Jesus’ Letter to the Church in Ephesus1“Write this to the angel of the church* in Ephesus:
“Here is a message from the one who holds the seven stars in his right hand and walks among the seven golden lampstands. 2“I know what you do, how hard you work and never give up. I know that you don’t accept evil people. You have tested those who say they are apostles* but are not. You found that they are liars. 3You never stop trying. You have endured troubles for my name and have not given up. 4“But I have this against you: You have left the love you had in the beginning. 5So remember where you were before you fell. Change your hearts and do what you did at first. If you don’t change, I will come to you and remove your lampstand from its place. 6But there is something you do that is right - you hate the things that the Nicolaitans* do. I also hate what they do. 7“Everyone who hears this should listen to what the Spirit* says to the churches. To those who win the victory I will give the right to eat the fruit from the tree of life*, which is in God’s paradise*.
Jesus’ Letter to the Church in Smyrna 8“Write this to the angel of the church* in Smyrna:
“Here is a message from the one who is the First and the Last, the one who died and came to life again. 9“I know your troubles, and I know that you are poor, but really you are rich! I know the insults you have suffered from people who say they are Jews. But they are not true Jews. They are a group* that belongs to Satan*. 10Don’t be afraid of what will happen to you. I tell you, the devil will put some of you in prison. He will do this to test you. You will suffer for ten days, but be faithful, even if you have to die. If you continue to be faithful, I will give you the reward* of life. 11“Everyone who hears this should listen to what the Spirit* says to the churches. Those who win the victory will not be hurt by the second death.
Jesus’ Letter to the Church in Pergamum 12“Write this to the angel of the church* in Pergamum:
“Here is a message from the one who has the sharp two-edged sword. 13“I know where you live. You live where Satan* has his throne, but you are true to me. You did not refuse to tell about your faith in me even during the time of Antipas. Antipas was my faithful witness* who was killed in your city, the city where Satan lives. 14“But I have a few things against you. You have people there who follow the teaching of Balaam*. Balaam taught Balak how to make the people of Israel* sin. They sinned by eating food offered to idols* and by committing sexual sins. 15It is the same in your group. You have people who follow the teaching of the Nicolaitans. 16So change your hearts! If you don’t change, I will come to you quickly and fight against these people with the sword that comes out of my mouth. 17“Everyone who hears this should listen to what the Spirit* says to the churches!
“I will give the hidden manna* to everyone who wins the victory. I will also give each one a white stone that has a new name written on it. And no one will know this name except the one who gets the stone.
Jesus’ Letter to the Church in Thyatira 18“Write this to the angel of the church* in Thyatira:
“Here is a message from the Son of God, the one who has eyes that blaze like fire and feet like shining brass. 19“I know what you do. I know about your love, your faith, your service, and your patience. I know that you are doing more now than you did at first. 20But I have this against you: You let that woman Jezebel do what she wants. She says that she is a prophet*, but she is leading my people away with her teaching. Jezebel leads my people to commit sexual sins and to eat food that is offered to idols*. 21I have given her time to change her heart and turn away from her sin, but she does not want to change. 22“So I will throw her on a bed of suffering. And all those who commit adultery* with her will suffer greatly. I will do this now if they don’t turn away from the things she does. 23I will also kill her followers. Then all the churches will see that I am the one who knows what people feel and think. And I will repay each of you for what you have done. 24“But others of you in Thyatira have not followed her teaching. You have not learned the things they call ‘Satan’s* deep secrets.’ This is what I say to you: I will not put any other burden on you. 25Only hold on to the truth you have until I come. 26“I will give power over the nations to all those who win the victory and continue until the end to do what I want.* 27They will rule the nations with an iron rod. They will break them to pieces like clay pots. 28They will have the same power I received from my Father, and I will give them the morning star. 29Everyone who hears this should listen to what the Spirit* says to the churches. |

에베소 교회에 보내는 예수의 편지 1”에베소 교회의 천사에게 이렇게 써서 보내어라. 2오른손에 일곱 별을 쥐고, 일곱 금 등잔대 사이를 거니는 분이 하시는 말씀이다. 나는 네가 한 일과 네 수고와 인내를 안다. 네가 악한 사람들을 용납할 수 없는 것을 내가 안다. 또 사도가 아니면서 사도라고 주장하는 사람들을 시험하여 그들이 거짓말쟁이라는 것을 밝혀낸 것도 알고 있다. 3네가 잘 참고, 내 이름을 위하여 고난을 겪었다는 것과, 결코 그 일에 지치지 않았다는 것도 알고 있다. 4그러나 너를 나무랄 것이 있으니, 네가 처음 사랑을 버린 것이다. 5너의 처음 사랑이 얼마나 뜨거웠는지 생각해 보아라. 그리고 회개하고 처음에 하던 일들을 다시 하여라. 네가 회개하고 고치지 않으면, 내가 네게로 가서 네 등잔대를 그 있던 자리에서 옮겨 버리겠다. 6그러나 네가 잘하고 있는 일이 있으니, 네가 니골라당*이 하는 짓을 미워하는 것이다. 나도 그것을 미워한다. 7귀 있는 사람은 성령*께서 교회들에게 하시는 말씀을 들어라. 나는 이기는 사람에게 하나님의 동산에 있는 생명나무의 열매를 먹을 권리를 주겠다.’”
서머나 교회에 보내는 예수의 편지 8”서머나 교회의 천사에게 이렇게 써서 보내어라.
‘처음이며 마지막이요, 죽으셨다가 살아나신 분께서 하시는 말씀이다. 9나는 네가 겪은 어려움과 가난을 안다. 그러나 사실 너는 부자다. 또 자칭 유대 사람이라는 자들이 너를 헐뜯어 말하는 것도 내가 알고 있다. 그러나 그들은 유대 사람이 아니라, 사탄*의 무리이다. 10너는 네가 겪게 될 일에 대하여 두려워하지 말아라. 이제 악마가 너희를 시험하려고 너희 가운데 몇 사람을 감옥에 가두겠고, 너희는 열흘 동안 박해를 당할 것이다. 그러나 너는 죽임을 당하더라도 충성하여라. 그러면 내가 생명의 면류관*을 너에게 주겠다. 11귀 있는 사람은 성령*께서 교회들에게 하시는 말씀을 들어라. 이기는 사람은 두 번째 죽음을 당하지 않을 것이다.’”
버가모 교회에 보내는 예수의 편지 12”버가모 교회의 천사에게 이렇게 써서 보내어라.
‘ 13날카로운 양날이 달린 칼을 가지신 분께서 하시는 말씀이다. 나는 네가 어디에 사는지를 안다. 너는 사탄의 보좌가 있는 곳*에 살고 있다. 그러나 너는 내 이름을 굳게 붙잡고 있다. 또 나의 충실한 증인*인 안디바가 너의 도시, 곧 사탄이 살고 있는 곳에서 죽임을 당했을 때에도 나에 대한 믿음을 부인하지 않았다. 14그러나 네게 나무랄 것이 두어 가지 있다. 너희 가운데에는 발람의 가르침을 따르는 자들이 있다. 발람은 발락*에게, 이스라엘* 사람들을 꾀어서 우상에게 바친 음식을 먹게 하고 음란한 짓을 하게 하여 죄를 짓게 하라고 가르친 자이다. 15이와 마찬가지로 너희 가운데에도 니골라당*의 가르침을 따르는 사람들이 있다. 16그러므로 회개하여라. 회개하지 않으면, 내가 곧 네게로 가서 내 입에서 나오는 칼로 그 사람들과 맞서 싸우겠다. 17귀 있는 사람은 성령*께서 교회들에게 하시는 말씀을 들어라.
이기는 모든 사람에게는, 내가 감추어 둔 만나*를 주겠다. 그리고 그 사람에게 흰 돌도 주겠다. 이 돌에는, 받는 사람 말고는 아무도 모르는 새 이름이 쓰여 있다.’”
두아디라 교회에 보내는 예수의 편지 18”두아디라 교회의 천사에게 이렇게 써서 보내어라.
‘ 19그 눈이 타오르는 불과 같고, 그 발이 빛나는 놋쇠와 같은 하나님의 아드님께서 하시는 말씀이다. 나는 네가 하는 일을 알고 있다. 나는 네 사랑과 믿음과 봉사와 인내를 안다. 그리고 네가 처음보다 지금 더 많은 일을 하고 있다는 것을 안다. 20그러나 너를 나무랄 것이 있으니, 네가 스스로 예언자로 자처하는* 이세벨이라는 여자를 용납하고 있는 것이다. 그 여자는 잘못된 가르침으로 내 종들을 곁길로 인도하여, 그들로 하여금 성적으로 부도덕한 죄를 짓게 하고 우상에게 바친 음식을 먹게 한다. 21나는 그 여자에게 자신의 음행에서 돌이킬 시간을 주었다. 그러나 그 여자는 그러고 싶어하지 않는다. 22나는 그 여자를 고난의 침상에 던질 것이다. 그 여자와 더불어 성적으로 부도덕한 짓을 저지르는 자들도, 그것에서 돌이키지 않으면 엄청난 고통을 받게 하겠다. 23나는 또 그 여자를 따르는 사람들을 죽일 것이다. 그러면 모든 교회가 내가 사람의 마음과 가슴을 살피는 이라는 것을 알게 될 것이다. 나는 너희 각 사람에게 그가 한 일대로 갚아 주겠다. 24그러나 두아디라 사람들 가운데 나머지 너희들, 곧 그 여자의 가르침을 따르지 않고 사탄*의 은밀한 비밀이라고 하는 것을 배우지 않은 너희에게 말한다. 나는 너희에게 다른 짐을 더 지우지 않겠다. 25다만 내가 올 때까지, 너희가 가지고 있는 것(가르침)을 굳게 붙잡고 있어라. 26어려움을 이겨내고 끝까지 내가 원하는 일을 하는 모든 사람에게는, 내가 여러 민족을 다스릴 권세를 주겠다. 27그는 쇠 지팡이로 그들을 다스릴 것이요, 질그릇 부수듯이 그들을 산산조각 낼 것이다. 28그는 내가 내 아버지께로부터 받은 능력과 꼭 같은 능력을 가질 것이다. 나는 그에게 샛별을 주겠다. 29귀 있는 사람은 성령*께서 교회들에게 하시는 말씀을 들어라.’” |
