1And we still have the promise that God gave those people. That promise is that we can enter his place of rest. So we should be very careful that none of you fails to get that promise. 2Yes, the good news about it was told to us just as it was to them. But the message they heard did not help them. They heard it but did not accept it with faith. 3Only we who believe it are able to enter God’s place of rest. As God said,
“I was angry and made a promise: ‘They will never enter my place of rest.’”* But God’s work was finished from the time he made the world. 4Yes, somewhere in the Scriptures* he talked about the seventh day of the week. He said, “So on the seventh day God rested from all his work.”* 5But in the Scripture above God said, “They will never enter my place of rest.” 6So the opportunity is still there for some to enter and enjoy God’s rest. But those who first heard the good news about it did not enter, because they did not obey. 7So God planned another special day. It is called “today.” He spoke about that day through David* a long time later using the words we quoted before:
“If you hear God’s voice today, don’t be stubborn.”* 8We know that Joshua* did not lead the people into the place of rest that God promised. We know this because God spoke later about another day for rest. 9This shows that the seventh-day rest* for God’s people is still to come. 10God rested after he finished his work. So everyone who enters God’s place of rest will also have rest from their own work just as God did. 11So let us try as hard as we can to enter God’s place of rest. We must try hard so that none of us will be lost by following the example of those who refused to obey God. 12God’s word* is alive and working. It is sharper than the sharpest sword and cuts all the way into us. It cuts deep to the place where the soul and the spirit are joined. God’s word* cuts to the center of our joints and our bones. It judges the thoughts and feelings in our hearts. 13Nothing in all the world can be hidden from God. He can clearly see all things. Everything is open before him. And to him we must explain the way we have lived.
Jesus Christ Is Our High Priest 14We have a great high priest* who has gone to live with God in heaven. He is Jesus the Son of God. So let us continue to express our faith in him. 15Jesus, our high priest, is able to understand our weaknesses. When Jesus lived on earth, he was tempted in every way. He was tempted in the same ways we are tempted, but he never sinned. 16With Jesus as our high priest, we can feel free to come before God’s throne where there is grace*. There we receive mercy and kindness to help us when we need it. |

1그러므로 하나님께서 안식에 들어가게 해 주시겠다는 약속이 아직도 남아 있는 동안에, 여러분 가운데 아무도 그 안식에 들어가지 못하는 사람이 없도록 두려운 마음으로 조심하십시오. 2이스라엘 백성에게도, 우리에게도, 기쁜 소식이 전해졌습니다. 그러나 그들이 전해들은 말씀은 그들에게 아무 도움이 되지 못하였습니다. 그들은 기쁜 소식을 듣고, 그것을 믿음으로 받아들이지 않았기 때문입니다. 3이제 그것을 믿은 우리만이 하나님의 안식에 들어가 쉼을 얻을 것입니다. 하나님께서는 믿지 않은 사람들을 두고 이렇게 말씀하셨습니다.
“그래서 나는 화가 나서 이렇게 맹세하였다.
‘그들은 결코 나의 안식에 들어와 쉼을 얻지 못하리라.’“시 95:11
사실 하나님께서 세상을 창조하셨을 때에 모든 일을 다 마치시고, 그 뒤로 쉬셨습니다. 4성경* 어디에선가 일곱째 날에 대해 이렇게 말하고 있습니다. “그리고 일곱째 날에 하나님께서 모든 일을 마치고 쉬셨다.”* 5그러나 위에서 말한 다른 구절에서는 “그들은 결코 나의 안식에 들어오지 못하리라.”고 하셨습니다. 6전에 자기들에게 전해진 하나님의 기쁜 소식*을 들었으나 순종하지 않은 사람들은 하나님의 안식에 들어가지 못했습니다. 그러나 어떤 이들에게는 들어갈 기회가 아직도 남아 있습니다. 7그래서 하나님께서는 당신의 안식에 들어갈 또 다른 때를 정하셨는데, 그때가 바로 오늘입니다. 하나님께서는 이 사실을 오랜 세월이 흐른 뒤에 다윗을 통하여 선포하셨습니다. 바로 앞에서 말한 성경 대목에서 이렇게 말씀하셨습니다.
“오늘 너희가 그분의 음성을 듣거든,
무디고 고집스런 마음을 품지 말아라.”시 95:7-8 8만일 여호수아*가 이스라엘 백성에게 안식을 주었더라면, 하나님께서 나중에 또 다른 안식의 날(‘오늘’)에 대해 말씀하지 않으셨을 것입니다. 9그렇다면 하나님의 백성에게는 일곱째 날의 안식*이 이미 이루어진 것이 아니고 앞으로 다가올 일로 남아 있습니다. 10하나님의 안식에 들어가는 사람은, 하나님께서 당신의 일을 마치고 쉬신 것처럼, 그도 자기의 일을 마치고 쉬는 것입니다. 11그러므로 우리는 그 안식에 들어가도록 있는 힘을 다해 노력합시다. 아무도 옛날 사람들처럼 순종하지 않다가 떨어져 나가는 일이 없도록 합시다. 12하나님의 말씀*은 살아 움직입니다. 그것은 양날 칼보다 더 날카로워서, 정신과 영혼을 갈라내고, 뼈마디와 뼛골을 갈라내기까지 꿰뚫고 들어가, 마음에 품은 생각과 속셈을 자세히 살핍니다. 13이 세상의 어느 것도 그분의 눈길을 피할 수 없습니다. 하나님 앞에서는 모든 것이 드러나며, 그분의 눈앞에서는 모든 것이 벌거숭이가 됩니다. 그분은 우리의 재판장이시니, 우리는 그분께 우리의 살아온 모습 그대로를 말씀드리지 않을 수 없습니다.
예수는 우리가 하나님 앞으로 나아가도록 도우신다 14우리에게는 하늘로 들어가신 위대한 대제사장이 계십니다. 곧 하나님의 아들 예수이십니다. 그러니 우리가 고백하는 신앙을 굳게 지킵시다. 15우리의 대제사장이신 예수는 우리의 연약함을 동정할 줄 모르는 그런 분이 아니십니다. 그분은 이 세상에 사실 때에, 우리와 똑같이 온갖 시험을 다 당하셨습니다. 그러나 결코 죄는 짓지 않으셨습니다. 16이제 예수를 우리의 대제사장으로 모셨으니, 우리는 자신 있게 은혜의 보좌 앞으로 나아갈 수 있습니다. 그러면 필요한 때에 우리를 도와줄 하나님의 자비와 은혜를 받게 될 것입니다. |
