피할 길이 없을 것입니다. 4그러나 형제자매 여러분, 여러분은 어둠 속에 있지 않으니 이날이 도둑처럼 여러분을 덮치지는 않을 것입니다. 5여러분은 모두 빛의 자녀들이고 낮의 자녀들이기 때문입니다. 우리는 밤이나 어둠에 속한 사람들이 아닙니다. 6그러니 우리는 다른 사람들처럼 잠들지 말고, 깨어 있으면서 정신을 똑바로 차립시다. 7잠자는 사람들도 밤에 잠을 자고, 술 취하는 사람들도 밤에 취합니다. 8그러나 우리는 낮에 속한 사람들이니 정신을 똑바로 차립시다. 믿음과 사랑을 갑옷처럼 입고, 구원의 소망을 투구처럼 씁시다. 9하나님께서는 우리에게 당신의 진노가 내리도록 정해 놓지 않으시고, 우리 주 예수 그리스도를 통하여 구원을 얻도록 정해 놓으셨습니다. 10그리스도께서는 우리를 당신과 함께 살게 하시려고 우리를 위해 죽으셨습니다. 그분께서 오실 때에 우리가 살아 있느냐 죽어 있느냐는 문제가 되지 않습니다. 11그러니 여러분은 지금 실제로 하고 있는 그대로 서로 용기를 주고 믿음을 북돋아 주십시오.
마지막 훈계와 인사 12형제자매 여러분, 여러분에게 부탁합니다. 여러분 가운데서 힘써 일하는 사람들과, 주님 안에서 여러분을 지도하고 가르치는 사람들을 존경하십시오. 13그들이 하는 일을 생각해서, 사랑하는 마음으로 그들을 극진히 받드십시오.
서로 평화롭게 사십시오. 14형제자매 여러분, 여러분에게 당부합니다. 게으른 사람들에게 경고하고, 마음이 약한 사람에게 용기를 주고, 힘없는 사람을 도와주며, 모든 사람을 참을성 있게 대하십시오. 15어느 누구도 결코 악을 악으로 갚지 않도록 두루 살피십시오. 오히려 언제나 서로에게, 그리고 모든 사람에게, 선한 일을 하려고 애쓰십시오. 16언제나 기뻐하십시오. 17끊임없이 기도하십시오. 18어떤 처지에서든지 감사하십시오. 이것이 그리스도 예수 안에서 여러분에게 바라시는 하나님의 뜻입니다. 19성령*의 불을 끄지 마십시오. 20예언자*들의 말을 멸시하지 마십시오. 21그것이 하나님께로부터 오는 것인지 아닌지 확인하기 위해 모든 것을 시험해 보십시오. 그리고 좋은 것을 굳게 지키십시오. 22모든 악을 멀리하십시오. 23평화의 하나님께서 몸소 여러분을 완전히 거룩하게 해 주시기를 빕니다. 우리 주 예수 그리스도께서 오실 때까지, 여러분의 온 정신과 영혼과 몸이 흠 없이 지켜지기를 빕니다. 24여러분을 부르시는 하나님은 신실하신 분이므로 그렇게 해 주실 것입니다. 25형제자매 여러분, 우리를 위해서도 기도해 주십시오. 26거룩한 입맞춤으로 모든 형제자매에게 문안해 주십시오. 27내가 주님의 이름으로 부탁합니다. 이 편지를 모든 형제자매에게 읽어 주십시오. 28우리 주 예수 그리스도의 은혜가 여러분에게 있기를 빕니다. |
