Jewish Leaders Doubt Jesus’ Authority (Mt. 21:23-27; Mk. 11:27-33)1One day Jesus was in the Temple* area teaching the people. He was telling them the Good News*. The leading priests, teachers of the law, and older Jewish leaders came to talk to Jesus. 2They said, “Tell us what authority you have to do these things. Who gave you this authority?” 3Jesus answered, “I will ask you a question too. Tell me: 4When John* baptized* people, did his authority come from God or was it only from other people?” 5The priests, the teachers of the law, and the Jewish leaders all talked about this. They said to each other, “If we answer, ‘John’s baptism was from God,’ then he will say, ‘Then why did you not believe John?’ 6But if we say that John’s baptism was from someone else, the people will stone us to death. They all believe that John was a prophet*.” 7So they answered, “We don’t know the answer.” 8So Jesus said to them, “Then I will not tell you who gave me the authority to do these things.”
God Sends His Son (Mt 21:33-46; Mk. 12:1-12) 9Then Jesus told the people this story: “A man planted a vineyard*. He leased the land to some farmers. Then he went away for a long time. 10Later, it was time for the grapes to be picked. So the man sent a servant to those farmers so that they would give him his share of the grapes. But they beat the servant and sent him away with nothing. 11So the man sent another servant. They beat this servant too and showed no respect for him. They sent the servant away with nothing. 12So the man sent a third servant to the farmers. They hurt this servant badly and threw him out. 13“The owner of the vineyard said, ‘What will I do now? I will send my son. I love my son very much. Maybe the farmers will respect my son.’ 14When the farmers saw the son, they said to each other, ‘This is the owner’s son. This vineyard will be his. If we kill him, it will be ours.’ 15So the farmers threw the son out of the vineyard and killed him.
“What will the owner of the vineyard do? 16He will come and kill those farmers. Then he will lease the land to some other farmers.”
When the people heard this story, they said, “This should never happen!” 17But Jesus looked into their eyes and said, “Then what does this verse mean:
‘The stone that the builders refused to accept became the cornerstone*’?* 18Everyone who falls on that stone will be broken. If that stone falls on you, it will crush you!” 19When the teachers of the law and the leading priests heard this story, they knew it was about them. So they wanted to arrest Jesus right then, but they were afraid of what the people would do.
The Jewish Leaders Try to Trick Jesus (Mt. 22:15-22; Mk. 12:13-17) 20So the Jewish leaders waited for the right time to get Jesus. They sent some men to him, who pretended to be sincere. They wanted to find something wrong with what Jesus said. (If they found something wrong, then they could hand him over to the governor, who had the authority to arrest him.) 21So the men said to Jesus, “Teacher, we know that what you say and teach is true. It doesn’t matter who is listening - you teach the same to all people. You always teach the truth about God’s way. 22Tell us, is it right for us to pay taxes to Caesar* or not?” 23But Jesus knew that these men were trying to trick him. He said to them, 24“Show me a silver coin*. Whose name and picture are on it?”
They said, “Caesar’s.” 25He said to them, “Then give to Caesar what belongs to Caesar, and give to God what belongs to God.” 26The men were amazed at his wise answer. They could say nothing. They were not able to trick Jesus there in front of the people. He said nothing they could use against him.
Some Sadducees Try to Trick Jesus (Mt. 22:23-33; Mk. 12:18-27) 27Some Sadducees* came to Jesus. (Sadducees believe that people will not rise from death.) They asked him, 28“Teacher, Moses* wrote that if a married man dies and had no children, his brother must marry his widow. Then they will have children for the dead brother*. 29One time there were seven brothers. The first brother married a woman but died. He had no children. 30Then the second brother married the woman, and he died. 31And the third brother married the woman, and he died. The same thing happened with all the other brothers. They all died and had no children. 32The woman was the last to die. 33But all seven brothers married her. So when people rise from death, whose wife will this woman be?” 34Jesus said to the Sadducees, “On earth, people marry each other. 35Some people will be worthy to be raised from death and live again after this life. In that life they will not marry. 36In that life people are like angels and cannot die. They are children of God, because they have been raised from death. 37Moses clearly showed that people are raised from death. When Moses wrote about the burning bush*, he said that the Lord is ‘the God of Abraham*, the God of Isaac*, and the God of Jacob*.’* 38So they were not still dead, because he is the God only of living people. Yes, to God they are all still living.” 39Some of the teachers of the law said, “Teacher, your answer was very good.” 40No one was brave enough to ask him another question.
Is the Messiah David’s Son or David’s Lord? (Mt. 22:41-46; Mk. 12:35-37) 41Then Jesus said, “Why do people say that the Messiah* is the Son of David*? 42In the book of Psalms, David* himself says,
‘The Lord God said to my Lord:
Sit by me at my right side, 43and I will put your enemies under your power*.’* 44David calls the Messiah ‘Lord.’ So how can the Messiah also be David’s son?”
Warning Against the Teachers of the Law (Mt. 23:1-36; Mk. 12:38-40; Lk. 11:37-54) 45While all the people were listening to Jesus, he said to his followers, 46“Be careful of the teachers of the law. They like to walk around wearing clothes that look important. And they love for people to show respect to them in the marketplaces. They love to have the most important seats in the synagogues* and the places of honor at banquets. 47But they cheat widows and take their homes. Then they try to make themselves look good by saying long prayers. God will punish them very much.” |

유대 지도자들이 예수께 묻다 (마 21:23-27; 막 11:27-33) 1어느 날 예수께서 성전*뜰에서 사람들을 가르치시며 하나님 나라의 기쁜 소식*을 전하고 계실 때에, 높은 제사장들과 율법 선생들과 장로*들이 예수께 와서 말하였다. 2”말해 보시오! 당신이 무슨 권한으로 이런 일들을 하는 거요? 누가 당신에게 이런 권한을 주었소?” 3예수께서 대답하셨다. “나도 너희에게 묻겠다. 4요한이 사람들에게 세례*를 베푼 권한은 하늘에 계신 하나님께로부터 온 것이냐, 사람에게서 온 것이냐?” 5높은 제사장들과 율법 선생들과 장로들은 이 물음을 두고 서로 의논하였다. “만일 우리가 ‘요한의 세례는 하늘에 계신 하나님께로부터 온 것이다.’라고 말하면, 예수는 ‘그렇다면 어찌하여 너희가 요한을 믿지 않았느냐?’라고 물을 것이다. 6그러나 우리가 ‘요한의 세례는 사람에게서 온 것이다.’라고 말하면 모든 사람이 우리를 돌로 칠 것이다. 그들은 요한을 예언자*로 믿고 있다.” 7그래서 그들은 “우리는 모릅니다.”라고 대답하였다. 8그러자 예수께서 그 사람들에게 말씀하셨다. “그렇다면 나도 어떤 권한으로 이런 일을 하는지 말하지 않겠다.”
하나님께서 아드님을 보내시다 (마 21:33-46; 막 12:1-12) 9그러고 나서 예수께서는 사람들에게 이런 비유를 들려주셨다. “어떤 사람이 자기 밭에 포도나무를 심었다. 그 사람은 그 밭을 농부들에게 세 주고, 다른 나라에 가서 오랫동안 있었다. 10포도를 거둬들일 때가 되자, 그 사람은 자기 몫의 포도를 받아오라고 종 하나를 농부들에게 보냈다. 그런데 농부들은 그 종을 때려서 빈손으로 쫓아 버렸다. 11주인은 다시 다른 종을 보냈다. 농부들은 그 종도 때리고 모욕한 다음, 또다시 빈손으로 쫓아 버렸다. 12그래서 주인은 세 번째 종을 보냈다. 농부들은 그 종을 심하게 때리고 상처를 입혀 내쫓았다. 13그러자 포도밭 주인은 이렇게 말하였다. ‘어떻게 할까? 내 사랑하는 아들을 보내야겠다. 설마 농부들이 내 아들은 존중하겠지!’ 14농부들은 주인의 아들을 보자 자기들끼리 의논하였다. ‘이 사람은 포도밭을 물려받을 주인의 아들이다. 우리가 그를 죽이면 이 포도밭은 우리 차지가 될 것이다.’ 15그래서 농부들은 그 아들을 포도원 밖으로 내쫓은 다음 죽여 버렸다.
그 포도밭 주인이 어떻게 할 것 같으냐? 16그는 농부들을 찾아와 그들을 죽이고, 그 밭을 다른 농부들에게 줄 것이다.”
사람들이 이 이야기를 듣고 말하였다. “결코 그런 일이 없기를 바랍니다.” 17예수께서 그들을 똑바로 바라보고 말씀하셨다. “그렇다면 이런 성경 구절은 무슨 뜻이란 말이냐?
‘집 짓는 사람들이 버린 돌이 모퉁이의 머릿돌*이 되었다.’ 시 118:22 18그 돌 위에 떨어지는 사람은 모두 산산조각이 날 것이다. 그 돌이 어느 사람 위에 떨어지면 그는 으스러지고 말 것이다!” 19율법 선생들과 높은 제사장들은 예수께서 하신 이야기가 자기들을 겨냥하여 하신 것임을 알았다. 그래서 곧바로 예수를 잡아 가두고 싶었으나, 사람들이 두려워서 손을 쓰지 못하였다.
유대 지도자들이 예수를 함정에 빠뜨리려 하다 (마 22:15-22; 막 12:13-17) 20율법 선생들과 높은 제사장들은 예수를 지켜보다가 정탐꾼 몇 사람을 보냈다. 정탐꾼들은 정직한 사람인 체하였다. 예수의 말씀을 트집 잡아 로마 총독에게 넘기려는 것이었다. 로마 총독에게는 그들을 다스리고 처벌할 권한이 있었기 때문이다. 21정탐꾼들이 예수께 물었다. “선생님, 우리는 선생님의 말씀과 가르침이 옳다는 것을 알고 있습니다. 선생님께서는 듣는 사람이 누구든 가리지 않으시고, 언제나 하나님의 길을 참되게 가르치십니다. 22그러니 저희에게 말씀해 주십시오. 시저*에게 세금을 바치는 것이 옳습니까, 옳지 않습니까?” 23예수께서는 그 사람들의 음흉한 속셈을 아시고 이렇게 말씀하셨다. 24”데나리온*하나를 보여 다오. 거기에 누구의 얼굴과 글자가 새겨져 있느냐?”
그 사람들이 대답하였다. “시저의 것입니다.” 25예수께서 그 사람들에게 말씀하셨다. “그렇다면 시저의 것은 시저에게 주고, 하나님의 것은 하나님께 드려라.” 26그들은 백성들 앞에서 예수의 말씀을 트집 잡을 수 없었다. 그리고 예수의 대답에 놀라 입을 다물고 말았다.
몇몇 사두개파 사람들이 예수를 함정에 빠뜨리려 하다 (마 22:23-33; 막 12:18-27) 27사두개파 사람 몇이 예수께 와서 물었다. 그들은 사람이 죽었다가 다시 살아나는 일은 없다고 말하는 사람들이었다. 28”선생님, 모세의 법에는 이렇게 정해져 있습니다. 어떤 사람의 형제가 자식 없이 아내만 남기고 죽으면, 그 사람이 형제의 아내와 결혼하여 죽은 형제를 위해 자식을 낳아 대를 이어 주어야 한다는 것입니다. 29그런데 일곱 형제가 있었습니다. 첫째가 결혼을 하였는데 자식 없이 죽었습니다. 30그래서 둘째가 그 형수와 결혼하였는데 둘째도 죽었습니다. 31그리고 셋째도 그 여자와 결혼하고 나서 죽었습니다. 이렇게 일곱 형제가 모두 그 여자와 결혼하였습니다. 일곱 형제가 다 죽고 자식은 없었습니다. 32그리고 마지막으로 그 여자도 죽었습니다. 33그런데 일곱 형제가 모두 그 여자와 결혼하였으니, 사람들이 다시 살아나게 될 때에 그 여자는 누구의 아내가 되겠습니까?” 34예수께서 사두개파*사람들에게 말씀하셨다. “이 세상 사람들은 장가도 들고 시집도 간다. 35그러나 하나님께서, 죽은 사람들 가운데서 다시 살리셔서 저 세상에 참여하게 할 만한 사람들로 여기시는 사람들은, 장가도 들지 않고 시집도 가지 않을 것이다. 36그리고 다시는 죽지도 않을 것이다. 이런 점에 있어서 그들은 천사들과 같기 때문이다. 그들은 죽었다가 다시 살아난 자녀이니 하나님의 자녀이다. 37그리고 모세도 불타는 덤불* 이야기에서, 죽은 사람들이 살아난다는 것을 보여 주었다. 그 이야기에서, 그는 주님을 ‘아브라함과 이삭과 야곱의 하나님’*이라고 부르고 있다. 38이 말은, 하나님께서는 죽은 사람들의 하나님이 아니라 오직 산 사람들의 하나님이시라는 뜻이다. 그러므로 하나님께서 보시기에는 모든 사람이 살아 있다.” 39율법 선생 몇이 말하였다. “선생님, 선생님의 대답이 정말 옳습니다.” 40그러자 누구도 감히 예수께 다시 묻지 못하였다.
그리스도는 다윗의 자손인가? (마 22:41-46; 막 12:35-37) 41예수께서 그들에게 말씀하셨다. “너희는 어찌하여 그리스도*를 다윗의 자손이라고 말하느냐? 42-43시편에서 다윗 자신이 이렇게 말하였다.
‘주(하나님)께서 내 주(그리스도)께 말씀하셨다.
“내가 네 원수들을 네 앞에 무릎 꿇게 할 때까지*,
너는 내 오른편에 앉아 있어라.”‘시 110:1 44여기서 다윗은 그리스도를 ‘주’라고 부르고 있다. 그런데 어떻게 그리스도가 다윗의 자손일 수 있겠느냐?”
율법 선생들에게 하신 경고 (마 23:1-36; 막 12:38-40; 요 11:37-54) 45모든 사람이 예수의 말씀을 듣고 있는 동안에 예수께서 제자들에게 말씀하셨다. 46”율법 선생들을 조심하여라. 그들은 긴 예복을 걸치고 다니기를 좋아하며, 시장에서 사람들에게 인사받기를 즐긴다. 그리고 회당*에서는 가장 높은 자리에 앉기를 좋아하고, 잔칫집에 가서도 귀한 손님 자리에 앉고 싶어한다. 47그러나 그들은 홀어미들을 속여서 그들의 집을 빼앗는다. 그러고는 남들 앞에서는 좋게 보이려고 기도를 길게 늘어놓는다. 이런 사람들이 더 큰 벌을 받을 것이다.” |
